Description The original composition SONATINA explores the transformation of one main idea into different genres through the usage of repetition and variation in order to create contrast. The beginning features a piano intro with front ensemble in accompaniment, followed by the first form of the main theme on solo trumpet which presents a classical idea. Furthermore, the secondary melody comes in a minor tonality, which then mixes with the modified main theme thus creates dissonance. There is then a transition section that features the drumline and the front ensemble in a consistent ostinato pattern to create a smooth key change, which leads into the bright triplet section that has a strong hint of swung feeling. It then transitions into a calm and relaxing ballad section, where it moves beyond the simple triad classical chord progression into sophisticated usage of 7th, 9th and 11th chords to create tension-release cycles. After a short euphonium solo, the climax comes with main theme hidden out-of-phase in the counter-melody line. The closer section comes after the ballad, which explores the feeling of a waltz while having call and answer structures of euphonium and flugelhorn solos. The solos still consists of the modified main theme melody. Finally, it builds up into a climax and finishes with a long hold.Note to Drum Major/ConductorSONATINA for Drum & Bugle Corps is designed to be played in a non-competitive drum and bugle corp. It is suitable for being played in both indoor and outdoor ensembles. Each solo does not have to be played by the same soloist, and every soloist will be equipped with wireless microphones to amplify the sound. The front ensemble will be equipped with microphones but set to be at a lower level than soloists. The drumline will be equipped with sound projector scoops under the drums.

This recognizable theme from the 1993 film adaptation of The Secret Garden appears in several different tracks from the score, but most notably in Leaving the Docks and Showing Dickon Garden.I arranged the piece specifically for my 26-string Fullsicle Harpsicle harp, and it should fit on other small harp models with a similar range. But you can, of course, also play it on larger harp models (either lever or pedal), as well.Because the original version was a piano solo, I had to re-organize some of the left-hand chord structures to get it to fit the range of my small harp. But, even with this adaptation, I was able to keep it in the original key (two sharps, so D Major), meaning that owners of Sharpsicle Harpsicle models, and some Roosebeck Pakistani harps, should be able to play this piece, as well as Fullsicle Harpsicle model owners.There are no lever changes or extended techniques, but, at full-speed, the piece can prove much more challenging than it looks at first glance. In particular, I recommend practicing that quick, repetitive Alberti bass in the left-hand with a loose, exagerated oscillation movement to prevent tightness or injury. Also be wary of starting out at a speed that you can't maintain throughout the entirety of the performance. Meteronomes are your friend.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. I wrote it on a 26-string lap harp, but the range (from the C below middle C to the C above middle C) would fit a harp as small as 22 strings. It is written in A minor, with no sharps, flats, or other lever changes. As such, this piece should be playable on pretty much any standard small or lap harp, regardless of whether it has levers.Suggested harp models include Harpsicle Harps, Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, Musicmakers Sonnet 29, Fireside Harps, Marini Made lap harp models, Roosebeck Pakistani harps, Heartland Harps Air Serenity, Harp-E harps, and so on.The piece was composed to cheer up a fellow harpist who is still at the beginning of their harp journey. It is meant to invoke a medieval castle, and, as such, could be the perfect piece to take to a renaissance fair, an outdoor wedding, a larp-ing event, or perhaps on vacation with you, if you plan on touring any old castles with your small/lap harp in tow and trying out the acoustics.The song is appropriate for beginner harpists. You may need to practice replacing in a few places to avoid buzzing. But the piece only ever requires you to place in one direction at a time and minimizes the amount of time both hands play simultaneously. You can play it slower than I do in the recording, if you choose, and it should still sound nice.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first few measures of score. I like to think it gives spooky filmscore / Wednesday Addams vibes, with a neoclassical air, while still remaining very accessible to a less-experienced musician with a small, simple, or budget instrument.It is in the key of A minor (i.e. no sharps or flats) with no lever changes. It should also already fit the range of most common small harp models, including Harpsicle harps (even if your model has no levers!), Roosebeck Pakistani harps (it goes no lower than the F below middle C), Harp-E harps (it goes no higher than your high E), Dusty Strings Ravenna, Musicmakers Sonnet Lap Harp, and others. It can also, obviously, be played on any and all larger harp models.Played at full-speed, some of the turn-arounds in the right-hand, as well as the octave jump in the middle, can prove tricky (as you can see from my own playing in the video!). His research focused on the Calabi Yau manifold. He left an astonishing musical legacy, unprecedently rich, diverse and impressive for his young age, including several large scale works as well as piano/orchestra miniatures, chamber music, pieces for piano solo etc. His unmistakingly personal compositional style could be easiest described as post-classical/post - tonal, and is instantly recognizable by its highly intrinsic, intellectually refined idiom of Scriabinesque, modernist/ avant guarde, New Complexity , later minimalist/repetitive music influences married with frequent appeals to historic techniques (contrapunctus, Gregorian plain chant, French harpsichordists, ethnic modality), a dense emotional drive and a profound sensitivity, all in the best of the resolutely post-Romantic tradition further enhanced with a super-human - as if machine induced - level of pianistic/structural difficulty, typically far beyond the one represented by the most demanding examples of, say, Godovsky's/Cziffra's transcriptions or Sorabji's works. The modularity conjecture has been extensively studied by many algebraic geometricians (Dieulefait, van Straten, Yuri, Schoen, Hulek, Verrill, Schuett, Meyer) however these studies have not resulted in producing a sufficiently representative number of examples of small level modular forms. In the best understood, rigid case of Calabi-Yau threefolds defined over the field of rational numbers, the modularity conjecture delivers from a more general Serre conjecture, as proven by Wirtemberger and Khare. Additionally, the modularity has been known a property only for certain particular Calabi-Yau varieties. For some non rigid Calabi-Yau threefolds (certain double octics) defined over rationals ( or more generally over particular number fields) the existence of modular or Hilbert modular forms has been hypothetically suggested. It can be played on a lap harp model as small as 26 strings, like the Harpsicle Fullsicle that I am playing in the video, or on a larger floor harp. Your model must have levers, though, as the melody changes keys repeatedly and so relies on several quick lever changes.The lowest note is the E below middle C and the highest is the G two octaves above middle C. As such, it should work on many common small or lap harp models, including Harpsicle harps, some Roosebeck Pakistani harps (depending on the range), Dusty Strings Ravenna 26, Marini Made lap harps, Heartland Harps Air Serenity, and many others. As noted above, it can also work on a larger floor harp with levers.The piece is light, quick, and repetative. By far the hardest element in my opinion is the succession of levers changes in the melody, though these come easier with practice. But less experienced harpists may also want to take into account that there are a few harmonics, played on both hands, in the middle section, and that the song will sound odd if these are omitted.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half page of score.
