I wrote this piece in February 2011 while experimentalizing with this unusual guitar tunning and the Bulgarian folklore from the region of the Rodopi mountain. The parts are: 01. 'The Whispering Lyre'; 02. 'The Forest King'; 03. 'Breadth' and each of them is inspired by a legendary Rodopean man (Orpheus, Captain Petko voyvoda* and Dafo Trendafilov** respectively).1. 'Breadth'*Captain Petko voyvoda (1844-1900): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petko_Vo... **Dafo Trendafilov (1919-2010) is one of the greatest Bulgarian folklore musicians; as a player, maker and teacher he dedicated his whole life to the instrument 'Kaba Gayda' (LOW or BIG bagpipe, which is only in the folklore region of the Rodopi mountain; not to be confuzed with the instrument 'Dzhura Gayda' which is HIGH or SMALL bagpipe and exists in all of the other folklore regions in Bulgaria)

The song has become a jazz standard in the U.S. where it is also known as A Day in the Life of a Fool, Carnival, Theme from Black Orpheus, or simply Black Orpheus. ManhÃ£ de Carnaval became one of the first Bossa Nova compositions to gain popularity outside Brazil; it has been recorded by a wide variety of artists worldwide.
