Brad received a scholarship to attend New England Conservatory (NEC) and received a Master’s degree in 2015 with academic honors. At NEC, he studied classical guitar under Eliot Fisk who was the last pupil of Andres Segovia. Brad has performed in countless masterclasses with instructors including; Sharon Isbin, Andrew York and Jason Vieaux, all Grammy award-winning guitarists. Brad was recently a featured performer on Live WRTI Performance Studio. Brad’s personal learning methods have enabled him to surpass his competition memorizing over 8 hours of the most difficult repertoire for the classical guitar. Brad was a semi-finalist in the International Texas Guitar Competition of 2008. In addition to his performing career, Brad has mentored hundreds of students of all ages, styles, and levels. Many of Brad's students have gone on to develop their own music careers and teaching studios. Brad's unique teaching style combines music, physics, philosophy, and humor, making him a well-rounded instructor for a variety of students.

This is a solo guitar arrangement of the Bach Chaconne, originally written for Solo Violin, and is the final movement of Violin Parita No. 2 in D minor BWV 1004. This arrangement was created after Brad Rau memorized the Andres Segovia and Manuel Barrueco arrangement and fingering of this piece. This arrangement has some of the best elements of each arrangement. It also includes ideas from studying with Eliot Fisk and Jason Vieaux and things he heard on John Williams recorded. Rau also came up with some of his own ideas and unique solutions. Each measure is carefully and thoughtfully fingered after comparing multiple sources for maximum musicality while still having a level of playability. This was performed on Brad Rau's third album 'In a Very Unusual Manner.'.

This piece was composed by Brad Rau for solo guitar. Rau has always been fascinated with dark, evil, sounding music, and this is his attempt to write some that are truly dark. This is also inspired when Rau has a kidney rupture that eventually causes him to have it removed. This was recorded on Brad's third album, In a Very Unusual Manner. The main theme is based on two minor chords a tritone apart. It then accelerates in tempo into an octatonic excitement with constant time signature changes that jar the listener. Then the main theme comes back, this time in Tremolo. It ends with the same solo theme it begins with. The piece is inspired by works of Erik Satie, Invocation and Dance by Joaquin Rodrigo, and the Usher Waltz by Nikita Koshkin.

D'une Manière Très Particulière was originally written for solo piano and has been arranged for solo guitar by Brad Rau. Fingering suggestions have been added to make it easier to play. The original piece was notated without measures; however, measures have been added to make learning easier. The pieces also do not have a key signature. However, it seems to begin in C minor. It has been transposed to A minor to make it easier to play. This is from a set of pieces Erik Satie wrote in 1897 called Pieces Froides or Cold Pieces. The first set of pieces is called Airs à faire fuir or Tunes to Make You Run Away. This movement is called D'une manière très particulière or In a Very Unusual Manner. In these sets of pieces, Satie writes in the enigmatic he used to compose the Gymnopedies and Gnossienne composed earlier. This little-known piece is rarely played on guitar but works really well.

This is a solo classical guitar 'mashup'/medley of Also Sprach Zarathustra (widely known from film 2001: A Space Odyssey) by Richard Strauss with the traditional Happy Birthday song. It begins with Also Sprach Zarathustra (the portion from 2001: A Space Odyssey)--then at the penultimate dominant chord, switches to Happy Birthday in a similar style, then at the Happy Birthday penultimate dominant chord, returns to the final three melody chords of Also Sprach Zarathustra. The playing level is intermediate classical guitar... even playable by a good early intermediate player. This arrangement is in standard notation with TAB. Arranged by Bradley Powell, who records as The Candlelight Guitarist...the entire arrangement can be seen and heard at the video link provided. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs. This work was originally composed for choir by Bernadette Debattista and was first performed at the Dawn Service, commemorating the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, in ANZAC Cove on 25 April 2015 by a combined choir from St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace and All Hallows’ School. This extended work sees the original theme recomposed for big band and choir. It may be performed in its entirety or the third movement may be omitted (or presented as spoken word only) if a choir is not available. The sax section requires the following doubles: Clarinet for Alto Saxes 1 and 2, and Tenor Sax 2; Flute for Tenor Sax 1; Bassoon for Bari Sax (although a Bari Sax part with no doubles has been included). There is also an optional part for Eb Sarrusophone! Trumpets require Flugelhorns and Harmon mutes.The recording features excerpts from each of the four movements and a brief description of each follows.1. Distant Shores With its jaunty, march-like feel, one can only imagine what it must have been like as these young men and women travelled to far off places, fired with the thrill of adventure, blind to the trauma and terrors of war. 2.Your Sons Are Our Sons The title for this movement is a paraphrase of a line in a speech given by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in which he speaks of the special bond between Australia and Turkey. This movement features solo space for Piano and Trumpet.3.Reflection This movement features a small vocal group, including some of the singers who were present at the 2015 performance in ANZAC Cove, and a reading of the poem that became the lyrics of the song. 4.Hymn The final movement presents the theme in close to its original form, although extensively re-harmonised. The screenplay by William Roberts is a remake – in an Old West–style – of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Japanese film Seven Samurai (itself initially released in the United States as The Magnificent Seven). The ensemble cast includes Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, James Coburn, and Horst Buchholz as a group of seven gunfighters, and Eli Wallach as their main antagonist. The seven title characters are hired to protect a small village in Mexico from a group of marauding bandits, led by Wallach. The film was released by United Artists on October 12, 1960. It was both a critical and commercial success, and has been appraised as one of the greatest films of the Western genre.[5] It spawned three sequels, a television series that aired from 1998 to 2000, and a 2016 film remake. Elmer Bernstein's film score was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Score, and is listed on the American Film Institute's list of the top 25 American film scores. In 2013, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.
