I have also included a TAB stave throughout with fingering based how Deacon performed the track live.The vast majority of the song is in second position with a focus on consistent fingerstyle playing. The accents outline the pulse the bass is playing against the drums. There is one super catchy dominant arpeggio fill to transition into the Chorus which moves up to the sixth position. In the last verse we see the introduction of some alternating octave patterns which is relatively easier for more experienced players whilst proving a great introduction to the style for beginners. Inspiration for the song came to Lennon from a television commercial for Kellogg's Corn Flakes.Another reference to contemporary television was the lyric It's time for tea and Meet the Wife, referring to the BBC sitcom. Lennon himself was critical of the track. It's a throwaway, a piece of garbage, I always thought, he once said. I always had the TV on very low in the background when I was writing, and it came over, and then I wrote the songThe song is played at 117 beats per minute, has an unusual rhythmic feel, and uses different time signatures. Beats are played in groups of 2, 3 and 4, and time signature changes frequently. Parts with 5/4 and 4/4 bars alternate, with 3/4 transitions.Most of the song uses simple time, where the beats are divided into two, but the middle eight sections use compound time, where the beats are divided into triplets.YouTube vid is my brass quartet arrangement.

Published by Marilyn Herman (A0.1034899). Abeba, in the title Swing Abeba, means flower - part of the name of the Ethiopian capital city where modern Ethiopian music took root. Abeba is also a common refrain in their vocal music. True to its title, this work is influenced by Ethiopian popular music, which in turn was strongly influenced by swing rhythm in American big band jazz transmitted from an army radio station in neighbouring Eritrea in the 1950s. Ethiopian music – essentially song-based – consists of pentatonic melodies which tend to be deeply embedded in copious melismata, progressing in an improvisatory manner, similarly to jazz. Accordingly, Swing Abeba begins with an Ethiopian, pentatonically melismatic treatment of an un-Ethiopian theme. (Whispers of Gondar…. – were words used to characterize this opening section, Gondar being a highland region in the North of Ethiopia.) The music then breaks into a jazz-swing scherzo. The call-response nature of this scherzo recalls this feature of Ethiopian music. The second section begins with a slow, heavily melismatic ad lib passage marked molto espressivo e pensivo, which leads into a second swing scherzo, the opening themes reappearing in a different guise in the closing section. Swing Abeba makes connections across time and space - between modern Ethiopian and Western musics, infused with influences from a different part of Africa, received via America through the jazz of the swing era.

My arrangement of this Fantasy, one of Mozart's most popular piano pieces, gives each instrument the opportunity to play a different character. Fantasia in D Minor opens with somber arpeggios in the bassoon, and then goes to a pleading melody that goes back and forth between the flute and the oboe. The tension builds up until the clarinet breaks out into a wild cadenza. The pleading melodies and wild cadenzas go back and forth a few more times building tension until the final segment, which resolves with a bright, cheerful song-like melody in the horn. Duration is approximately 6 minutes.I had a great time arranging this piece, and I hope you will enjoy playing it. It presents some unique challenges and expressive opportunities, and it is a real crowd-pleaser.

The first of its kind, and the first entry in the Accessible Accompaniments libraryâ??s collection of small-hand-optimized song literature publications, this is Richard Straussâ??s beloved â??Zueignung,â? from Acht Gedichte, op. 10 (1885), optimized (but not simplified) for the needs of collaborative pianists with small hands. â??Smallâ? is generally understood to be just an octave in span, with limited capacity to grab chord tones within a blocked octave aside from the occasional inner fifth.This edition was inspired by Booseyâ??s excellent small-hand edition of Frank Bridgeâ??s â??Love Went A-Ridingâ? (erroneously labeled â??simplifiedâ? on the front matter), which thins the large chords that would be problematic or impossible for a barely-an-8ve-reach collaborative pianist to play without adding musically inappropriate rolls or breaks, but also preserves the musical content and grammatically accurate voice-leading. Given that Straussâ??s op. 10 collection is much more widespread on todayâ??s concert programs than the Bridge, and given that average conservatory pianist heights and hand sizes have dropped significantly in the 20th and 21st centuries, the need for a similar adaptation in at least some of the op. 10 songs is obvious. Additionally, Straussâ??s songs are often so orchestral in spiritâ??much more so than the Bridgeâ??that the instinct to treat them as orchestral reductions to be adapted by each individual player should be as self-evident and considered as musically appropriate as it would be for any of Straussâ??s beloved horn concerti. Performers should feel free to insert their own adaptations, additions, and omissions to this score as needed.The primary source material for this edition is Henleâ??s edition of the Acht Gedichte. However, any proprietary material that is not public domain (like their fingerings, front matter, and critical notes) is left out of this edition, leaving only what is public domain and edited by Ms. DiPaolo. Unreasonably large chords and arpeggio figures that would require being reachable by a larger hand have been condensed into figures more appropriate for the just-an-octave hand without sacrificing technique and excitement. This edition makes minor improvements to the engraving, like removing syllabic beaming in the voice and adding octave lines when appropriate. It falls in the easy category and should be able to be accomplished by players as young as first, maybe second year. It goes through a few iterations of the melody and passes it around many times from each instrument to the next. You can choose to swing all or part of it in order to sound more like the original. I didn't choose to notate that to make it more accessible to younger players. It also opened her album of the same name. But the song version lost much of the drive of the original.As this quartet arrangement is for playing, not singing, it makes sense to put all the drive back in!If you visit YouTube you will find some recordings of the original theme and these should point you in the right direction to make this piece blossom into a big wall of sound...It's for an intermediate quartet or large ensemble. Guitar 4 is tuned 6=D and is the most straightforward line. There's a version of Guitar 4 in bass clef for contra or electric bass, and here normal tuning is used.
