Life's Railway to Heaven (Life is Like a Mountain Railroad) was composed in 1890 and continues in popularity with those who love gospel music. It has been recorded through the years by artists like Boxcar Willie, the Carter Family, Bill Monroe, the Chuck Wagon Gang, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Brad Paisley. Tillman's tune here is in 3/4 time, but a 4/4 version became popular when Patsy Cline recorded it in 1959. Willie Nelson later dubbed his voice into that version as a duet. In 2010, Western Writers of America chose this hymn as one of the Top 100 Western Songs of all time. This arrangement by McIntire is an Intermediate Piano Solo in the key of G featured in the Gospel Piano Classics series. The lyrics detail the joys of being in your home community during the holidays and give examples of how some people will travel long distances to be with their loved ones. The music was composed by Robert Allen, with the lyrics written by Al Stillman. The best-known recordings of Home for the Holidays were made by Perry Como, who recorded the song twice, both times accompanied by Mitchell Ayres' Orchestra and the Ray Charles Singers. Perhaps the most iconic version of the song, other than the original Perry Como version, is the Carpenters’ recording on their 1984 LP release, An Old Fashioned Christmas.

The Great Escape (1963) is one of the great American epic war adventure films starring some of the greatest actors of the age like Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, among many others. The soundtrack was composed by Elmer Bernstein who had enjoyed great acclaim for his music for the 1960 epic The Magnificent 7 (also starrring Steve McQueen). The Great Escape March theme is regarded as one of the best loved war film themes harnessing both a British and an American patriotic flavour in its themes. Its bitter sweet jauntiness successfully catches the mood of the film, the optimism and indominatable spirit of the prisoners always hell bent on trying to escape, and the German march theme also makes a brief appearance to reflect all the voices in the narrative of the story. Other film composers have used a similar approach using a jaunty march theme like Bernstein does - notably The bridge over the river Kwai and A bridge too far - while other composers have tried (arguably) less successfully to encapsulate appropriate pathos alongside that optimism in the 'optimistic' themes.This arrangement is a great bite sized orchestral excerpt appropriate for any concert of film music, or military war/historic themes. God: My Helper, Comforter, Companion, Provider, Protector is a 71 measure arrangement for 4-5 octave handbell choir, and OPTIONAL 3 octaves of handchimes. It is a medley of Christian hymns that deal with some of the attributes of God, as they relate to His followers. Specifically, it includes Abide with Me, God Will Take Care of You, Day by Day and Just When I Need Him Most. It is probably a level 3+ arrangement. The God Will Take Care of You section starts with a duet in the handchimes, with the melody line switching from treble clef to bass clef, in the verse. Of course, handbells can be used instead of handchimes, if desired. In the chorus, martellato is used in the bass clef, while there is a descant going on in the high treble clef, with the melody sandwiched in between. In the last section (Just When I Need Him Most) interesting chords, bass runs and melody line doubling, with chords filled in between the doubled melody notes, build to an ending culminating in a repeat of the last musical phrase, at a slower, more majestic tempo. The first 3 selections are more laid-back; the last is presented in a more energetic fashion.
