When a student meets successful attempt after successful attempt while gradually increasing difficulty, they are motivated to learn and are less likely to reinforce unwanted outcomes.Context- Practicing anything without understanding where it fits in the bigger picture is asking for failure. Accompanying parts to the etudes have been written to assist the learner through tempo consistency, performing other instrumental parts, and expanding beyond the provided excerpt.Ensemble- Performing with others improves intonation and listening, constructive teamwork, and can be a lot of fun. Four bass parts have been written for the etude in a layered accompaniment to keep the size of the ensemble flexible. Within the Standard Packet, part 1 is the etude itself, taking sections of the excerpts and practicing them in different ways to improve the original excerpt. Part 2 provides the most important accompanying music, allowing the etude to be practiced and performed with just two players. This is especially useful in private lessons, as the teacher can accompany the student as they wish. Within the Expanded Ensemble Packet, parts 3 and 4 expand on the accompaniment. While they are not needed for performance, they do fill spaces and provide more to the ensemble musically to create a trio or quartet. Other resources are provided within the excerpt etudes as well. A score is included in the Expanded Ensemble Packet with all four parts to allow easy comparison and study of each etude. The original excerpts are included in the Standard Packet as well, allowing the student to actively see where each rehearsal letter practice section derives from. An analysis of each rehearsal letter is offered defining the problem in question, as well as a practice solution and occasional extra tips. Finally, a difficulty rating sheet is provided to approximate the difficulty of each part.

When a student meets successful attempt after successful attempt while gradually increasing difficulty, they are motivated to learn and are less likely to reinforce unwanted outcomes.Context- Practicing anything without understanding where it fits in the bigger picture is asking for failure. Accompanying parts to the etudes have been written to assist the learner through tempo consistency, performing other instrumental parts, and expanding beyond the provided excerpt.Ensemble- Performing with others improves intonation and listening, constructive teamwork, and can be a lot of fun. Four bass parts have been written for the etude in a layered accompaniment to keep the size of the ensemble flexible. Within the Standard Packet, part 1 is the etude itself, taking sections of the excerpts and practicing them in different ways to improve the original excerpt. Part 2 provides the most important accompanying music, allowing the etude to be practiced and performed with just two players. This is especially useful in private lessons, as the teacher can accompany the student as they wish. Within the Expanded Ensemble Packet, parts 3 and 4 expand on the accompaniment. While they are not needed for performance, they do fill spaces and provide more to the ensemble musically to create a trio or quartet. Other resources are provided within the excerpt etudes as well. A score is included in the Expanded Ensemble Packet with all four parts to allow easy comparison and study of each etude. The original excerpts are included in the Standard Packet as well, allowing the student to actively see where each rehearsal letter practice section derives from. An analysis of each rehearsal letter is offered defining the problem in question, as well as a practice solution and occasional extra tips. Finally, a difficulty rating sheet is provided to approximate the difficulty of each part.

Score and part. 31 pages. Ondine Press #5377025. Published by Ondine Press (A0.866120). This is a piano reduction to Yoon Jae Lee’s arrangement, Variations on “Non più mesta†for flute and orchestra. The full score and set of parts are available separately. Rossini's aria from La Cenerentola Non più mesta has been a popular theme since it was first composed and is one of his most recognized tunes. Many paraphrases and variations were written on it in the 19th century for various instruments including one for violin and orchestra by Paganini. One set of variations for flute and piano is attributed to a young Chopin, who is said to have composed it for his father. For this arrangement, the variations have been expanded with an introduction and coda from the opera. A newly written orchestral accompaniment in the style of Chopin and Rossini was made along with interludes between the variations to allow the soloist to rest. The result is a new 10 minute showpiece for flute and orchestra in the same vein as Chopin's Variations on La ci da rem la mano and Rossini's variations for clarinet and orchestra. The flute part from the variations has not been altered so it is hoped that this new compilation will be a welcome addition to the solo flute repertoire. Its 2 melodies span 36 years. The first tune came to me when I was 8 years old and on holiday in the Co.Donegal town of Buncrana, west Ireland. Back then there was a small shop on Buncrana’s high street that sold everything from milk to DIY tools. And the name of the shop was “John Thinn And Sonâ€. I thought this was an awesome name and I remember the shop owner, the real Mr. Thinn, being a lovely kindly, rather shy and gentle man. And this inspired my childhood mind’s character of Mr.Thinn the magic-toy maker.  The 2nd theme arrived in September 2011 as soon as I had decided that Mr.Thinn’s first tune had waited long enough and now needed to find a permanent home. Once again writing for the wonderful Banda di musica has given me a unique chance to release an old and very special melody that has lain neglected and home-less for over 3 decades. The resulting piece is light hearted, fun and in a simple ABA form.There are 2 arrangements;No. 1 – School Arrangement ; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No. 2 – Standard Arrangement ; Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere are a few violin and cello solos throughout which are to be played by the section leaders. These are of moderate difficulty.
