Here it is!This song is based on the poem Christmas Wishes written by contemporary author and poet Mary White Pustrom. Mary wrote many poems with the theme of Christmas, including what she thought people should wish for at Christmas. While so many adults wish for a new car, a sparkling diamond ring, or celebrating with a nice vacation in the tropics, she believes that Christmas wishes should be taken a step further by considering the wishes and needs of others more so than our own. In her poem Christmas Wishes, her desire for reaching out to others and granting them their wishes for the simple things in life take on great meaning: Christmas Wishes by Mary White Pustrom Now that Christmas is drawing near I cannot help but seeAll the poor and needy people who are reaching out to me. It seems that everywhere I look there is a need to fill; I feel so inadequate when their wishes I can't fill. Among the lights and decorations, there is hunger and despair, Faces filled with sadness while bright carols fill the air; Little children who are cold and hungry wait for Santa Claus, Wishing that he would bring them food, for that's a worthy cause. Others laughing, smiling, singing - so completely unaware Of all the pain and suffering that's around them everywhere; They wish for generosity in our thoughts, time, and deeds, And wish that here at Christmas time, someone could fill their needs. My wish is that we reach out to our sisters and our brothers, Who depend on us for kindness from one to another; Fill our hearts with Christmas cheer, and teach us how to share, So that Christmas wishes will be fulfilled all throughout the year. It sounds like she might have the right idea. At this time of year, it is so easy to get caught up in buying and receiving presents, the lights, and the Christmas tree, without considering the simple needs of others. Maybe this year, these simple wishes will come true for some: · Sick little children to be healed · Homeless people and children to find a family · For the less fortunate to have enough food, clothing, shelter, and shoes on their feet · That no one spends Christmas lonely and alone, and spent the way it should be, with loving family and friends. A slow march I entitled The Royal Hussar, is an original ceremonial slow march of mine, suitable for indoor or outdoor performance. Slow March: This is a ceremonial pace, used for funeral marches and when a unit’s colours are marched out in front of the troops. The feet are kept parallel to the ground and the arms are never used. In the United States Marine Corps, arms swing as the distance they normally would in quicktime, but at the same pace as marching. U.S. Marine Color Guards do not swing their arms. Slow March is typically used in the Marine Corps for funeral details and ceremonies such as the Marine Corps Ball (when the cake is escorted out). In Spain, Latin America, and the Philippines this is done during religious processions whenever a military band joins it. This march style is the official parade march in the armed forces of Bolivia and Ecuador and the military academies and schools of Venezuela, done with the goose step during parades and ceremonies. The standard pace is 60 paces per minute. Famous slow marches include:Preobrajensky Regimental Slow March Presented to the Royal Marines by Admiral of the Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 10th June 1964 and first performed as the Regimental Slow March of the Royal Marines on Horse Guards Parade that night. The march was composed by the Russian composer Donajowsky for the Russian Tzar’s Preobrajensky Guard. The Royal Hussars Slow March ’Coburg’, a tune composed by Haydn and arranged by Grant-James in the late 19th Century, is without doubt one of the most well-known and famous Slow Marches to be written. ’The Eagle’, which itself is a combination of the 14th and 20th Hussars slow marches is also a very strong march, but not widely known outside 14th/20th King’s Hussars’ circles. The Garb of Old Gaul (sometimes given as Auld Gaul) is an 18th-century patriotic Scottish march and song about Highland soldiers during the Seven Years War. The music was written by General John Reid, who was a senior officer of the 42nd Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) during the Seven Years War. The words have traditionally been attributed to Sir Harry Erskine (1710 -1765). Robert Burns described it as This excellent loyal Scottish song and states that it first appeared in print in Herd’s Collection of 1769. Alternative titles include The Highland Character and The Highland or 42nd Regiment’s March. The tune was originally a quick march but was later rearranged as a slow march. Other famous slow marches of the British Army include Golden Spurs & Scipio. Put away Scipio, Coburg & Garb of Old gaul, time for a newcomer on the block! Our story confronts this issue in a fun-filled way, without shying away from the issue at hand. Perhaps, this show is needed now more than ever! In contrast to Poe’s To Helen, which treats a similar subject of a chance meeting of a stranger that the poet loves, Whitman does not idealize his subject but rather pointedly and brutally describes how he sees this person and what feelings (both negative and positive) this contemplation provokes in the poet’s mind In order to reflect this musically, there is an alternation between more introspective and brooding sections which are then followed by more ecstatic outbursts. The piece ends with the poet watching the stranger leave, expressing what the composer felt to be acceptance and release.As in any chamber music with voice, it is important that the two instruments allow the voice to predominate, regardless of the dynamics marked in their parts. The saxophonist should try as much as possible to match colour with the voice,in order to allow the contrapuntal exchanges between the voice and the saxophone to blend evenly. Set in two movements, the music of Oneness in This World represents two things necessary for humanity to move together: Unity and Joy.In the first movement, the music evolves from tension and musical discord to unity and harmony. While much of the drama is heard through the interaction of the clarinet and cello, the piano provides a key factor throughout the second part of the first movement through foundational chaconne variations. As the harmonic progression repeats, the clarinet and cello become more aligned in their music yet maintaining a sense of individuality. Without unity and informed agreement, a society cannot truly benefit its people. Unity is strongest within diversity, contributing to growth, and moving towards a common goal to benefit all.In the second movement, all three musicians share equally in the production of the state of joy. The varied tone colors of the instruments, shifting meters, and dancing music all provide energy and emotions suggesting joy. Joy is a certainty of the goodness of life, in spite of sorrows or pain or even tragedy. Joy gives us wings to transcend our situation, opens us to our potential, and helps us become who we are to be. Key: Eb minor.Horace Silver had not seen the insides of a recording studio for 750 days before laying down Silver 'n Brass. His previous record, In Pursuit of the 27th Man, was unusual in its instrumentation (vibes) and for including a number of non-Silver tunes. (But the cover of Liberated Brother, from that record, did go on to become the backbone of his late 70s live shows.) So, as a prolific composer, Horace had a large backlog of tunes at his disposal as he entered the studio in January, 1975 and the 6 cuts on Silver 'n Brass are among his best. Horace broke the sessions into two: a straight-ahead post-bop session with Ron Carter (whose chubby bass spews artifacts all over the place, in his best late-70s style) and Al Foster on drums and another, more commercial session featuring Bob Cranshaw and Bernard Purdie. Wade Marcus later added horn overdubs employing an absolute who's-who of LA session players. (Word quickly got out among the cognoscenti, and Silver 'n Brass became hugely popular among fellow musicians, much to Horace's delight.) Highlights of the disc include: the composer's propulsive piano solo on Dameron's Dance, young Bob Berg's paint-peeling tenor solos (especially riveting on Kissin' Cousins) and the driving flat 9th chords of Adjustment. The tune Barbara, a gorgeous waltz dedicated to Horace's then-wife, has become a latter-day standard of sorts (Amazon's MP3 store lists a whole bunch of covers). The full orchestra comes roaring back to represent Shamash, the Lion of Justice. Bringing wrongdoers their just due, he could also be merciful, curing the faithful sick who plead for his mercy. The second episode is gently ushered in by the Basset horn. Featured here is Ninhursag, the mild, nurturing Mother Goddess. It was said that any couple who desired to be fertile would do well to propitiate themselves to herâ?¦ An explosive, percussive jolt fanfares in Inanna, wild, untamed Goddess of Primal Passions! Whether in war or in lust, Inanna stood for all things raw-and ultimately destructive! The low, rumbling voice of the contralto clarinet brings us Anu, Father of the Gods. Ancient and wise, Anu is the manifestation of the heavenly vault. Nanna, the moon god riding on the back of a bull, illuminated the night sky. Sparkling and light colors of the orchestra depict his deft, spry nocturnal motions. The sinuous lines of the Bb clarinet illustrate Enlil, fickle God of Wind and Weather. It is said that it was he who created humans, but lost interest in them and flooded the whole earth. The whole clarinet quartet reprises the fate theme one last time, ending in an exultant flurry, reflecting both the fear and ecstasy that these seven gods inspired in their mortal charges. Published by Musica Nova USA (A0.917412). The Four Seasons in the Basque Country is a 4 movement symphony for concert band. It is the Third Prize Winner of the 2020 American Prize in Composition - Concert Band. Grade 5, duration 27 minutes. The piece depicts four different places in the Basque country that the composer feels best show the changes of season. The first movement is Winter in the Costa Norte (Galerna). Galerna is on the northerncoast and is subject to harsh storms in the winter. As the piece starts off with a light-hearted dance in thepiccolo, a storm is approaching from afar. At first the storm seems to be in the distance but as it comes closer it overtakes the festivities in a bluster. For a short time two conductors are needed as the concertband is split into two groups – one showing the light-hearted dance led by the piccolo, the other thecacophony of the storm led by the percussion. The storm overtakes everything as it ends the movement with a flourish.The second movement Spring in Rioja Alavesa is a calming contrast to the first movement like the freshness of a spring day. The sun rises and shines beams of light onto the acres of grape vines. After a timea short rain comes to refresh and clean the plants.The third movement Autumn at the Guggenheim Museum is in a traditional 3rd movement form of a symphony, minuet and trio, but the harmonies sometimes use bitonality, having the melody in one key while the accompaniment is in another to suggest surrealism. The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbaois one of the world’s most famous museums, not only for the surreal art inside, but also because of the architecture of the building itself.The fourth movement Summer in Bilbao is based on a dance melody composed in the Ezpata- dantza Basque style. It employs a rhythmic element with alternating 6/8 and 3â„4 meters where the eighth notes are basically equal, but in the dance the 3â„4 meter is actually a little bit longer. This type of subtlemanipulation of rhythm is used similarly in the Viennese Waltz, when the 3rd beat would be stretched outto accommodate the dancers. The Ezpata-dantza dance continues until the Altza Gastiak, the officialsong of the Bilbao Athletic Club, the local soccer team of Bilbao, is heard. After this the Ezpata-dantzamelody is transformed from a happy dance to a triumphant melody and rousing finale.In The Four Seasons in the Basque Country all of the themes are original except for the short excerpt ofAltza Gastiakin the 4th movement. Some themes are composed in the style of Basque folk dances.Gregory Fritze is a prize-winning composer and Fulbright Scholar, as well as an active performer. He recently retired from Berklee College of Music where he was Professor and Chair of Composition, serving on the faculty from 1979 to 2016. He has written over one hundred compositions for orchestra, band, chamber ensembles and soloists. He has won over sixty composition awards both nationally and internationally. His compositions include works published by several publishers in the United States, South America and Europe that have been performed extensively throughout the world. Many of his compositions are available on ITunes, Youtube and Soundcloud.He has been a frequent traveler to Spain since 1993 and has promoted compositions by Spanishcomposers around the world. He is the only composer who has been commissioned six times by Spanishbands for Certamen competitions, with each band winning first prize.His compositions are recorded on Albany Records, MSR Classics, Crystal Records, Mark Recordsand others. He has been a guest lecturer, conductor and performer at many colleges, universities and music festivals in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America and Europe. He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1954 and has Composition degrees from the Boston Conservatory and Indiana University.He now resides in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida

The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

Programme Notes: This composition was written to be considered for pairing alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony #3, the Eroica, but can stand on its own virtues as an intense and slow meditation on heroism. The music is like a boiling pot on the stove that’s just began to overflow its bubbles. The first part of the title, kommos, is a Classical Greek term from Attic dramaturgy, literally meaning striking but specifically referring to beating oneself up during lamentation--ripping at the hair, gouging out the eyes--like Oedipus--slapping the forehead, and other acts amid moments of extreme emotional turmoil. For example, from Aeschylus's play Agamemnon, a character bewails: Apollo, Apollo! God of the Ways, my destroyer! For you have destroyed me-and utterly [...]What is this fresh woe [...]what monstrous, monstrous horror, beyond love's enduring, beyond all remedy? And help stands far away! We can easily imagine physical accompaniment to the script; rather than bottling up the pain, the hero lets it all explosively come out.  The second part of the title, When the world moved on, is an epigraph taken from American author Stephen King’s The Dark Tower epic. The primary setting of the novel, a world similar in many ways to our own, is experiencing a dark age where the glorious past is all but a distant memory and all good things are referred to wistfully as occurring, When the world moved on. Yet, the main protagonist, Roland, the last gunslinger, emphasizes that it is not just a figure of speech, but the literal distances between destinations have increased, the positions of the stars have changed, as well as the occurrence of other unnatural phenomena. The world has become a gulf of isolation from all corners. Taken together, this piece is a lamentation for when the world moved on. Truly completed on Yom Kippur during the Covid-19 Pandemic, being unable to fast or go to synagogue, this is my atonement.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.
