Based on the ancient Latin text by Prudentius Aurelius, made famous by the evocative translations of Neale and Davis, this new setting of Corde Natus (Of the Father's Love Begotten) presents a beautiful choral reflection on love, creation and worship. Sometimes associated with Advent or Christmas, the lyrics are typically associated with the Gregorian chant: Divinum Mysterium - a style of singing that is difficult for many congregations, even when updated to modern notation in hymnals. This anthem re-presents the timeless lyrics with steady meter, regular phrases full of step-wise melodic motion, with plenty of unison and light choral harmony. It functions both as a piece suitable for amateur choirs, as well as having enough challenges to engage a more advanced choir. Mr. Vandall's compositions were a gift to them, and also to us!My compositions for Elementary and Intermediate piano students build on the ideas of composers including Robert Vandall, Catherine Rollin, Martha Mier, Dennis Alexander, E. L. Lancaster, and others. My unique presentation continues the spirit of Robert Vandall in an important way: not only are the sounds new for today's students, the means of communcation has also been updated to meet the needs of today's students. The tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet dates from before Shakespeare's 1597 dramatic play. Since then, the story has been adapted for opera, musicals, and film. In the late 1870's Tchaikovsky toyed with the idea of an opera. He completed a Fantasy Overture, and later on, sketched the Duet between the two lovers. A tragedy in itself, Tchaikovsky never finished his opera. Almost 100 years later, Franco Zeffirelli directed a film version where Giovanni Rota Rinaldi (Nino Rota) created the musical score in 1968. The most notable segment is the Love Theme sung by the troubadour during the masked ball where Romeo and Juliet first meet.This setting is based on the timeless innocence of Rinaldi's writing of the Love Theme and makes reference to the passionate duet of Tchaikovksy, with Juliet played by the Tenor Horn and Romeo by the Euphonium. In the spirit of PRIDE month, and updating the setting to the context of now, this is a love song about a shepherd and his lover.
