Destined for Adventure brings to mind concepts that demand some level of gravitas and bombast, and the full-bodied sound of a (non-traditional) string quintet provides this. Shifting tonal centers allude to the different stages of a heroic journey and the unexpectedness of each. The minor ending reminds the audience that the adventure is destined, not achieved; someone still has to live out the adventure in order to bring about a triumphal ending. Lasting approximately five minutes (~5 min.), Destined for Adventure remains melodic and tonal despite its brief and frequent visits to other keys. While designed for five players, the parts can be doubled for an orchestra's worth of string players to enjoy. It is appropriate for a wide variety of contexts, including recitals.

Chaque pièce, vendue à l’unité, a fait l’objet d’un travail éditorial attentif, tant sur le plan de l’établissement du texte musical que de sa gravure, afin de garantir aux musiciens les conditions indispensables aux plaisirs tirés du commerce fréquent de ces œuvres.<br><br>Les partitions sont proposées sous la forme d’ouvrages traditionnels (feuillets papier), et disponibles également par téléchargement.<br><br><br><br>Issu d'un ensemble de six menuets pour orchestre écrit dans les années 1795 par le compositeur, Menuet en sol majeur n°2 WoO 10 se compose, tout comme les cinq autres menuets, de 32 mesures ayant chacun une battue à trois temps. Le manuscrit original des six menuets est perdu et il n'existe actuellement que des esquisses de la version pour orchestre. La transcription pour piano des menuets a sans doute été faite par Beethoven lui-même et cette version pour piano à deux mains est publiée à Vienne en mars 1796 par Arteria. Elle portait comme titre : « VI Menuetten / Für das clavier / von Herrn / Ludwig van Beethoven / 2ten Theil » Dans ce menuet, Beethoven adopte une forme classique en trois parties, celle du « menuet avec trio ». Le rythme pointé utilisé dans ce menuet est une figure temporelle de prédilection du compositeur. Il représente le rythme caractéristique de cette danse : à l'origine, le menuet est une danse française campagnarde qui a été par la suite adopté à la cour du roi Louis IV. Réjouissance et allégresse résonnent dans le sautillement de cette pièce miniature. Sur un ton par moments énergiques par d’autres langoureux, son balancement évoque à demi mot la personnalité stylistique du personnage et permet au pianiste de se divertir sur un morceau de Beethoven qui se destine à l'expression corporelle. The setting for the song in the show is a favorite night spot in which people often have clandestine meetings and the dark interior allows for that, so the song is sung sotto voce for the most part, more whispered, as if everything's a secret. This arrangement maintains that mood with only a few vigorous accents. It is playful and witty and somewhat mischievous. It makes for a good study piece for more advanced intermediate students because of the staccatos all over the keyboard with only isolated pairs of notes played legato for accentuated phrasing. The middle section will help to develop dexterity in rapid finger work. And it's just plain fun to do.

Some of the text may date back as far as the 18th century. Although it has been used in communion since at least the Civil War, that may not have been its original intent.I have heard lectures given by researchers who claim that many African-American spirituals contain coded messages, intended for slaves, about secret meetings, clandestine worship services, and escape plans. Some songs are even said to contain maps.The texts are innocuous on the surface, so as to not alert the slave owners. Some of the double meanings seem obvious in retrospect:When Israel was in Egypt land,Let My people go.Oppressed so hard they could not stand,Let My people go.And:Steal away, steal away, steal away to Jesus!Steal away, steal away home. I ain’t got long to stay here.In Let Us Break Bread Together, this curious line may have a double meaning:When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising sunCommunion needn’t take place at daybreak, nor while facing east. The lyrics could be a pointer to a specific time and place for a prohibited meeting.Whatever its original meaning, this and many other African-American spirituals are now an important part of many worship traditions.

This book has posed some issues as it is such complex music it is almost impossible to cut it down to 5 parts while maintaining its integrity. As a result, some songs - like this one - will be in 6 or more parts.A quest'olmo is described as a sei voci concertato, which basically means it is an operatic chorus, The title translates as In this elm, in these shadows and describes a clandestine meeting between two lovers.The seventh book is quite a change from the earlier ones. Monteverdi seems to be concentrating on developing solos and duets, trios and small accompanied ensembles. The accompaniments are often written out with more than just long note chords. The intricate instrumental parts are more than just filling in the harmony (hence the difficulty in paring them down.)Once again, these songs are exquisitely crafted and travel well onto brass.

English • German.Having grown up in a family of organ-builders and organists, the path of Charles-Marie Widor as an organist was predestined. In 1870 he moved from Lyon, the town of his birth, to Paris and became titular organist at Saint-Sulpice. In 1890 Widor succeeded César Franck as professor of organ studies at the Paris Conservatoire, where six years later he was appointed professor of composition, too. Alongside orchestral works, solo concertos, vocal pieces and chamber music, Widor’s most important musical achievement was his contribution to the genre of the organ symphony. His Suite op. 34 for flute and piano, structured around a Romance (1881) and composed for Paul Taffanel, may be considered as marking the beginning of the modern French flute school: here for the first time a composition makes full use of the bright tone of the Böhm flute, as introduced to the music world by Taffanel and his pupils. This Sérénade op. 65 is the arrangement of a duo for harmonium and organ. No further information about the arranger has been found. Plate no. 27148 / published in 1903.

This work was written in the first months of 1942 while Tailleferre was living in Grasse, in the socolled« Free Zone » of occupied France during the Second World War and was completed just asTailleferre was forced to flee France with her daughter. As the wife of Jean Lageat, who had been thesecretary of the French socialist Léon Blum during the « Front Populaire » period just before the Warand who was at that time in the US working against the Vichy Government, and as someone who wasnot unvocal about her political views, this could not have been a comfortable situation. Tailleferre left arecord of what she experienced during this period in an article written for the American music journal «Modern Music » which she wrote shortly after arriving in America in the Spring of 1942 :« Notwithstanding their staunch spirit of resistence, the people under German rule today areincreasingly bowed down under their burdens. By achieving the physical decline of the French, theNazis hope that spiritual collapse will ensue. However, after two years of quasi-famine, France remainspround and great, although the necessity of liberation grows daily more urgent.....For an artist to workunder these conditions is almost impossible. The mere effort of subsisting wastes time and absorbsenergy ; The means to work are also lacking.....Musical composition is made practically impossiblethrough lack of music paper. For more than a year, I sought in vain to find paper in Lyon, Marseillesand Nice on which to copy an orchestral score...Two years of experience under German rule havetaught me that all expressions of pride, dignity, spirit , aspiration of the human will can be made onlyclaudestinely. It is a historical truth that the human mind makes its greatest progress under freedom ».Under such circumstances, it is a miracle that this work exists at all. The three movement work wasdedicated to the famous Marguerite Long, for whom Tailleferre had already written several short worksfor piano solo, and François Lang, a pianist who was closely linked with the Group des Six and whohad performed in the première of the 1934 Concerto Grosso for Two Pianos, 8 Solo Voices, SaxophoneQuartet and Orchestra and for whom Tailleferre wrote two cadenzas for concerti by Mozart and Haydn.The work opens with sunny, optimistism in a mood similar to the opening movement of the ConcertoGrosso, but quickly the mood changes to more dramatic themes. The second movement seems tosubjectively express a rupture with the past and a tragic melancholy. The final third movement isextremely dramatic and almost frightening with it’s force.When Tailleferre left France in the Spring of 1942, having been warned by a neighbor that she wasgoing to be arrested if she didn’t leave immediately, she left the score in a two-piano version, probablydue to the fact that there was no music paper to be had to copy the score. When she returned to Francein 1946, she learned that François Lang had been deported to Auschwitz where he died. Musical life inFrance had been completely changed by the War years. Tailleferre put the work aside and forgot aboutit, perhaps wanting to forget the hardships that she had lived through and the loss of many of her friendsassociated with these years.Tailleferre's version for two pianos is published by Musik Fabrik and the work may be performed inthat version. It is clear however, that the work was intended to be orchestrated and the editors hope thatthe present orchestration will allow the work to finally be presented as Tailleferre conceived duringsome of the darkest years of the Twentieth century.

Lexicon II is the second composition in a series that defines words through music. The first movement, Ballyhoo, means clamor or outcry. This is achieved musically through a fast tempo, wide intervals, asymetric meter, imitative sixteenth note patterns, and mild dissonance. The second movement, Clandestine, uses pyramids to disguise the melodic line and asymetrical meter to disguise the beat in order to represent the definition of characterized by, done in, or executed with secrecy or concealment, especially for purposes of subversion or deception. The brass instruments are muted throughout this movement. In order to represent Eerie, the word for the third movement, a slow tempo and sparse instrumentation are used along with dissonance, extreme dynamics, trills and glissandi. Eerie means uncanny, so as to inspire superstitious fear. The fourth movement, Amok, is filled with dissonance, counterpoint, and chromaticism in order to represent its definition; to behave uncontrollably and disruptively. Sections of order seem to break down into sections of chaos and the movement ends on an unsettled chord.
