He loves music and he says this is such a nice way to pray. This can be an upbeat gathering song, or it can be slowed down for offertory or just a prayer song. This version is for a flute trio and piano. On this version, you can play it in different ways. As written, I have a trio with refrain and 3 verses. I then have a final refrain that has an echo part and a little different ending. You could do this as a quartet by a third person playing on the echo part earlier in the refrain. I will leave that open for you to decide how you want to do it. The Rainers were already singing it around Christmas, 1819, and once performed it for an audience that included Franz I of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring is a tone poem composed in 1912 by Frederick Delius; it was first performed in Leipzig on 23 October 1913. It is the first of Two Pieces for Small Orchestra, the second piece being Summer Night on the River, although these have for many years existed separately on recordings and in the concert hall.The piece opens with a slow three-bar sequence; its first theme is an exchange of cuckoo calls.The second theme is taken from a Norwegian folk song, In Ola Valley, which was brought to his attention by the Australian composer and folk-song arranger Percy Grainger. (The theme was also arranged by Edvard Grieg in his 19 Norwegian Folksongs, Op. 66.)The clarinet returns with the cuckoo calls before the piece ends in pastoral fashion.Arranged symphonic wind and contra bass/tuba.

Commissioned by Mitch Sturman, director of the Wilson Junior High School Band in El Centro, California in 2014 for his 8th Annual Concert of Premieres, the work features a solo trumpet in a quiet piece with both a 40's big band feel and a reminiscence of the Western cowboy influence felt in the Imperial Valley of California. The work was premiered by 7th grade trumpeter Precious Esquer and the Wilson Jr. H. S. Band with the composer conducting on May 21, 2015, in the Wilson Jr. High School Gymnasium, El Centro, California. Versions are also available for with the solo part covered by flute, oboe, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bassoon, French horn, baritone horn (TC or BC), trombone, or tuba. Rondo in A minor for Guitar and Orchestra was written in the fall of 2014, and premiered by guitarist Ian Rowe with the Imperial Valley Symphony on March 5, 2016, at the Jimmie Cannon Theatre in El Centro, California, with the composer conducting. Sir Pepe Romero, to whom the work is dedicated, calls the work charming, and of immediate appeal. The work is scored for solo guitar, pairs of flutes, oboes, clarinets in A, bassoons, horns in F, trumpets in C, timpani, a castanet machine, and strings (8,8,5,5,3). Clarinets and trumpets in B-flat are also included in the set for those orchestras without clarinets in A or trumpets in C.
