Voices of Spring (Voci di Primavera) op. 410, è un valzer di Johann Strauss (figlio).Nell'inverno del 1882-83 il compositore fu invitato a comporre un valzer vocale per il celebre soprano austriaco Bianca Bianchi (il cui vero nome era Bertha Schwarz), al tempo un acclamato membro del Wiener Hopfoperntheater (Teatro dell'opera reale di Vienna).Il valzer fu eseguito per la prima volta al Theater an der Wien il 1º marzo 1883 ad un concerto di beneficenza per la fondazione degli indigenti dell'Impero austro-ungarico fondata dall'imperatore Francesco Giuseppe e dall'imperatrice Elisabetta.Strauss, dopo il successo che aveva ottenuto con i suoi valzer corali, fu felice di scrivere un brano per sola voce e il librettista Richard Genée, che aveva già collaborato con il compositore nell'operetta Eine Nacht in Venedig (Una notte a Venezia) del 1883, scrisse anche il testo per il nuovo valzer.L'autunno del 1882 vide Strauss impegnato a Budapest per curare la prima rappresentazione dell'operetta Der lustige Krieg (L'allegra Guerra; 1881). Durante lo svolgimento di una delle serate in onore della visita del musicista viennese, fu Strauss stesso ad esibirsi al pianoforte con un altro degli illustri ospiti della serata: Franz Liszt. I due compositori si conoscevano già molto bene da almeno 30 anni (Strauss aveva dedicato il suo valzer Abschieds-Rufe op. 179 a Liszt nel gennaio del 1856) e si incontrarono in numerose altre occasioni. Fu questa visita che fornì l'ispirazione per la scrittura del valzer Frühlingsstimmen.Successivamente il valzer venne arrangiato da Johann in versione solamente orchestrale e fu eseguito in questa forma, oggi celeberrima, da Eduard Strauss durante uno dei suoi concerti al Musikverein nel 1883.Nel 1934 il valzer fu riutilizzato per l'operetta postuma (con musiche di Strauss jr.) Die Tänzerin Fanny Elßler.Durante il Concerto di Capodanno del 1987, Herbert von Karajan, inserì nel programma il valzer Frühlingsstimmen eseguendolo nella versione vocale originale con il soprano Kathleen Battle.

Rosen aus dem Süden (Rose del Sud) op. 388, è un valzer di Johann Strauss (figlio).«È stata una serata movimentata, la sala era gremita e tutti erano in attesa di poter ascoltare il nuovo lavoro del nostro Strauss, che oggi può godere del raro titolo di nostro, il massimo superlativo per un artista!»(Fremdenblatt)Così scrisse il giornale Fremdenblatt (3 ottobre) in sede di riesame del grande successo alla prima dell'operetta di Johann Strauss Das Spitzentuch der Königin (Il fazzoletto di pizzo della regina), che ebbe la sua prima al Theater an der Wien di Vienna il 1º ottobre 1880.Il compositore stesso, nonostante il favore con il quale la sua operetta venne accolta da pubblico e critica, era convinto che non avrebbe goduto di un successo duraturo. Ma Strauss non aveva alcun dubbio al riguardo del valzer, Rosen aus dem Süden, che aveva frettolosamente assemblato da motivi dell'operetta. L'edizione per pianoforte venne pubblicata dal suo editore, Cranz, appena quattro giorni dopo la prima del lavoro.L'onore di condurre la prima rappresentazione di Rosen aus dem Süden toccò al fratello Johann, Eduard Strauss, ancora impegnato in un tour di concerti in Germania quando vi fu la prima dell'operetta, che il 7 novembre lo eseguì durante uno dei concerti della domenica pomeriggio diretti da Eduard al Musikverein.Il valzer racchiude al suo interno alcune delle più belle arie dell'operetta, due arie che già avevano ricevuto la lode alla prima rappresentazione furono quella del re nel primo atto Stets kommt mir wieder in den Sinn (il ritornello che Strauss sostenne di aver dovuto riscrivere per ben 12 volte) e la romanza di Cervantes del secondo atto Wo die Wilde erblht Rose.

It was a celebration of the toast made by Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I during a visit to German Kaiser Wilhelm II. The toast stressed the necessity of bonds of friendship between the two nations. Mr Simrock suggested changing the title to Kaiser-Waltzer to please the two emperors. However, when it was published, only the Austrian Imperial crown was emblazoned on the title page! This stunning arrangement has both a pedal harp and lever harp version that is intended to be performed together. They only differ in the pedal/lever markings and an occasional harmony note. The dynamics are clearly marked. The Harp Ensemble would perform for 2 hours each evening as guests arrived at the UW-Eau Claire’s annual Viennese Ball in the student center (1998-2016). The invitation was extended due to the fact that Eduard Strauss, the youngest Strauss, was a harpist. He conducted his own orchestra from his harp and toured the United States.

Published by Edition Schwalbe (A0.1505932). Aus den Bergen (From the Mountains) was composed in summer 1864 during Johann Strauss' annual concert trip to Russia. It premiered on 2 October 1864 in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg and was dedicated to the famous Viennese music critic Eduard Hanslick. This arrangement in the original key of the orchestral version was commissioned by Salzburg Wind Philharmonic, principal conductor Hansjoerg Angerer and premiered at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2020 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television. Albert Schwarzmann had to step in at very short notice for the sick Hansjoerg Angerer, who performed this piece at the same event on 6 January 2024. The Schützen (Riflemen's) Quadrille was composed by all three Strauss brothers together on the occasion of the Third German Federal Shooting Competition in Vienna. Josef wrote the first two Parts, Eduard the middle parts and Johann the fifth part and the finale. It premiered on 28 July 1868 in the Vienna Volksgarten. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their New Year's Concert on 6 January 2009 at the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, then again, now under the new name Salzburg Wind Philharmonic at their Three Kings' Concert on 6 January 2024 at the Grosses Festspielhaus (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria and broadcasted live by Austrian television.
