It is a great reel for beginners and experts alike.History: The origins of this tune are greatly disputed, with various stories in circulation. ‘Cooley’s’ is often associated with Joe Cooley, a button accordion player from County Galway. One of the most popular explanations of the origins of this tune is from Joe’s brother, Séamus. According to him, the two brothers heard the tune in County Clare being played on a ‘battered old concertina’. Later that night, the two brothers recreated the tune tune as best they could, ‘staying up through the night working and worrying the remembered fragments until finally the reel took shape’. Kissing the stone is said to endow the kisser with great eloquence. According to legend, Cormac Laidir MacCarthy (the builder of Blarney Castle), appealed to the Irish goddess ClÃodhna for assistance with a lawsuit. She told MacCarthy to kiss the first stone he saw on his way to the courthouse, which he did. MacCarthy then plead his case with great eloquence and won. Thus, The Blarney Stone is said to impart the ability to deceive without offending.
