Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Trio Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1317467 Composed by Arthur Foote (1853-1937). Arranged by Angela Salvaggione. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Romantic Period. 12 pages. Angela Salvaggione #906130. Published by Angela Salvaggione (A0.1317467). Arthur Foote, a member of the Boston Six composers, wrote this fugue as the second movement of his First Suite for Piano in 1886. Arranged here for flute, Bb clarinet, and bassoon, this would work well with a good trio of high school students or more advanced. I've used it myself in professional settings. Very traditional fugue setting.Score and parts includedTime: ca. 2:30.

Published by David Tsvariani (A0.1324800). Fugues Op. 17 for Piano by David TsvarianiIntroduction:Allow me to share a few thoughts about my recent composition, Fugues Op. 17, for piano. Comprising four individual fugues that can be performed separately or as a complete suite, this work explores a range of tempos, keys, and thematic nuances. I've endeavored to create a modest collection that, when performed together, offers a glimpse into various emotional landscapes.Fugue No. 1 in C Major (Allegro vivace):The journey begins with the lively Allegro vivace in C major, a modest 01:44 celebration of joy and energy. It is my hope that this piece, with its brisk tempo, serves as a lively opening to the collection, showcasing the pianist's skill and the intricate counterpoint I aimed to achieve.Fugue No. 2 in B-flat Major (Andante):The second fugue, marked Andante with a duration of 02:25, introduces a contemplative mood in the key of B-flat major. In my modest attempt, this piece invites the listener to reflect and explore a more introspective side, providing a gentle contrast to the preceding fugue.Fugue No. 3 in A Major (Adagio):With a deliberate pace of 02:57 and an Adagio tempo, the third fugue in A major emphasizes melody and expression. My humble intention was to create a serene and emotional landscape, allowing the listener to experience a deeper connection with the music.Fugue No. 4 in D Major (Allegretto):The final fugue, an Allegretto in D major, lasts a mere 01:40. In a departure from convention, I introduced an Eastern or oriental scale, aiming to infuse the composition with a unique character. It is my modest hope that this unexpected touch adds a distinctive flavor to the overall work.Program Notes:As I share Fugues Op. 17, I am mindful of the privilege of having my compositions interpreted by talented performers. My sincere aspiration was to create a humble collection that weaves together varied emotions and styles. The inclusion of a melodic third fugue and the exoticism of the fourth fugue seeks to expand the tonal palette modestly. I hope that, as a whole, this collection speaks with a quiet resonance, leaving room for interpretation and connection between the music, the performer, and the listener. With gratitude, David Tsvariani.

Woodwind Ensemble,Woodwind Quintet Bassoon,Clarinet,English Horn,Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1408729 Composed by W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach. Arranged by Daniel Kaplan. 19th Century,Baroque,Chamber,Classical. 30 pages. Daniel Kaplan #991327. Published by Daniel Kaplan (A0.1408729). Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Mozart's Prelude and Fugue No. 1 from his Six Preludes and Fugues for String Trio, K.404a. This is an original prelude by Mozart plus his arrangement of the Fugue in D minor by J.S. Bach, BWV 853 (from Book 1 of the Well Tempered Clavier). Mozart wrote this to play at the Sunday musicales of Baron van Swieten in Vienna, who insisted that all participants perform music of Bach or Handel. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has also arranged several other great works for this ensemble. The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.Note that all six preludes and all six fugues from this work are also available as a single purchase on this website. This first Prelude and Fugue is being made available here for those who would rather buy one prelude and fugue at a time.

Individual part. 1 pages. Nick Mordal #6274995. Published by Nick Mordal (A0.946414). This is a mere excerpt from one of Bach's longest fugues. It is the prelude to the fugue and is a wonderfully moody baroque lute piece in A minor. Like most well written minor pieces, it utilizes natural minor, harmonic minor and melodic minor scales throughout. Techniques used in the arrangement include slurs, cross string trills, barre and familiarity with the higher notes of the fretboard.

Large Ensemble A Clarinet,Bassoon,Double Bass,Flute,Oboe/English Horn - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1496456 Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century. 38 pages. RayThompsonMusic #1072981. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1496456). Le Tombeau de Couperin is a suite for solo piano by Maurice Ravel, composed between 1914 and 1917. The piece is in six movements, based on those of a traditional Baroque suite. Each movement is dedicated to the memory of a friend of the composer (or in one case, two brothers) who had died fighting in World War I.The six movements are:Prélude. Vif (E minor)Fugue. Allegro moderato (E minor)Forlane. Allegretto (E minor)Rigaudon. Assez vif (C major)Menuet. Allegro moderato (G major)Toccata. Vif (E minor) Ravel also produced an orchestral version of the work in 1919, although this omitted two of the original movements. The movements used were Nos.1, 3, 5 and 4 in that order. The word tombeau in the title is a musical term popular from the 17th century, meaning a piece written as a memorial. The specific Couperin, among a family noted as musicians for about two centuries, that Ravel intended to evoke is thought to be François Couperin the Great (1668–1733).Ravel stated that his intention was to pay homage more generally to the sensibilities of the Baroque French keyboard suite, not necessarily to imitate or pay tribute to Couperin himself in particular. This is reflected in the piece's structure, which imitates a Baroque dance suite.Arranged double wind quintet/bass:Oboe 2 is mostly cor anglais, some bars of oboe.Clarinet parts are for Clarinet in A.

Baroque,Chamber,Classical. 20 pages. Daniel Kaplan #1000428. Published by Daniel Kaplan (A0.1418981). Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Bach's Prelude and Fugue No. 16  in G minor from Book 1 of The Well Tempered Clavier. Kaplan fondly recalls interesting his young son in classical music by asking him to play the trills of this prelude while Kaplan played the rest of the notes in an impromptu, piano-three-hands arrangement. The fugue was analyzed in Kaplan's college counterpoint class as a quintessential example, exhibiting many of the standard fugal techniques in Bach's practice. Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has arranged several other great works for this ensemble, including many of his favorites from The Well Tempered Clavier (also available on this website). The woodwind quintet is especially well suited for contrapuntal music since the distinctive tone colors of the wind instruments bring out the contrapuntal lines and make them clearer to the listener.

Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Bach's Prelude and Fugue No. 23 from Book 1 of The Well Tempered Clavier. Being in B Major, this is the quintessential Prelude and Fugue that couldn't be played in tune in standard baroque keyboard temperament, thus making the case for Bach's preferred temperament system (the details of which remain a mystery!). Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has arranged several other great works for this ensemble, including many of his favorites from The Well Tempered Clavier (also available on this website). Arrangement by Daniel Kaplan for woodwind quintet of Bach's Prelude and Fugue No. 24 in B minor from Book 1 of The Well Tempered Clavier. The prelude is in an unusual (for a Bach prelude) binary form. The fugue is remarkably chromatic and complex, based on a subject employing all 12 notes of the chromatic scale (prefiguring Schoenberg's 12-tone system, to come two centuries later!). Kaplan is engaged in a project to make classics from other genres available to woodwind players and has arranged several other great works for this ensemble, including many of his favorites from The Well Tempered Clavier (also available on this website). Piano,Trombone - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.550934 Composed by J. S. Bach - Gounod. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Christmas,Contemporary,Easter,Wedding. Score and part. 12 pages. Jmsgu3 #4888761. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.550934). This arrangement features the controversial Schwencke measure (ms. 27) that was originally introduced in 1783 by Christian Friedrich Gottlieb Schwencke. The convenient 1st & 2nd endings provide an option for extended performance. Duration with repeat - 4:50. Score: 6 pages. Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 4 pages. Based on Prelude #1 in C Major from the Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1. Well suited for church meditations or school programs or recital encores. Ave Maria Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals. Bach Overview First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.  History Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as a court composer.  Style It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top. Revival        Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.  Voyager NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Onboard are phonograph records with sounds, music, and images of life on Earth. The purpose of the launch was to inform intelligent extraterrestrial life forms about conditions on Earth. The music on the disc is varied. There is Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky among others. However, because Bach is so important in our music history, it contains three times more Bach than all the others combined.
