Babcock lived in Lockport, New York, he took frequent walks along the Niagara Escarpment to enjoy the overlook's panoramic vista of upstate New York scenery and Lake Ontario, telling his wife Katherine he was going out to see the Father's world. He died in 1901 at age 42. Shortly after his death Katherine published a compilation of Babcock's writings entitled Thoughts for Every-Day Living that contained the poem My Father's World. The poem was set to music in 1915 by Franklin L. Sheppard, a close friend of Babcock. The tune name, Terra Beata, means Blessed Earth in Latin.Guitar and voice (Guitar classical or acoustic). This is My Father’s World♫ piano solo arrangement by Stephen R Dalrymple♫ lyrics by Malthie Babcock with a traditional English melody adapted by Franklin Sheppard♫ Malthie Davenport Babcock, a pastor in upstate New York, was an athletic man who loved to walk near Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment. He often told his wife that he was “going out to see the Father’s world.†This phrase prompted the title for one of his original poems. His wife published his poems after his death in 1901 (age 42.) ♫ In 1915 Franklin Shepherd, his friend, adapted Babcock’s poem and an English folk tune to create the hymn. Shepherd named the melody TERRA BEATA (Blessed Earth). ♫ The original folk tune appears in the opening notes of the Shire Theme by Howard Shore in the Lord of the Rings Film Series.♫ The last stanza used in this video is seldom found in hymnbooks. I wrote it for a string group that included experienced players as well as string players that had started only two weeks before. Parts included are: Score, Experienced Violin, New Violin, Melody Violin, Second Violin, Viola, New Cello and Experienced Cello. When my string group performed it, the bass player doubled the experienced VC. We also repeated the music and had the experienced violin part wait until the second time to play. This is the string friendly key of D. Both the new cello and new violin parts mostly rely upon open strings and the first note up from that. This is the perfect way for multiple leveled groups to play an Easter song together. Enjoy!

The first movement I Stand Strong reflects the serenity and isolation someone might feel when surrounded by the mountains of Stowe, Vermont in the U.S.A. The second movement …and the Sky is the Limit written in an ABA cyclic form is full of rhythmic gestures starting with the combination of 7/8, 2/4, 5/8 and 3/4 in the first four measures that leads to a slow movement as an attempt to sing a Greek song in those vast territories and to portray the thankfulness of being there and experience the presence of the amazing beauty of it. When asked why he commissioned this piece, Holzman replied, My wife and I spend our summers in Stowe. We love being there, celebrate the summer and spend time outside. We have family and friends who come and share a few days with us and Apostolos is a dear friend who has been coming for several years. We talked about the possibility of him writing a piece that reflected Stowe and the mountains. When asked about the piece, Paraskevas responded, I always write music for the person behind the instrument, so while composing every note of this piece I had Adam in my mind; the way he plays, the way he breathes the way he lives his life. The work is written for the mountains of Stowe through Adam’s eyes and heart and I am the vehicle who translates it.

Published by Rocco Di Pietro (A0.1291077). “Interrupted Dance†was written for the Guitarist Larry Marotta who I have worked with for many years.I felt comfortable giving Larry the difficult tasks of going back and forth between a simple childhood tunewith variations Mozart would have approved of.I contrasted that with daunting extended techniques from the old Avant -Garde.I did not want to get rid of any technique which would still be useful to me frommy old love of Modernism, but I wanted to use that as part of my current practiceof letting the past in, which has moved away from 1966.The dance was inspired by a little sculpture a friend of mine gave to me, which depicts abooby -trapped playground. It shows a little swing set surrounded by thorns anddaggers. There is a little teddy, who wants to ride the swing but never does,because he sees the bucket of blood.The little swing set is represented by the childhood tune in its various transformations.The work is simply dedicated to that friend. The work contains two endings.The guitarist traveling teddy navigates the playground in triumph in the first endingand individuates and rejects the playground in the second ending.Returning to the practice of life in maturity.RDP.

On November 22, 1873, this preacher and good friend of Mr. Bliss lost his four children in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, as a result of a collision. Mr. Spafford had sent his wife and children ahead, promising to meet them in France, shortly. He wrote the verses in mid-Atlantic on his way over to join his bereaved wife. He asked Mr. Bliss to write the music for his verses. It was introduced publicly for the first time at a ministers' meeting in Chicago in November, 1876. One month later, it was well with Mr. Bliss's soul, as he was reunited with the Spafford children.From one of 46 booklets by Ed Reese in the Christian Hall of Fame series.

This marvelous arrangement of I Vow to Thee, My Country, a hymn tune based on the Andante Maestoso section from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from Gustav Holst's The Planets, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for church services, especially Weddings and Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. However, if you are looking to perform this selection for concerts or recitals, I would suggest you look for the arrangement of Jupiter (Andante Maestoso from Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity from The Planets), also by Regis Bookshar. These arrangements are suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing these selections as well. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (9 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quintet version of this composition quite often for numerous weddings and other special occasions.The Planets, written between 1914 and 1917 by the English composer Gustav Holst, premiered at the Queen's Hall in London, on September 29, 1918 for an invited audience of about 250 people. In the fourth movement, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Holst portrays Jupiter's supposedly characteristic abundance of life and vitality. Nobility and generosity are allegedly characteristics of those born under Jupiter, and in the slower, middle section marked Andante Maestoso, perhaps the most well-known theme from The Planets (and the theme on which this arrangement is based), Holst provides a broad tune embodying these traits. In 1921, Holst adapted the theme to fit the patriotic poem I Vow to Thee, My Country by Cecil Spring Rice, and was written as a unison song with orchestra. It did not appear as the hymn tune until 1926, when Holst harmonized this melody, named Thaxted, named after the English village where he had lived for many years. Holst's friend Ralph Vaughan Williams included it in Songs of Praise. It has since been performed at numerous occasions, most notably for the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981, and also at the funerals of Princess Diana in 1997, Margaret Thatcher in 2013 and Senator John McCain where it was performed at the Washington National Cathedral on September 1, 2018. In addition to being used as the melody for the solemn, patriotic hymn I Vow to Thee, My Country, other settings of this hymn tune also include O God, Beyond All Praising, by Michael Perry in 1982, O Spirit All Embracing by Delores Dufner in 1995 and We Praise You and Acknowledge You, O God, a paraphrase of the Te Deum Laudemus by Stephen P. Starke in 1999.Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to the Trumpet Quintet version and this version for a Viola Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection. There are Quintets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles. Please take the time to look for other versions of this composition. You may find something else that may also suit your needs. I would also encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar, as well, as there are numerous arrangements in a variety of styles, also available for purchase.
