Completely solo guitar you can use the vocal melody to make the song more sophisticated and make the song more recognizable. Then, the larger the group you play in, the more you can focus on playing the background chords. The background chords a great for those who want to train their singing, as even the chord diagrams constantly emphasize the main melody.Edit: A better name for the G major chord in measure six is B minor. Continuing in the tradition of Nancy Hurrell’s other ensemble books, these arrangements for mixed level groups are fun for everyone. The tunes are from Scotland and Ireland, and include a duet, and three-part and four-part ensembles. There are also seven great solos. In addition to the usual toe-tapping Scottish reels, the arrangements use melodic patterns to suggest ripples in the sea (Aran Boat Song), fluttering wings (The Butterfly), and jingling coins (Little Donald of the Sweets). There’s a wonderful range of styles from ancient harmonies to traditional Carolan to jazzy reels. These arrangements have multi-level parts so everyone can join in and play together. Solos are Loch Gamhna, Cliffs of Moher,The Birken Tree, Captain Campbell, Eilean Beag Donn a’Chuain, Little Brown Island in the Ocean (D. Morrison), The High Reel, George Brabazon, Second Air (Turlough O’Carolan). Courts contains 9 traditional tunes selected from Playford’s Dance Master, O’Neill’s Music of Ireland, and The Gow Collection of Scottish Dance Music and arranged by Dorothy van Joolen Barth for two instruments. These 9 tunes are part of a larger anthology entitled Of Castles, Kings, and Courts, available separately as a download for those who would prefer to have the complete book. As an audio sample, the Irish tune Lord Doneraile is provided here. I’ve endeavored to keep the melodies true to their source, though I granted myself liberty to switch the tune between the two instruments, change octaves, and add embellishments on the repeats--something that might also be done in spontaneous performance. These arrangements were conceived for recorder and violin but may also be played on flute and violin or two violins. In this volume, the suggested recorder range is indicated, but the adaptable recorder player may experiment with different ranges. We prefer the soprano recorder (which sounds an octave higher than written) on reels, jigs, and hornpipes and the tenor recorder (or alto recorder depending on range) for slower, lyrical pieces. These pieces are delightful perform for Renaissance and Celtic festivals and theme events and to add romance to period or castle weddings. Above all, may this music provide both player and listener with much enjoyment! (Revised August 2015).

Unlike much of what you'll find out in the world of cheap gig music, this was in fact written BY a string player who has played in symphony orchestras, rock bands, and everything in between; who knows what gigging as a quartet looks like, but also what will wow your audiences without requiring weeks of rehearsal to prepare. So leave your days of sight-reading through piano scores behind and give your quartet some firepower with this hard hitting chart, that will surely enable your ensemble to do at least a little justice to this legendarily emotional banger from Ireland's finest! Bono's soaring vocal melodies on this tune offer more than enough material on their own to tug at an audience's heartstrings, but in this chart you'll also find faithful adaptations of the iconic guitar & bass parts (performed by cello & viola) that truly make this song one of a kind. Using extended string techniques like chopping & strum bowing, you'll feel as if you're rocking out with the band... with no need to hire those annoying extra musicians. But as we all know, strings have much more to offer dynamically than simply plodding along mimicking a rock band, so I've taken several select moments in this chart to break away briefly from those driving grooves into more open, contemplative textures, truly allowing this instrumentation to shine in its own unique way. All of that said, maybe rhythmic string playing isn't your thing and you just need a chart that classical string players can read through on a cocktail gig where the buyer clearly doesn't pay attention to the lyrical content of their song requests. If that's the case, I've provided a couple alternate figures at the back of the book that can be used to replace the percussive stuff in the viola part, making it much simpler without sacrificing too much of the energy. OR if you want to go even further, maybe you DO want to hire that band after all so you can just relax and play some melody lines. I have arranged it for lever harp. l I have added all fingering and dynamics. The difficulty is around grade 2 to 4 level. It needs a lever change while playing and the lever needs to be changed back quickly. It also shows some sliding, so 1-1 fingering. But fingering is always optional so if you or your teacher don't like it, change it. The key is G-major so you need to have an F sharp lever, and a C sharp lever for the lever change. You can use it for piano as well.(with different fingering).

ViolinVagabond Music #6020001. Published by ViolinVagabond Music (A0.845984). This is an original Celtic fiddle tune that I wrote & performed with my live-looping duo, The Khromatiks, in 2015. It was originally conceived as a loop station composition for 7-string electric violin, but can also be performed as a fiddle solo with any form of standard accompaniment. The looper arrangement was recorded on 7-string violin with a Boomerang III loop station. That being said, there are plenty of other gear configurations that will work. Any phrase looper/sampler that is capable of playing 2 tempo-synced tracks with overdubs will be able to handle this structure, such as the Singular Sound Aeros, BOSS RC-30, Ableton Live with a MIDI controller, etc. If you don't play 7-string, a 5-string can also play this chart as written if you use an octave pedal to record the low bass lines. A standard 4-string can play all of the melodies & harmonies, but some accompaniment parts in the loop arrangement will have to be transposed 8va.The tune itself is a fairly standard Celtic jig+reel medley. In the loop station arrangement there is an extended opening that explores some suspended harmonies over a pedal-tone D. String pads & chopping grooves are stacked in the accompaniment track to bring in a more modern fusion approach to the Celtic sound.With The Khromatiks this piece was performed as a duo with violin & drums/percussion, but as I mentioned it also works as a violin solo. Using the included lead sheets, you can perform this with guitar, piano, bass, etc. The sky is the limit, feel free to get creative and share your performance!Please, if you have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me via my website, www.kylepudenz.com/, or on Instagram @theviolinvagabond

Someday is dedicated to Mr. Mahan's father, key of C, 4/4 time, with one verse of lyrics. Dreams of Bantry Bay is in C, 4/4 meter, and has a lovely melody with a jig at the end. I Want to Go With You is a soulful and lilting melody in G in 6/8 with a jig tag. Danny Boy is an easy arrangement in D. Song From a Hymn is a very nice arrangement of St. Columba in the key of D and would make a great offertory or prelude. Green Hills of Clare is in the key of D in 6/8 with a G-sharp lever change, three verses of lyrics. Black Irish is in A minor in 6/8, a fun tune to play, has a Spanish feel and some tricky rhythms.
