Concert band - Grade 4 - Digital Download SKU: IZ.CBS167-S Composed by Samuel Livingston. Score. 20 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #CBS167-S. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CBS167-S). 9 x 12 in inches. The title of this piece is a musical pun. It refers to a Fourth-of-July celebration, with fireworks, games, and patriotic music. But it also refers to the musical interval of a fourth. All of the themes in the piece are built, in some way, around the interval of a fourth. The composition of the piece actually began as a musical idea - piling up fourths and resolving to a major chord. That idea led to the title of the piece and the decision to make the interval of a fourth a prominent feature of all the themes. To convey the idea of fireworks, I used rising sixteenth-note runs in the high woodwinds, followed by a cymbal crash. That pattern appears at the opening, at the ending, and at one other point in the piece. To convey the idea of games, I used a playful theme stated by a solo trumpet and piccolo and repeated in the woodwinds; the second half of the theme is a counterpoint within sections. The patriotic music is suggested by two different kinds of themes - two anthem-like themes (think of America the Beautiful or God Bless America) and a vigorous march, which is introduced in the middle of the piece and repeated near the end. The piece opens and ends with the idea that led to its creation - piling up fourths and resolving to a major chord - accompanied by the sixteenth-note runs in the high woodwinds and the cymbal crash.

Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1130062 Composed by English Folk Song by way of American Appalachians. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Celtic,Children,Folk,Irish,Traditional,Wedding. Score and parts. 28 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #730439. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1130062). The origins of this lullaby can be traced back to 15th-century England. Pioneers from the British Isles brought it with them to the American Appalachians. Written in three verses, its lyrics tell of four seemingly impossible gifts the singer gave my love. The first verse describes each gift: cherry that has no stone, a chicken that has no bone. a story that has no end and a baby with no cryin'. The second verse poses the riddle: how can such items exist? The third provides the answers: A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stone. A chicken when it's pippin', it has no bone. The story of I love you, it has no end. A baby when it's sleepin', has no cryin'. This Riddle Song has enjoyed somewhat of a revival since mid-20th century, making appearances in various movies, TV shows and recordings. In 1956, Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis adapted The Riddle Song tune, added an original bridge and created new lyrics; Johnny Mathis recorded it as The Twelfth of Never, giving the haunting melody probably its greatest surge in popularity. This arrangement is in G major and opens with an upbeat introduction. For the first statement of the melody, tempo slows and Trumpets alternate the lead. On the second time through, tempo speeds up slightly and tuba takes the lead. For the third, tempo is back to the opening speed and Horn in F plays the melody. On the fourth time through, Trumpets and Trombone frame the tune in a call-and-response form. In the fifth, Trombone takes the lead. In the sixth and final statement, Horn in F and Trombone play melody at half speed while Trumpets play a fairly complicated counterpoint (at what may seem like double speed!). This, until the last phrase (A baby when it's sleepin'), when the melody switches over to Trumpets and Trombone takes the counterpoint. Trumpet 1 plays its A above the staff a number of times. Tuba's lowest note is its F down below the staff. Otherwise, notes for all instruments are well within normal playing range. Because of the recommended tempo, the countermelody at measures 68-83 could be problematic for Trumpets and Trombone and may require a little extra work. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 42 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.)

Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488249 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Alberto Mandarini. Baroque,Chamber,Classical,Historic,Instructional. 19 pages. Alm@music #1065126. Published by Alm@music (A0.1488249). I transcribed Contrapunctus I from the Art of Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach, faithfully respecting the work of the Great Maestro, intervening only to distribute the voices when impracticable by the individual instruments and to give some breathing space to the various performers. In fact, from 4 parts, I obtained 5 using a small doubling only in the final part. The choice to use 3 trumpets and 2 trombones, and not the more typical brass quintet (2 trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba), was dictated by the lineup I had available at the time I made the transcription. Luckily, the second trombone part fits perfectly with the original fourth voice (…except for one very brief point…).However, in the future, I don't rule out creating a version for the standard quintet too!On a didactic level, the choice of this piece was certainly ambitious, but the extraordinary thing is that through Bach's music (!!!) it was possible to address an enormous amount of musical nuances. This immediately fascinated my students, both young and old, who did not hesitate to get involved with all their strength and I must say that, at the end of the study path, each of them achieved a clear improvement both technically and, above all, expressive. But then it's no surprise, Bach's music is always extraordinary and surprising! The structure of the transcription is therefore the original one and the duration is around 2 minutes and 45 seconds. To the expected parts I also added that of the horn in F, replacing the 3rd trumpet. At your discretion, of course, decide whether to replace it or double it directly. Also in this case, the audio is made with the synthetic sounds of midi, therefore not particularly captivating, but it should still be useful for getting an idea of the arrangement and for studying the individual parts.Good music!am.

Keith Loftis #108604. Published by Keith Loftis (A0.493804). This is a light-hearted arrangement that starts out with a swinging Trombone and Tuba duet. In the second and third verses, the ensemble joins in with playful interplay among the instruments. Things slow down in the fourth verse where the Horn takes us to church. For the last verse, the second Trumpet gets a little love by taking the lead to take us home. Whether used in church or programed in a community event, this arrangement is sure to get some toes tapping.

Published by Justin M. Ryan (A0.886923). The hymn, When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, was written by Isaac Watts, and published in Hymns and Spiritual Songs in 1707. It is significant for being an innovative departure from the early English hymn style of only using paraphrased biblical texts, although the first two lines of the second verse do paraphrase St Paul at Galatians 6:14. The poetry of When I survey... may be seen as English literary baroque.[1] The hymn's fourth verse (His dying crimson...) is commonly omitted in printed versions, a practice that began with George Whitefield in 1757.[2]This arrangement is for SATB Choir and is performed at a Moderate tempo. It is broken up into 4 verses plus please watch verse 3. The Soprano melody has been slightly adjusted but still follows the same harmonic movement as in Vs. 1 and 2. Enjoy this wonderful Lenten Classic.Tune Information Composer: Lowell Mason (1824) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Incipit: 11232 34323 33343 Key: F Major or modal Source: Adapted from a Gregorian Chant

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1350276 By Yvonne Elliman. By Barry Gibb, Maurice Gibb, and Robin Gibb. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 20th Century,Broadway,Disco,Film/TV,Musical/Show,Rock. 54 pages. John Ivor Holland #935065. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1350276). If I Can't Have You is a classic disco song written by the Bee Gees in 1977; it initially appeared on the multi-platinum 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack in a version by Yvonne Elliman, released in November that year. The Bee Gees' own version appeared a month later as the B-side of Stayin' Alive. Elliman was originally going to perform How Deep Is Your Love, as she was known as a ballad singer, but the Bee Gees' manager, Robin Stigwood, decided to swap things around. Stigwood's decision proved a success as the soundtrack's first single, the Bee Gees' version of How Deep Is Your Love, shot to number one, followed to the top spot by the soundtrack's second and third singles, also by the Gibb brothers, Stayin' Alive and Night Fever. Elliman's If I Can't Have You, produced by disco pioneer Freddie Perren, was released as the fourth single off the 'Saturday Night Fever' album in February 1978. The song was covered by 80's star Kim Wilde in 1993 and charted well in several countries, along with a later version by Jess Glynne in 2016.

Trumpet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1099560 Composed by Eddie Lewis. Classical,Instructional,March. 13 pages. Tiger Music #703450. Published by Tiger Music (A0.1099560). Upgrade your library of easy trumpet literature with At Last Victorious! easy trumpet quartet. This is a 6/8 march in three sharps. As a trumpet teacher with over forty years of experience teaching beginners, I believe that solid range should be developed over a long period of time. But this doesn’t mean that the beginner students need to wait for their range to improve before they dive deeper into the musical side of the instrument. At Last, Victorious! easy trumpet quartet includes the most difficult combination of skills without moving into our first intermediate level. We will talk more about skill levels below, but let me say that many people would label At Last, Victorious as an intermediate piece. In our skill level system, three sharps and six-eight time signature are both in our second beginner skill level. And yet, the highest note in the first part is fourth space E. At Last, Victorious! easy trumpet quartet is the kind of piece I would assign to my students right before they “graduate†from the second beginner skill level into the first intermediate skill level. At Last, Victorious! is a march in six-eight time signature in three sharps. It is not as long as a traditional march and the “trio†is not technically a real trio (and therefore not marked as such). But I do believe that the piece serves as a nice introduction to marches for beginner trumpet students.

Piano Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1324803 Composed by David Tsvariani. Classical,Contemporary. Score. 4 pages. David Tsvariani #913012. Published by David Tsvariani (A0.1324803). Fugues Op. 17 for Piano by David TsvarianiIntroduction:Allow me to share a few thoughts about my recent composition, Fugues Op. 17, for piano. Comprising four individual fugues that can be performed separately or as a complete suite, this work explores a range of tempos, keys, and thematic nuances. I've endeavored to create a modest collection that, when performed together, offers a glimpse into various emotional landscapes.Fugue No. 1 in C Major (Allegro vivace):The journey begins with the lively Allegro vivace in C major, a modest 01:44 celebration of joy and energy. It is my hope that this piece, with its brisk tempo, serves as a lively opening to the collection, showcasing the pianist's skill and the intricate counterpoint I aimed to achieve.Fugue No. 2 in B-flat Major (Andante):The second fugue, marked Andante with a duration of 02:25, introduces a contemplative mood in the key of B-flat major. In my modest attempt, this piece invites the listener to reflect and explore a more introspective side, providing a gentle contrast to the preceding fugue.Fugue No. 3 in A Major (Adagio):With a deliberate pace of 02:57 and an Adagio tempo, the third fugue in A major emphasizes melody and expression. My humble intention was to create a serene and emotional landscape, allowing the listener to experience a deeper connection with the music.Fugue No. 4 in D Major (Allegretto):The final fugue, an Allegretto in D major, lasts a mere 01:40. In a departure from convention, I introduced an Eastern or oriental scale, aiming to infuse the composition with a unique character. It is my modest hope that this unexpected touch adds a distinctive flavor to the overall work.Program Notes:As I share Fugues Op. 17, I am mindful of the privilege of having my compositions interpreted by talented performers. My sincere aspiration was to create a humble collection that weaves together varied emotions and styles. The inclusion of a melodic third fugue and the exoticism of the fourth fugue seeks to expand the tonal palette modestly. I hope that, as a whole, this collection speaks with a quiet resonance, leaving room for interpretation and connection between the music, the performer, and the listener. With gratitude, David Tsvariani.

Aaron Sinnett #960521. Published by Aaron Sinnett (A0.1375969). The key signature is the same as the original. The melody has been simplified to reduce the amount of syncopation. This makes it immediately more accessible to earlier-level players. The melody also features twice. First, it is presented quite low in register, entirely in the first position; Second, it is raised up one octave to where it is found in the fourth position and lower. The cue notes were written with the intent to be played. So, have at them if you so choose. If you are intermediate level all of the notes on the page are manageable. This is a cello only version. If you are still working out some technique, leave out the cue notes (and higher melody—the second verse. The melody could be played twice in either the low or high register depending on your level.) Later, come back for those notes and passages that are more difficult after achieving the requisite skills. In general, I think that Metallica’s songs lend well to the cello’s register. I hope this will be a good experience for all.

Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749235). youtube.com/watch?v=b74tCHtcmFM‘Merry Christmas Everybody' is a major hit in the UK, and the familiar song heralds the festive season with all the ‘feel good’ emotions that come with it. We hear it in shops, supermarkets, and radio stations all over the country for the weeks in the run up to the celebrations, as it is part of a popular compilation of hits. It was a Christmas number one in 1973 and stayed there for nine weeks. Although it was recorded in New York it is not so well known in the USA which is a surprise to me. I have always loved it because of the unusual chord progressions at the end of the Chorus, and because Noddy Holder is from the West Midlands where I was born and bred. We don’t have too many famous people from around there! It is important to keep a steady tempo but it doesn’t need to be as fast as the original (120 bpm) However It *is* in the same key as the original and follows the structure exactly, so it may be possible to play along with it before coming to rehearsal, which is always helpful. It is useful to feel the syncopation that way. We planned to record this last March but that was before Lockdown! The tune is shared between first violin, viola and cello. The second violinist needs to keep a rock steady pulse. Although it is suitable for a professional quartet to play, and the first violinist often plays the tune up an octave, I feel that it is easy enough for a quartet of Grade 5 ABRSM to play with a few modifications such as playing open strings. The cellist will need to be able to play in fourth position and to stretch for the F sharps on the C string, but feel free to change the octaves or use pizzicato in the bass part if it makes things easier. The bowing is a guide only, based on the rehearsal with Capriccio Quartet, so all players should take as many bows as they need in order to feel comfortable. Enjoy playing the piece and send me any recordings on Facebook. I love to hear from people who have played my arrangements. You can hear Capriccio Quartet play my other arrangements at the Youtube Channel, Helen Marple-Horvat Songwriter, Arranger, Composer, Capriccio Quartet. String Quartet String Quartet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.910805 By Britney Spears. By Cathy Dennis, Christian Karlsson, Henrik Jonback, and Pontus Winnberg. Arranged by Matias Reimondez. Film/TV. Score and parts. 18 pages. Reimale #6491615. Published by Reimale (A0.910805). An original arrangement meant to exploit the possibilities of the string quartet, wich will blend very well given the synthetized strings that the original song already has.Toxic is a song recorded by American singer Britney Spears, for her fourth studio album, In the Zone (2003). It was written and produced by Bloodshy & Avant, with additional writing from Cathy Dennis and Henrik Jonback. Released as the second single from In the Zone, the song was initially offered to Kylie Minogue for her album Body Language, but she turned it down. After trying to choose between (I Got That) Boom Boom and Outrageous to be the second single, Spears selected Toxic instead. A dance-pop and techno-pop song with elements of bhangra music, Toxic features varied instrumentation, such as drums, synthesizers and surf guitar. It is accompanied by high-pitched Bollywood strings, sampled from Lata Mangeshkar and S. P. Balasubrahmanyam's Tere Mere Beech Mein (1981), and breathy vocals. Its lyrics draw an extended metaphor of a lover as a dangerous yet addictive drug.

Elena Fortin #745528. Published by Elena Fortin (A0.1145258). Silent Night (Lyrics by Joseph Mohr and Music by Franz Xaver Gruber) Our family recently relocated south and I was sitting at the piano feeling homesick and missing snow! I love our new place, but it seems really strange to see Christmas decorations going up in December and green everywhere!! I thought I would get in the mood for holiday celebrations by sitting down and playing old Christmas favourites. Silent Night is one of those beautiful carols where the peace and spirit of the season just settle in your heart. As I sat and played, the arrangement formed itself in my mind and in my fingers. I worked backwards on this arrangement--normally I sit down with an outline of the music in mind and work from there. This time, I played the arrangement (luckily I was recording!) and then transcribed my own arrangement. It was a new and interesting way to work and fun to dive into my mind and finger wanderings! This arrangement explores some different harmonies in the intro and the outro. The verse and chorus are repeated four times in this arrangement. The first time sticks pretty close to the original, with some suspensions and interesting rhythms thrown in to keep it interesting. The second repetition introduces several countermelodies and different right hand harmonies. The third repetition is a sweet melody in the treble register of the piano. The fourth repetition is an improvisation based on the harmonic structure of the verse and chorus. I hope you enjoy this arrangement. I hope that playing it brings you peace and joy during the holiday season. Elena.

Published by Ayotte Custom Musical Engravings (A0.733166). Schenker is known to have sent Julius Röntgen a copy of his Zweistimmige Inventionen. He seems to have been particularly fond on no. 2 of the set of four. He wrote to Röntgen on 13 April 1901, I hope that Invention No. 2, of which I am very proud, interests you. It is indeed rather quick-I mean passionate, deliberate, very expressive! It is here, primarily, where I’ve breached modernism. It would make me very happy if this invention pleased you. Patrick Miller offers this assessment of these works vis-à -vis Scheker’s other published output:The four pieces in this set seemingly mark a departure from the dense harmonic and rhythmic textures of Schenker’s previously published piano compositions. The intricate melodic lines of these pieces, however, imply a texture rich with harmonic and rhythmic details. … The first invention is a delicate chromatic study, while the second invention is an intense chromatic piece based on the B–A–C–H motive, Bb–A–C–B. With regard to thematic material and texture, the third invention is the most transparent of the set and is an exacting study in finger articulation. The fourth invention is a canon and, according to a printed footnote, is ‘a study after JS Bach’s Invention no. 2 (C minor) .

Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.1089752). This is the complete set of Sketches I-VII, that each elaborate upon ideas previously left dormant in sketch form. The first piece has a slow introductory feel, with a rising added-note chord sequence alongside a descending bass line, in crescendo. The second piece is based on a 7-bar ground bass (rising a minor third each time), that features considerable textural variation on each cycle, and culminates in a 3-part canon. The third piece explores the whole range of the piano in varied statements of a 10-bar semiquaver toccata theme, featuring canons and a superimposed scotch-snap theme. The fourth piece is cumulative, in four sections, and gradually descends in pitch by alternating hands in a minimalist build up of motifs, each followed by a chordal refrain. The fifth piece gradually builds up a right hand melody over various syncopated harmonies and appoggiaturas, before inverting the role of the hands. The sixth piece is a simple cycle of ascending repetitions of a 10-bar added-note chord sequence, with octave bass line, that rise by a perfect fifth each time. The seventh piece is a varied repetition of the opening movement (thus framing the cycle), with the initial chord sequence now arpeggiated, and with a fuller texture. The cycle is highly accessible and is appropriate for most standards of pianist, including students and more advanced players. Individual pieces from this Sketch cycle are also available separately, via Sheet Music Plus. My arrangement of the hymn tune Lyons (O Worship the King) is a relatively simple setting that requires only a two-manual organ and modest playing ability. Like the original tune, this setting is cast in 3-part, or ABA, form. The first, second, and fourth phrases of the tune are notated in elongated note values to allow for a more rhythmically active accompaniment. The third phrase, notated in the original quarter-note values, is elaborated upon, thus bringing the middle B-secion into better balance with the outer two A-sections. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process. I encourage you to search the Sheet Music Plus or the Sheet Music Direct website for other hymn arrangements of mine, some for organ and others for piano.

Instrumental Duet Alto Recorder,Instrumental Duet - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.966354 Composed by Greg Shapley. 20th Century,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 4 pages. Greg Shapley #1984573. Published by Greg Shapley (A0.966354). Phrygian Swell is an easy to play round for recorders in three parts (it may also be played by many other instruments). It is written for near-beginners, but its designed so that the sum is greater that its parts. Included in this score are two versions. The original changes time signature every bar (eventually getting up to 23/4). It plays with a number of concepts, all designed as educational tools. Firstly, it is written entirely in the mode known as Phrygian. This mode has a distinctive mystical sound primarily due to its first interval – which is a minor second. Secondly, it has been written to get players thinking about time without being too challenging (so despite the change of time signatures, most notes are just crotchets). Another educational facet of these changing time signatures is that they ascend by primary numbers. Thirdly, being a round it gets young players used to playing different parts with other players, while initially being able to rehearse altogether. Fourthly, this piece is comprised entirely of scales, but it doesn't just sound like an exercise (I hope). The second version, barred in 4/4 is exactly the same as the first, except for the rebarring. This is done in case following the continually changing time signatures is too difficult (although it does defeat the purpose of the piece to a certain extent). This version of this piece was written for three alto/treble (transposed from the original for descant/soprano or tenor), but due to its simplicity and range, could be played by many other instruments.

Preferred Contact Information: RMonteverdi@comcast.net Performing Rights Organization: BMI Website: robertgreenbergmusic.com Facebook Band Page: facebook.com/RobertGreenbergMusic Duration: ca. 33 minutes Year of composition: 1995 Program Note: I. With Friends Like These II. Inner Voices III. Little Hands and Little Feet IV. Freund Barry V. Friendly Persuasion VI. All For One and One For All I've known the Alexander String Quartet since 1987. More than just colleagues, they have become my friends: I've traveled with them, performed with them, watched them rehearse, dined with them in their homes and they in mine; I know their children and they know my children. Throughout the time I've known the members of the quartet I have observed the relationship between them, that special bond shared by the members of any touring band, described by one pundit as being like a bad marriage with no sex. Such issues notwithstanding, this particular marriage works. A string quartet represents, perhaps, the ultimate musical compromise between individual incentive and the common good. In a string quartet, by definition, four distinct instrumental voices and four different instrumental roles unite to create a whole greater than its parts. And, lest we forget, behind each instrument is a person, with his own particular attitudes, feelings, needs, and, yes, issues, all of which must be tempered and blended for the common good of a good performance. Among Friends is, its liberties aside, about the four people behind the instruments of the Alexander String Quartet and their relationships with one another; the way they play, rehearse, get along and, on occasion, not get along. The first movement, With Friends Like These is gritty and contentious in tone. The players argue, debate, annoy, tease, irk, cajole, abuse, harass, form brief alliances, heap merde upon, gang up on, and otherwise find endless ways to irritate each other. It is in this movement that the individual characters of the four instrumental parts stand in highest relief: the first violin as coloratura prima donna, forever attempting to soar above it all; the second violin as the voice in the wilderness, the viola as the voice of reason and the 'cello as mover and shaker. The opening of the movement is marked argument in progress; with greatest intensity. The second, third and fourth movements are a series of portraits, played without a break. In movement two, Inner Voices, the second violin and viola are featured in a collegial and decidedly non-contentious dialogue. Movement three, Little Hands and Little Feet, is the quiet center of the quartet. It is here that the first violin finally attains the lyric heights vainly sought in the first movement. The fourth movement is a vigorous dance entitled Freund Barry. This movement honors three great friends: Dr. Barry Gardiner, whose friendship and support made the writing of this quartet possible; Gustav Mahler, whose Symphony No. 4, second movement (Freund Heine) inspired this one; and Sandy Wilson, who first encouraged me to compose my second string quartet (Child's Play) for the Alexander in 1987 and whose boisterous 'cello is Freund Barry's alter-ego. The fifth movement is entitled Friendly Persuasion. Rapid fire repeated notes, accompanimental figures and melodic lines are shuttled about from voice to voice, each time elaborated or altered in some way. In this way the music slowly metamorphoses, ultimately arriving at a version of the argumentative music that concluded the first movement. Movement six, All For One and One For All is a fast, brief coda/finale, during which the quartet plays primarily in unison, the musical antithesis of the contentious argument that began the quartet. Among Friends was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Foundation in the Library of Congress and the Alexander String Quartet. Among Friends i.
