The idea of the piece was derived while I laid in my bed simply thinking about nothing specific one night. The opening melodic and rhythmic ideas just jumped into my mind. After writing them down, the first movement flowed naturally out and I finished it within a few hours late that night. I wrote the third movement in a similar state of mind. I began to think about how my mind general worked when trying to create music. As I was wondering the music just started to appear in my mind. Then my mind started groovin' as the music came flowing out. The second movement came much later. I had much more difficulty trying to come up with ideas for that one. In order to write it, I had to put myself into a serene state of mind with no distractions whatsoever. Again the music flowed from my mind and in one night I finished the second movement. To this day, I find that these three states of mind are where I am best able to create music.

Inside you will find Glockenspiel, Alto Xylophone, and Bass Xylophone parts. You will need a Bb key for your BX.It is in F major to facilitate the singing range of the children. Depending on your class, you may choose to have a soloist or choir do the vocal line. I have not included the second verse in this arrangement.You can use this as a springboard for your own arrangement. I removed the B section from the original to make it strictly ostinato-based, thus being accessible to a younger ensemble. When I performed it with my students we were on a short timeline on stage so we faded out using the ostinatos. Make choices that honour your ensemble and the expectations of your administration and community.I included a Ukulele chart & tab for teachers that may use ukulele in their program. The Bb chord is a little tricky, but if you have a motivated or experienced uku section they might enjoy the challenge.The drum has been split into bass & snare. When I performed it I consolidated it into a single Djembe part with a bass tone and a slap. Choose Non-pitched percussion available in your school.

As it is such a popular hit I was surprised to find that the original was by Bob Dylan, from the album ‘Time out of Mind’ from 1997, and also that it has been covered many times by different artists.Why choose my arrangement?I have arranged the piano part to follow the original very closely, transposed into G Major, as I also want to be able to play it in gigs with my daughter who is a singer. As such I have made the piano part to lie under the fingers, making sure the clefs are easy to read. I have also included a ‘piano only’ score as it falls onto three pages, and is convenient for performing, as well as the two piano scores with each violin version.Some of the harmony is slightly changed, and I composed my own bridge passage with hints at the original. Also Adele sings a quite dissonant G in the melody, against the F sharps in some of the verses. Personally I love this, but it would need to be played subtly, and the clash is less obvious in the less dense sonority of a vocal part, so I have left this option open by notating the safer version, and suggesting the dissonance rather than the other way around. On the video is an example of both.I also include a bonus ‘Easy Violin’ Part that younger players will enjoy, or perhaps the pupils of those who buy the professional level arrangement. It requires some simple shifts in the Chorus and Bridge section. However, there are some places where an open ‘A’ could slip by unobtrusively in quaver passages too. Feel free to take as many bows as you need and don’t feel bound by my bowing suggestions. I have changed my mind many times! Just do what feels comfortable and enjoy it. Some places I have left out bowing altogether eg Bar 27 where you can experiment or discuss with your teacher.Adele sings the original at 72 bpm but I think you could certainly go as high as 76 bpm without losing that mournful quality, and it will help young players with their bowing.My Youtube Channel has many of my arrangements for String Quartet, recorded by the Worcestershire, UK ‘Capriccio Quartet’, as well as many songs for instrument and piano. Since the synth pop duo recorded this song as a tribute to the King, Elvis is briefly in the building here to croon a false ending before the tempo picks up again for a punchy finish. Paul created this arrangement for Kitsch in Sync, the London-based A Cappella pop choir he founded, and the group would usually swap out the solo tenor in humorous fashion for the slow section - if your 'Elvis' really milks it the audience should start applauding before your 'Neil' jumps back in!

Every artist who has ever entertained us with this classic Hoagy Carmichael creation has jumped right to the chase, that being the verse that begins with Geor - gia,.. Wikipedia refers to the missed component as, the commonly excised introductory verse. Well, I took a good look at that introductory verse, and concluded that there was a pretty good reason nobody sang it. It needed more work than the writers had put into it, in my opinion, which is a nice way of saying that it sucked. So I fixed it, so to speak. I believe that it stands up to scrutiny.The melody line throughout has some modifications in note lengths. It is a piece originally written in cut time, which it isn't really, since it is always being sung in a moody fashion you don't normally expect to find written in 2/2 time. I think maybe that Hoagy had a secret desire to write for movie musicals.I adapted the chord diagrams to make them more suitable for playing along with on the guitar. This arrangement will appeal to anyone who has ever studied Mickey Baker's jazz guitar chords. As I see it, every song is still a tune and should be fun to play. Georgia is no exception.

Several times I tried to embrace the depth of this work through its text. And though I thoroughly enjoyed its choral setting, I could not find the musical language that invited its instrumental conveyance. Then, on December 14th of 2012, while playing with my 8-year old daughter, I learned of the details surrounding Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT. There I sat, listening as a commentator told of the some 600 children at the school and their parents, who waited outside in a despair I cannot begin to imagine, hoping that their child was not one of the victims. Little by little, the children were released into the arms of their waiting loved ones. But nothing could have prepared me for the emotions that arose when I learned that the parents and grandparents of 20 children learned of their loss when they did not return to them. There are nowords to describe what this picture conveyed in my mind in that moment. But musically, what you are about to perform is the result. I deeply thank Blake R. Henson and GIA Publications for the right to transcribe this work on their behalf.

Lutkin. Set in a minor key, the solemn, reflective melody matches the deeply thought-provoking lyrics (see below). Though the lyrics may seem archaic at first, by reading through the words and meditating on the meaning, the beauty of the message becomes clear. All notes for both VIOLIN parts and the CELLO are playable in the first position making this arrangement an excellent choice for early-intermediate string players.
