From its earliest beginnings in 1742, others have modified it to suit more modern-sized (larger) orchestras. From the original small baroque-sized orchestra in the early 18th Century to the Classical-sized of Mozart through to the full 20th Century version including percussion and tuba by Sir Thomas Beecham. Others have felt that if Handel had lived in their century he surely would have written his grand masterpiece for larger forces, given the passion of the work.This is Mozart's arrangement from 1789 which was subsequently first published in 1803 and has a Classical-sized orchestra including Alto, Tenor and Bass Trombone. According to Austrian custom of the time, the Trombones were to play ALL of the tutti choruses. Mark LaFratta has beautifully written out edited and transposed all of these choruses into the correct clefs for us to enjoy.This version is for Alto, Tenor and Bass Trombone, parts only ...... no score is included...the conductor has that.Trombonists.....this is your chance to be bold and insist that the Trombones perform in the next Messiah. Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Trombone.This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks.If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The many cross rhythms will provide a rhythmic challenge and there is little time to catch breath; following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Joropo de Justina has a performance time of around two minutes at full tempo. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon in D, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Trombone Quintet. Three Trombones play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the other two.Trombones. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (26 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, as is the original version, but, if you prefer, another version, written in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers, is also available. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon in D have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. Please keep checking because I plan to continue to add new arrangements as often as I can. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D will be a challenge to some performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come.

Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Trombones.This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks.If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The many cross rhythms will provide a rhythmic challenge and there is little time to catch breath; following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Joropo de Justina has a performance time of around two minutes at full tempo. Arranged standard brass quintet Mozart's textual inspiration is apparent in the Tuba mirum (Hark, the trumpet) movement, which is introduced with a sequence of three notes in arpeggio, played in B♠major by a solo tenor trombone, unaccompanied, in accordance with the usual German translation of the Latin tuba, Posaune (trombone). Two measures later, the bass soloist enters, imitating the same theme. At m. 7, there is a fermata, the only point in all the work at which a solo cadence occurs. The final quarter notes of the bass soloist herald the arrival of the tenor, followed by the alto and soprano in dramatic fashion. On the text Cum vix justus sit securus (When only barely may the just one be secure), there is a switch to a homophonic segment sung by the quartet at the same time, articulating, without accompaniment, the cum and vix on the strong (1st and 3rd), then on the weak (2nd and 4th) beats, with the violins and continuo responding each time; this interruption (which one may interpret as the interruption preceding the Last Judgment) is heard sotto voce, forte and then piano to bring the movement finally into a crescendo into a perfect cadence. My arrangement gives the trombone part to the horn, and the vocal entries are given to the trombone, horn and two trumpets. . Section III of the requiem is titled “Sequenz†(sequentia or sequence). Canon in D (Pachelbel) (D) (Brass Quintet - 2 Trp, 1 Hrn, 1 Trb, 1 Tuba) - Advanced/Intermediate - Digital Download. This selection, Johann Pachelbel's celebrated Canon in D, is perhaps the most famous canon ever written and has been one of my favorite compositions to arrange. A canon is a polyphonic device in which several voices play the same music, entering in sequence. Pachelbel's Canon in D, was originally written in the key of D Major and was scored for three violins arranged in canon, accompanied by a basso continuo which repeats the same harmonic progression throughout the entire piece. The common musical term for this is ostinato or ground bass. Regis Bookshar has now arranged this music for a Brass Quintet consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba. Two Trumpets and the French Horn play the melody in canon while the ostinato accompaniment is played by the Trombone and Tuba. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but could also be performed by professional performers. It is perfect for concerts and church services, especially for Weddings, but could be performed for any occasion. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (30 pages). This version is written in the key of D Major, as is the original version, but another version is also available, if you prefer, in the key of Bb Major, to make it a little easier for some younger performers. Other versions of Pachelbel's Canon in D have also been arranged by Regis Bookshar and are available for a wide variety of instrumental Quintets and Octets, in both the keys of D Major and Bb Major. I think that String players would probably prefer to play the versions in the key of D Major while the Brass and Woodwind musicians might prefer to play the Bb Major versions. I hope you take the time to compare the different versions to find the right version for you. To help you decide which version, or versions, you may want to choose, I have included several musical samples for you to listen to and to hear what these arrangements may sound like and so that you may compare the various arrangements. Also, just to let you know, the Octets written in the key of Bb Major have full-length recordings while the Octets in D Major and all Quintets have only the first 25 measures, or so, available to hear. Please feel free to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar which are also available. There are quite a few other arrangements in a variety of styles and I'm certain you will find something else which might interest you as well. The chorus of birds, one species after another, unite in a wild and genuine polyphony while the dew and mist evaporate upon the rising of the sun, encouraging goosebumps and shivers from an open window, tempered or exhilarated by a cup of coffee. Have you ever actively witnessed the sun’s sultry and intense ascension from the cradle of the horizon? That is what this piece, Aubade, or Dawn Song, is about. An aubade is the twin of a night-time serenade; an aubade is a love song originating amongst the medieval Provençal troubadours, depicting the morning departure between two lovers. An aubade is a song in honor of the slow cosmic percolation of a late summer morning. On a personal level, the composer is reminded of his own experiences camping in Northern Canada as a young man–a simpler and less demanding time. This piece formally begins the series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies–his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!–though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his first symphony; I envisioned, once my piece concludes, his beautiful drawn-out chords presenting themselves–the dawn of his special genius.About the Composer: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

What a solid groove tempo for the band---they'll really dig into this chart, and you'll need only minimum prep time for a great performance. No individual solos---just ensemble throughout---reasonable ranges, and a really fun bass part. With the addition of the flexible instrumentation and the optional parts, IN THE MIDNIGHT HOUR just about plays itself!
