Various - Digital Download SKU: BJ.1104 Composed by Various. Arranged by Gunnar Eriksson. Octavo. 89 pages. Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital #1104. Published by Bo Ejeby Forlag - Digital (BJ.1104). 8.27 x 11.7 inches.French and Swedish folksongs are the foundation for the models of improvisation and arrangements that are presented in this booklet for choirs on all levels. The idea of this book is to provide the choral conductor and the choir with a way into a somewhat more liberated way of working less tied to sheet music. Or if you wish: let the ears be more important than the eyes, and the body more important than the brain in the first encounter with the music. I present some simple, more or less ancient, ideas on composition and collective improvisation. You can create your own building kits, which in turn can develop into soundscapes. This can also serve as an invitation to the choir to, in a playful manner, approach the contemporary music and its ways of expression. - Gunnar ErikssonNotes in Swedish, French and English.

This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions d’Oz website and on YouTube. Search for À vos guitares, prêt, joue! Vol. 4.Isabelle Héroux, editor, professor, Department of Music, UQAM.Louis-Edouard Thouin-Poppe, assistant editor, arranger and engraver. Voice and guitar - Advanced - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1537 Composed by Guillaume de Machaut. Arranged by Dusan Bogdanovic. Score. 12 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1537. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1537). Regarded as the most significant French composer and poet of the 14th century, Guillaume de Machaut was the central figure of the ars nova style in late medieval music. The three vocal pieces included in this collection are two rondeaux Ma fin est mon commencement, Rose, liz, printemps, verdure along with the motet Je suis aussi com cils qui est ravis. An additional curiosity, the iconic rondeau Ma fin est mon commencement (My end is my beginning) has a very intricate form built on palindromic form; while one voice reads the line from left to right, the other uses the same line in the opposite direction. Both voices meet in the middle of the piece, thus creating a mirror-symmetric form. While maintaining the principal upper part vocal, my arrangement relegates the two additional voices to the guitar.

E-flat clarinet & piano - Digital Download SKU: IZ.PDP009 Composed by Johann Melchior Molter. Score and Parts. 25 pages. Imagine Music - Digital #PDP009. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.PDP009). 9 x 12 in inches.Johann Melchior Molter achieved particular notoriety for his writing for unusual instruments, such as the chalumeau, the flauto d' amore, the flauto cornetto, and the harp. The clarinet was at the time a very new and quite unrefined instrument, but the Karlsruhe court orchestra possessed a musician (Johann Reusch) who played it. In 1747 Molter wrote four concerti for the piccolo clarinet in D, which are possibly the first clarinet concerti ever written. The motives and fanfare-like arpeggiated figures of these clarinet concerti reflect the early clarinet's reputed tonal similarity to the trumpet. It is interesting to note that the English referred to the early clarinet as the Mock Trumpet, and the name clarinet itself is derived from the Italian word for trumpet, clarino. The piccolo clarinet in D is the clarinet for which Richard Strauss wrote the main motive of his famous tone poem Till Eulenspiegel, and it also notably appears in the symphonies of Mahler and Stravinsky's Le sacre du printemps. The D clarinet is still in fairly common use today, but the majority of modem clarinetists perform parts written for the D clarinet on the much more common E-flat clarinet. For this arrangement I wished to allow the clarinetist to perform Molter's third concerto on the E-flat clarinet in the same key as it was written for the D clarinet. Therefore, I have transposed the piece from the original key of G to A-flat, which keeps the written solo part in the key of F. It is my sincere hope that this practicality will allow many more clarinetists to enjoy performing this historically significant piece of clarinet repertoire.

Arranged by Ray Thompson. 20th Century,Chamber. 27 pages. RayThompsonMusic #890400. Published by RayThompsonMusic (A0.1300657). Arranged double wind quintet/bass and optional percussion. Background info:Parade is a ballet choreographed by Leonide Massine, with music by Erik Satie and a one-act scenario by Jean Cocteau. The ballet was composed in 1916–17 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The ballet premiered on Friday, May 18, 1917, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, with costumes and sets designed by Pablo Picasso, choreography by Léonide Massine (who danced), and the orchestra conducted by Ernest Ansermet. The ballet was remarkable for several reasons. It was the first collaboration between Satie and Picasso, and also the first time either of them had worked on a ballet, thus making it the first time either collaborated with Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes. The plot of Parade incorporated and was inspired by popular entertainments of the period, such as Parisian music-halls and American silent-films.Much of the settings used in Parade's plot occurred outside of the formal Parisian theater, depicting the streets of Paris. The plot reproduces various elements of everyday life such as the music hall and fairground. Before Parade, the use of popular entertainment materials was considered unsuitable for the elite world of the ballet. The plot of Parade composed by Cocteau includes the failed attempt of a troupe of performers to attract audience members to view their show. Some of Picasso's Cubist costumes were in solid cardboard, allowing the dancers only a minimum of movement. The score contained several noise-making instruments (typewriter, foghorn, an assortment of bottles, pistol, and so on), which had been added by Cocteau (somewhat to the dismay of Satie). It is supposedthat such additions by Cocteau showed his eagerness to create a succès de scandale, comparable to that of Igor Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps which had been premiered by the Ballets Russes some years before, and caused no less scandal.Although Parade was quite revolutionary, bringing common street entertainments to the elite, being scorned by audiences and being praised by critics, nonetheless many years later Stravinsky could still pride himself in never having been topped in the matter of succès de scandale. The ragtime contained in Parade would later be adapted for piano solo and attained considerable success as a separate piano piece. The finale is a rapid ragtime dance in which the whole cast [makes] a last desperate attempt to lure the audience in to see their showThe premiere of the ballet resulted in a number of scandals. One faction of the audience booed, hissed, and was very unruly, nearly causing a riot before they were drowned out by enthusiastic applause. Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche.Prestidigitateur chinois (Chinese Conjuror) is no 1 in the ballet, and includes some of the odd percussion : sirens in addition to normal orchestral perc. The piece can be performed without percussion....but the percussion gives it an extra something!!

Many of their objections were focused on Picasso's cubist design, which was met with cries of sale boche. Petite Fille Americaine  (Young American Girl) is no 2 in the ballet, and includes some of the odd percussion : typewriter and gunshots, in addition to normal orchestral perc.It also includes the Ragtime Dance which became very popular in it's own right. The piece can be performed without percussion....but the percussion gives it an extra something!!

Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596539 Composed by Juan MarÃa Solare. 20th Century,Concert,Contemporary. Score. 7 pages. Juan Maria Solare #3880115. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596539). Listen: https://soundcloud.com/juan-maria-solare/ausenteAusente (Abstent) is an atonal milonga. If Franz Liszt composed a Bagatelle without tonality, why not a milonga without tonality. This piece is placed somewhere between classical music and new tango. Moderator Louis Barabbas wrote about Ausente for the BBC blog Fresh On The Net nr. 305 (19 November 2018), http://freshonthenet.co.uk/2018/11/faves305 Described as 'somewhere between classical music and new tango' the artist’s phrasing here is telling: somewhere rather than something. For in Juan Maria Solare’s Ausente (absent) we are certainly transported. Each angular phrase jutting up like stone columns or distended stalactites in a limey cave. The trickling thrust of its furtive intent feels somehow elemental yet focused through an urban noir prism, drops of heavy water in varying temperatures, some icicles and some steam, shards of smoky light poking around slow moving fan blades and between the rusty teeth of ancient window grills, monstrous warped shadows cast up from humble orphaned minutiae. Music as beautiful and unsettling as it is hard to dance to. The idea of dancing this piece was a surprise for me, since tango music doesn't need to be danced to (you can also just listen to it). But if you wonder how this tango would appear danced, imagine it is not called tango but contemporary ballet rooted in tango - and suddenly you find ways of dancing it... provided an open-minded choreographer is on board! If someone wants to dance this music in the style of the tango of 1920, they will have a hard time. It would be like trying to dance Strawinsky's Le Sacre du printemps as if it were the Blue Danube Waltz. Juan MarÃa Solare http://www.JuanMariaSolare.com
