The Overture A Midsummer Night's Dream is originally composed by the German composer Felix Mendelssohn, who was inspired by reading William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was initially created as a piano piece for duet, intended for enjoyment with his sister Fanny. Notably, Mendelssohn himself later arranged it for orchestra in 1826 when he was just 17 years old.Fast forward 16 years, this piece took an unconventional path to composition. It was commissioned by King Wilhelm IV of Prussia at the time, and the overture became part of a larger work known as Incidental Music, where it was accompanied by other pieces, apart from the overture.The Overture A Midsummer Night's Dream begins with four chords that evoke a gentle breeze, as if beckoning you into the world of fairies, in line with the folklore that claims that on the eve of Midsummer (Walpurgis Night), fairies and witches gather for revelry. It then transitions into the theme of the fairy's fluttering wings, followed by the music of the Fairy King's palace, the lovers' theme, and passages for clowns and hunting scenes. Finally, it returns to the fairies, dancing and disappearing as if carried away by the wind.We have arranged this enchanting piece for a brass ensemble, featuring ten players (3 trumpets, 3 horns, 3 trombones, and 1 tuba). The 1st Trumpet part includes an optional switch to Piccolo Trumpet, but this is purely optional and not mandatory to perform the arrangement.Additionally, please note that the 3rd Trombone part is intended for the Bass Trombone but can also be performed using Euphonium or Tenor Bass Trombone.

Gnome`s Dream was designed to be performed by a group of five artists, or even seven, nine, one thousand or more! Any kind of diatonic Harp can be used to perform this piece. When playing the harp with the rest of the ensemble it might be better to perform it mostly as it was written. In the absence of a Double bass, than should the cello take its part. In the case of an ensemble with more artists where we have already formed a bowed stringed orquestra, The double bass while playing the introduction of the piece remains a soloist and it will than be reenforced with a cello while the other bowed instruments are also playing. It would be good to tune the E string of the double bass down to a D but if this is not possible than simply play the lower „D notes one octave higher. It is a perfect piece for a mixed group of early beginners and „early soloists, it is very easy to perform. It can be played by a group of five artists, as well as a complete string orquestra with harp. Some interpretation symbols where used in the score as a performance suggestion. Most of the score is left virgin to the interpretation of the artists involved, particularly the use of bowing and fingering. It is a very flexible piece that can be used in all kinds of events. The score For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entrywas written on Finale. The sound file For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry, was produced with samplers from Garritan, conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. One of the Masterpieces of Chinese Music of 20th Century The magnificent cave art at Dunhuang, in Western China sets the stage for the ballet, “Dream of Dunhuangâ€. In the middle of the vast wastes of Western China, lies the oasis of Dunhuang, situated in today‘s Gansu Province. Since the Western Han Dynasty(202BC-8AC), Dunhuang was an important trading and cultural center on the famous “Silk Road’, the ribbon of communication which fostered the historic ties between East and West. In the East was China, source of treasured trading articles such as silk; in the West, the â€road“ branched to Venice, and north to what is today‘s Russia. The mural led caves at Dunhuang, which were begun the Northern Wei dynasty(336AD), and developed over one thousand years into the Qing Dynasty, re presents one of the world‘s richest cultural treasures. Drawing on bothn Western(Indian and Persian) as well as Chinese tradition, the caves, of which 492 remain intact, were decorated as a mines of religious devotion, with the initiation of Buddhism into China. The subjects of the murals, such as devise, demons, apsaras and bodhisattvas, represent the entire pantheon of Buddhist mythology, yet are also significant in their representation of muti-racial and muti-cultural influences, standing as an important testament to the age old exchange between East and West. A fabricated fantasia, the story of the ballet was inspirited by the famous artist, maestro Chang Shu-hong, who dedicated his whole life to Dunhuang. One of the Huang An-lun‘s major compositions with the play written by Xu Qing-dong, the score of “Dream of Dunhuang†was completed in mid-1979. The ballet has been dedicated to the composer‘s closest friends, Canadian writers John Fraser and Elizabeth MacCallun. Up to the date this CD being released, the ballet has never got a chance to performed in mainland China. Nevertheless, its music has been wildly performed and warmly received around the world. The Singapore premiere of its suite No.1 was performed by the SSO, conducted by Maestro Lim Yao. It has been also chosen as one of the “Master Piece of Chinese Music in 20th Century†in 1993. The world premiere of the complete ballet was performed successfully by the Russian State Ballet of Moscow, directed by its artist director, Vyatcheslav Godeyev, in 1994. Choreographed by Chen Min, it was took place in Taiwan with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by maestro David C.H.Chen. In 2002, ROI of Hong Kong has released the CD of the whole ballet, performed by the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra of Moscow. This is also the audio file attached. Before this recording conducted by the composer himself, the entire score was also performed by the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra of Moscow in1995. The YouTube video was the World Premiere in Taiwan by the Russia National Ballet with the Taiwan symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Chen in 1994. The ballet, “ Dream of Dunhuang†depicts two young artists seeking the ultimate experience in love and expression. While there is no theme that connects them to one another, they are all in the key of E Major and consist mostly of a waltz-like feeling. I. Remembrance of a Dream is the first movement, characterised by its sonata form and distinct, contrasting sections. The piece paints a story of dancing lovers before they are forced to give their final goodbyes.

Inspired by the Bard's fanciful tale of tangled lovers, mischievous fairies, and an enchanted forest, this music transports listeners to a magical midsummer eve.The story follows four lovers whose romantic entanglements become chaotically intertwined thanks to the meddling pranks of the impish Puck with his love potion. To quell the madness he has unleashed, Puck casts a spell lulling the four into a deep slumber accompanied by Mendelssohn's wistful Nocturne. When they awake, all is forgotten and order restored.This transcription for brass ensemble exquisitely captures the longing melody originally voiced by solo horn, dividing it among three horns. The euphonium and bass trombone parts are interchangeable, though the powerful euphonium is featured during the work's swelling middle section. If performing without euphonium, some phrases differ slightly.Two versions are included - the full-length original and an abridged edition better suited for certain programs and ensembles' abilities and stamina.
