The practice of adding an accompaniment to a composition originally created for a solo instrument is a time-honored tradition in Western art music, whether the additional music be for one or a few instruments or an entire ensemble. In the latter case a concerto movement can be fabricated from a solo work. The Concertino Barocco (Little Baroque Concerto) takes as its basis two pieces of the Baroque era that have long been popular repertoire for advancing students of the keyboard: the Solfeggio (or Solfeggietto) by C.P.E. Bach, and the third movement, Presto, from the Sonata in C minor by Giovanni Battista Pescetti. These works are transformed into two miniature concerto movements by adding and interpolating short tutti passages at various points in the form, rather in the style of Antonio Vivaldi. Not a note has been added or subtracted from the original keyboard solos, so that a student who has mastered the originals may play this Concertino simply by memorizing the exact points in the original pieces where additional music for the orchestra has been added and they must wait to continue.

Published by Peter Daniel Klein (A0.1029559). I have written a programmatic, neo-romantic/post-romantic prose and musical fragment/miniature based on Schlegel's writings about a Hedgehog. Fragment in the sense that it is not fully developed, yet, in another sense, it is overdeveloped for its length. There are several modern elements in that it is bitonal at one point. At another point, I pit Scriabin's mystic chord, which is his synthetic mode, against what I feel is its nearest aeolian mode, c-minor, which is modernistically dissonant. It is written in 'classicized' AABA popular song form, which is perfect for a miniature. It revolves around the programmatic, free verse' Prayer,' a plea to God for sleep, elusive due to the mourning of lost love and the associated emptiness and grief felt deep in the night. It is motivic in that there is a repeated augmented 6 to a half-diminished cadence that introduces the theme and then serves to transition each small section, in a secondary dominant style repetition until reaching tonic. -A1 is a simple statement of the linear theme and harmony in 6ths, and 9ths, almost in keeping with the introductory and transitionary cadence, at least intervallically. -A2 is a restatement of that theme with an added countermelody (which becomes the subject of section B) woven between the upper linear melody and the altered bass accompaniment. -B begins with a short statement of the countermelody bi-tonally, the left hand in c minor, the right in g minor. There is a brief transposition between several keys, bitonally, while the sostenuto pedal holds a pedal tone until it attenuates completely. The two measures build from repressed despondency to rage, as strong emotions often do, quickly turning to dissonant chaos. The dynamics and intensity build to a diminished chord whose top note moves up half a step to a Scriabin mystic chord arpeggio. The held sustain pedal melds the dissonance together with emotional tumult, which fades as quickly as it came, as outbursts often do. -A3 starts with the motivic cadence and a deep bass pedal tone. This section is the crowning moment in the piece. This playful little piece in G Major is a miniature. The 8-measure section in G is followed by an 8-measure section in E minor. The third section is a repeat of the first, with a coda, accelerating to the finish line. Young pianists practice reading a few measures of bass cleff in the right hand and treble clef in the left hand as the piece shifts octaves. The slur and staccatos give character and charm. While it is short, it is somewhere between easy and intermediate due to the clef changes. You will be able to judge best after hearing the recording. .

Lágrima (Teardrop) is a romantic prelude for solo guitar by Spanish guitarist Francisco Tárrega. It is one of the best-known original compositions by Tárrega. It has been published by Ildefonso Alier.Analysis:Lágrima is a very short miniature consisting of only 16 bars. It takes around 2 minutes to perform and its tempo marking is andante. It has an A-B-A structure, section A being in E major and B in E minor, and has been overwhelmingly highlighted by critics because of its simplicity and melancholic atmosphere. Each section has 8 bars. Section A consists of a very simple and predictable melody with quarter notes and dotted half notes, while the accompaniment has eighth notes. Section B turns a little bit less predictable but otherwise still very simple, with eighth notes on the main voice. At the end of section B, section A is repeated to close the work.[ As usual in Tárrega's composition, Lágrima bears some technical difficulties in spite of its simplicity.Composed between late 1891 and early 1892, it is one of Tárrega's most performed pieces. Lágrima has not been included in a definitive catalogue of his works. It has been, however, included in other collections of pieces and has been numbered depending on the position in those collections or in recordings.Musical style:Tárrega composed music in the romantic style of 19th-century European masters. His conservatory training and familiarity with contemporary classical genres and techniques are apparent in his compositions and transcriptions; these are more sophisticated than those of Spanish guitarist-composers of the previous generation and his contemporaries, e.g., Magín Alegre, Tomás Damas, Julián Arcas, José Viñas, and José Ferrer.A virtuoso on his instrument, he was known as the Sarasate of the guitar, although Tárrega preferred small intimate performances over the concert stage.Tárrega is considered to have laid the foundations for 20th-century classical guitar and for increasing interest in the guitar as a recital instrument.

The right hand is part melodic and part three part chordal.
