A great song all about being strong after a break up (or perhaps even after a serious illness). Three part choir arrangement with Soprano, Alto and Alto 2/Tenor.  Basses can sing the lowest line an octave below if desired.This is  in Cminor/major, a tone higher than the original.The verses are essentially in unison and choruses have easy 3 part harmony but the offbeat rhthms add a dimension of difficulty for a more advanced choir. One of those songs that once it iis in your repertoire you can pull out at a moments notice and your choir will just sing it. There is a little space in the instrumental for claps/clicks or to add some moves if you feel like it.

Minuet and Variations for Trumpet and Piano This minuet starts off with restrained elegance and then veers off into something with attitude, no longer quite baroque. There are few places to rest in this piece so good breath control is very important. Strive for precise articulation especially in the staccato passages, and a full, rich tone in the Tempo Primo section at Bar 30. Sarabande This piece was inspired by various classical works but it still has something of the Twentieth Century about it. You'll notice the B section suggests a minuet. If you can find moments to use a true, fully supported pianissimo it will help make this melody truly haunting. August Serenade This piece has a spritely main theme that introduces two quieter, more introspective melodies. The first theme again echoes a minuet while the second is more of a slow waltz. The main theme should be precise and fiery, the second played with a sweet elegance and the waltz filled with warmth and autumnal colours.

We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. This intermediate level piece for piano (2 min, 45 sec) is the third meditation in a volume of twelve. Its recurring melodic and rhythmic motif unifies the composition through contrasting moments of light and darkness. Throughout the harmonic progression, there is an emphasis on the subdominant--always a relaxation of tonality. And it is this plagal sound that is heard last, suggesting a resting place, a moment's peace on an unfinished journey.The performer should be aware of the left-hand's missing eighth-note rest on the down-beat of nearly every measure. It was omitted to avoid a graphic collision. Therefore, the higher octaves are all played on the ands of each beat. Also, notice that in measures 13-14 and other similar places the right-hand plays higher voiced notes in the bass clef. Be careful not to over-emphasize the left-hand ostinato figure, especially the notes played with the thumb. They should be the softest sounds throughought. This selection is one of the many arrangements from the Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble’s extensive music library which are being made available for the first time. We have performed the Trumpet Quartet version of this composition for many church services, especially funerals, when we were asked to supply something more somber and introspective rather than the louder, more festive music which many people come to expect from a Trumpet Ensemble. Francesco Durante was an Italian composer who was born on March 31, 1684 at Frattamaggiore, in the Kingdom of Naples. At an early age he entered the Conservatorio dei poveri di Gesu Cristo, in Naples, where he received lessons from Gaetano Greco. Later he became a pupil of Alessandro Scarlatti at the Conservatorio di Sant’Onofrio. He is said to have succeeded Scarlatti in 1725 at Sant’Onofrio and to have remained there until 1742, when he succeeded Nicola Porpora as head of the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto, also in Naples. He held this post for thirteen years, until his death on September 30, 1755. His fame as a teacher was considerable, and, unlike his Neapolitan contemporaries, who attracted international notice with their operas, Francesco Durante achieved recognition through his church music, along with some vocal chamber and instrumental works. His concern was not quantity. A complete collection of Durante’s works, consisting almost exclusively of sacred music, was presented by Gaspare Selveggi, a Neapolitan art collector and music theorist, to the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris. The imperial library of Vienna also preserves a valuable collection of Durante’s manuscripts. The fact that Durante never composed for the stage brought him an exaggerated reputation as a composer of sacred music. He was considered one of the best church composers of his style and period. In his masses, requiems, litanies and Lamentations, he could provide strong expressive moments, as he does in this “Kyrieâ€. In addition to this arrangement for a String Quartet, Regis Bookshar has also made other arrangements of this selection.
