I had just turned 23 years old, and had been composing for only a short time when I wrote it. It is a simple, lyrical piece with an arpeggiated left-hand under a right-hand melody. My mother, who was my first piano teacher, enjoyed this piece and played it often. I offer this gentle lullaby in her memory.

Published by Steve Martin, Rainy Night Music (A0.973000). This is the lullaby that I wrote for my first-born niece when she was a baby. It was composed specifically for guitar, and this copy comes complete with guitar tab as well as traditional notation. I've used an interesting tuning combination for the piece, which is why it also comes with tab, to make everything clearer. Both of the E strings are tuned up by 1 semitone to F, and the B string is de-tuned by 1 semitone to Bb. The resulting sound is pleasant, and unlike most other music out there on the classical guitar market, making it a lovely little piece to learn - and of course to serenade an infant with! It's approximately Grade 4 in standard (ABRSM), so the tuning doesn't make the piece any more difficult to play, and of course, the tab is there to make it crystal clear during the learning process how it is to be played. I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did writing it. Please do take a look at another of my classical guitar compositions, Summer Sunset, which would work really well with Holly's Lullaby as a pair. Thank you for your interest in my music. .

Published by Christian Paulson (A0.1135076). I originally wrote Parker's Lullaby for our orchestra to celebrate the birth of my first grandchild, Parker. Then I wanted to explore the sounds of the concert band with this piece...so away I went. A couple of fun things went into writing this piece originally. It had to be a lullaby, represent the anticipation of her arrival and the peacefulness of her sleeping, while contrasting her whimsical side with her bold and dramatic side. A couple of other things. The chords are rather jazzy because grandpa is a rather jazzy guy. At letter C, the drum part is grandpa being playful while the flute melody is her grandma doing the same. The ranges are comfortable allowing your band to sound full and confident. I think your horns will enjoy their heroic part in the climax. I'm very pleased with how this turned out. It was important that it kept its simplicity going from strings to band. I hope you enjoy it.

Blue Lullaby for Nefeli – Program Notes I composed Blue Lullaby for Nefeli for a student of mine who was an alto saxophone player and a jazz singer. My intention in this piece was to remain simple, subtractive, on a medium level of difficulty, and use only low and medium dynamics, in order to be attuned to its lullaby - for - kids character. Thus, it was not surprising that it was composed during night, during a single night until the first light of the day came through.

This piece was my reaction to the story of a little girl named Marquishia whose life was too short and tragic. I think she deserved more than her fate, and wrote this lullaby to sooth my own grief after following the developing story in the news, as it happened.... Lloyd and Toombs told Culver City police Sept. 22, 1992, that Marquishia had disappeared during a shopping trip at the Fox Hills Mall. In the days that followed, Toombs appeared on television to ask help in finding the missing girl.When police summoned Lloyd and Toombs to the Culver City station for further questioning Sept. 28, the women admitted that the first story was a fabrication. They said that Marquishia had drowned accidentally in a bathtub at Toombs' home in Ontario.The women told police they panicked after the girl died and Lloyd dumped Marquishia's body beside a lonely stretch of road in the Lucerne Valley....

The origins of this lullaby can be traced back to 15th-century England. Pioneers from the British Isles brought it with them to the American Appalachians. Written in three verses, its lyrics tell of four seemingly impossible gifts the singer gave my love. The first verse describes each gift: cherry that has no stone, a chicken that has no bone. a story that has no end and a baby with no cryin'. The second verse poses the riddle: how can such items exist? The third provides the answers: A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stone. A chicken when it's pippin', it has no bone. The story of I love you, it has no end. A baby when it's sleepin', has no cryin'. This Riddle Song has enjoyed somewhat of a revival since mid-20th century, making appearances in various movies, TV shows and recordings. In 1956, Jerry Livingston and Paul Francis adapted The Riddle Song tune, added an original bridge and created new lyrics; Johnny Mathis recorded it as The Twelfth of Never, giving the haunting melody probably its greatest surge in popularity. This arrangement is in G major and opens with an upbeat introduction. For the first statement of the melody, tempo slows and Trumpets alternate the lead. On the second time through, tempo speeds up slightly and tuba takes the lead. For the third, tempo is back to the opening speed and Horn in F plays the melody. On the fourth time through, Trumpets and Trombone frame the tune in a call-and-response form. In the fifth, Trombone takes the lead. In the sixth and final statement, Horn in F and Trombone play melody at half speed while Trumpets play a fairly complicated counterpoint (at what may seem like double speed!). This, until the last phrase (A baby when it's sleepin'), when the melody switches over to Trumpets and Trombone takes the counterpoint. Trumpet 1 plays its A above the staff a number of times. Tuba's lowest note is its F down below the staff. Otherwise, notes for all instruments are well within normal playing range. Because of the recommended tempo, the countermelody at measures 68-83 could be problematic for Trumpets and Trombone and may require a little extra work. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 42 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. A short piece I wrote after my niece Roman Ellis Cullins was born after just 26 weeks into her development. She was such a frail, almost alien-looking thing that had several machines hooked to her just to keep her alive, and had to spend the first few months of her life in NICU.Thankfully, Roman has fully developed with few complications and now lives at home with my sister and brother-in-law. With this piece, I tried to capture both the sweetness and the oddity of Roman's journey thus far, choosing strange, often crunchy harmonies. Keep in mind that it's mostly in 8/8, which an odd meter. The beat grouping is 3+3+2-notice how the left hand is beamed.

Watching them fall asleep is still a very special time (even as they get older) and I wanted to convey gentleness and a gradual slip into slumber with this music.Technically, the piece makes use of a synthetic pentatonic scale and it's modes. It's essentially in three parts, with the third part stretching out the basic material from the first section in augmentation.
