Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.750785 Composed by E. T. Paull (1908). Arranged by Brendan Elliget MAGA 537. Contemporary. Score and parts. 115 pages. BJE Music #3567783. Published by BJE Music (A0.750785). The Home Coming March (1908) - Concert Band Score and Parts PDF Music by: ET Paull Of course, eventually, all the soldiers and sailors had to eventually come home from all the battles and Paull had that eventuality well covered also. The artwork on the front cover (of unknown origin) is one that is full of imagery that covers all aspects of the services, Army and Navy and is full of patriotic and familial ideals. The border lists all of the US States and the corner pictures depict aspects of homecoming. The main image is a parade of victory. Let's let Paull explain it all to us as he did on the inside cover. Why This Piece Of Music Was Named The Home Coming March Explanatory When the author had about completed the music of the present march, it occurred to him that it might be well to have suggestions made from a number of people, recommending a good name for same, for after all there is considerable in a name. He, therefore, had a special advertisement placed in several of the leading music Journals throughout the country, offering a prize of $10.00 in gold to anyone suggesting a name that would be accepted. Over three thousand names were sent in from all parts of the country, even from far away New Zealand and Australia, in which countries the author's marches are universal favorites. Included in the letters received was one from Mr. W. C. Bates, Secretary of the Sheffield Advertising Agency of New York and Chicago, in which he suggested the name The Home Coming March. After due consideration, this name was accepted, and the prize was awarded and paid to Mr. Bates, who stated that he was prompted to recommend this name on account of having been present during the impressive celebration of Old Home Week in Boston, Mass., last year. Probably no one idea is so universally dominant in the mind of the Human Race as that of home, or matters pertaining to home. The author believes that the name selected is one that will appeal to everyone; as the many pleasant associations with the words Home Coming are almost without limit. The title page of this march is without any exception the handsomest seen on a piece of music. The main body of the title pace represents a street scene, with buildings decorated and shows a handsome royal Arch of Welcome in the foreground, gaily decorated with flags, emblems, and bunting. A band is shown passing under the arch, leading a procession of the Home Guard, and thousands of people waving handkerchiefs, banners, flags, etc. Four smaller scenes also appear on the page, one representing the Home Coming of the soldier from war; another scene shows the Home Coming of the sailor boys embarking from their battleships; another scene represents the Home Coming reunion of the family and loved ones; the fourth scene represents the Home Coming of the father from work, where a little tot has been watching and waiting, and runs to meet him. The whole design of the title page is then surrounded by a border of differently designed medallions, on which appears the names of all the States of the Union, making without a doubt, the most unique and attractive title page ever conceived for a piece of music. One thing Paull mastered early in his career was the art of overstatement! Musically, this march is beginning to show the repetitiveness of many of Paull's works, especially evident as time passed. Once Paull found the formula (a fabulous cover and a playable, rousing march) that sold music, he stuck with it and was quite successful as a result. This arrangement is for Full Concert Band with the original optional piano part ( Not on the score). There are parts for Trombones 1 and 2 in TC and BC as well as parts of Euphonium in TC and BC. The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.Grade = 3.5 Duration =.

Too Much For Our Thirstby Alexander BurdissArranged for Trombone and PianoDedicated to Courtney CarmackPerformance Time: approx. 7:00This is an adaptation for trombone of a piece originally written for tuba. The Eyes of the Poor from Paris SpleenWritten by Charles Baudelaire, Translated by Arthur Symons Ah! you want to know why I hate you to-day. It will probably be less easy for you to understand than for me to explain it to you; for you are, I think, the most perfect example of feminine impenetrability that could possibly be found. We had spent a long day together, and it had seemed to me short. We had promised one another that we would think the same thoughts and that our two souls should become one soul; a dream which is not original, after all, except that, dreamed by all men, it has been realised by none. In the evening you were a little tired, and you sat down outside a new café at the corner of a new boulevard, still littered with plaster and already displaying proudly its unfinished splendours. The café glittered. The very gas put on all the fervency of a fresh start, and lighted up with its full force the blinding whiteness of the walls, the dazzling sheets of glass in the mirrors, the gilt of cornices and mouldings, the chubby-cheeked pages straining back from hounds in leash, the ladies laughing at the falcons on their wrists, the nymphs and goddesses carrying fruits and pies and game on their heads, the Hebes and Ganymedes holding out at arm's-length little jars of syrups or parti-coloured obelisks of ices; the whole of history and of mythology brought together to make a paradise for gluttons. Exactly opposite to us, in the roadway, stood a man of about forty years of age, with a weary face and a greyish beard, holding a little boy by one hand and carrying on the other arm a little fellow too weak to walk. He was taking the nurse-maid's place, and had brought his children out for a walk in the evening. All were in rags. The three faces were extraordinarily serious, and the six eyes stared fixedly at the new café with an equal admiration, differentiated in each according to age. The father's eyes said: How beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! One would think that all the gold of the poor world had found its way to these walls. The boy's eyes said: How beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! But that is a house which only people who are not like us can enter. As for the little one's eyes, they were too fascinated to express anything but stupid and utter joy. Song-writers say that pleasure ennobles the soul and softens the heart. The song was right that evening, so far as I was concerned. Not only was I touched by this family of eyes, but I felt rather ashamed of our glasses and decanters, so much too much for our thirst. I turned to look at you, dear love, that I might read my own thought in you; I gazed deep into your eyes, so beautiful and so strangely sweet, your green eyes that are the home of caprice and under the sovereignty of the Moon; and you said to me: Those people are insupportable to me with their staring saucer- eyes! Couldn't you tell the head waiter to send them away? So hard is it to understand one another, dearest, and so incommunicable is thought, even between people who are in love!

In 1986, the Tennessee Dance Theater commissioned the Suite to be performed at Nashville’s Summer Lights Festival. A few years later Edgar Meyer provided the beautiful string orchestra arrangement that is contained in this score. The individual tunes are in various folk styles appearing in a chronological order O’Connor says, not only represents the evolution of American folk music, but also mirrors his own family’s migration from Ireland and Holland to America. It traces the family’s route through the thirteen colonies initially, and then eventually West during WWI nearly 300 hundred years later. O’Connor wrote the pieces in a manner and style he felt his family could have heard along the way. The Suite begins with Irish music, perhaps similar to the music O’Connor’s family brought with them. Then in a thoughtful progression, he reveals music they must have encountered living in early America. Strings & Threads musically describes how folk music styles hundreds of years apart are interconnected – possessing a common thread – from an Irish reel to jazz. The music is suited for advanced and intermediate levels but portions of the piece can be appropriate for beginners. Boy at Sea (2023) for TB choir and piano is great for community choruses looking for something fun, easy, and interesting for lower voices! TB and pianoText: excerpts from a 1915 letter by Robert Inglis to the Commissioner of PensionsDuration about 5 minutesDifficulty 2 (Advanced high school, collegiate or community chorus) Language: EnglishSheet music is available for purchase soon.Performances:8 Aug 2023 Inversion Coda performed Boy at Sea at Spider House Ballroom Austin, Texas (world premiere)Commissioned by Inversion Ensemble for Coda’s Tales of the Sea concert in August 2023, Boy at Sea by Adrienne Inglis for tenor and bass chorus with piano recounts the sea-faring adventures of the composer’s great-grandfather as a boy. The text comes from a letter that Robert Inglis wrote in 1915 to the Commissioner of Pensions asking for a raise in his civil war pension. In providing information apparently requested by the Pension office, Robert details many events in his early years, adding a fair bit of sarcasm and wit to the narrative. The composer edited the content to fit into more of a strophic sea-shanty style. The piano part offers a sense of ocean waves as well as a few popular tunes of the day as commentary on the story. When he and his sister were in boarding school in Cowes on the Isle of Wight, he witnessed a historic yacht race. The following year, they sailed across the Atlantic with the family of their father’s third wife. Life with his stepmother must have been unbearable, because he “went to sea†time after time to escape the unpleasantness she brought to bear. The final departure left him shipwrecked on Hatteras with drunken shipmates. He made his way to Maryland where, to his horror, he witnessed a slave auction. Sensing the tension and possibly inspired to action, he headed west to join the 20th Indiana Infantry. He later served in the 51st Pennsylvania, the Provost Guard, and the U. S. Navy. He fell off of a train in 1863, leaving him injured and in pain for the rest of his life.https://adrienneinglis.com/.

In 1986, the Tennessee Dance Theater commissioned the Suite from O’Connor to be performed as a violin solo at Nashville’s Summer Lights Festival. The individual tunes are in various folk styles appearing in a chronological form for which O’Connor says not only represents the evolution of American folk music, but also mirrors his own family’s migration from Ireland and Holland to America. It traces the family’s route through the thirteen colonies initially, and then eventually out West during WWl nearly 300 hundred years later. O’Connor wrote the pieces in a manner and style in which he felt his family could have heard along the way. The Suite begins with Irish music, maybe similar to what O’Connor’s family brought with them. Then in a thoughtful progression, reveals music they must of encountered living in early America. Complients à une duègnehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo7KQ89pzz4Gérard Souzay, French baritone, said of Jacques Leguerneyâ??s music: â??How does one describe this music which is, at the same time, classic and modern? It is pure, but colorfully nuanced; it speaks to the heart as well as the mind: at times calm; at times witty; wise, yet sensual. The music of Jacques Leguerney is un jardin à la française, both elegant and stylish.â? Jacques Leguerney was born in Le Havre on 19 November 1906. His uncle bought his first piano and encouraged him to study and write music. He wrote chamber works, and took a few semesters of harmony with Nadia Boulanger, who arranged for a performance of his Epitaphe guerrière and Clair de lune in a concert organized by the Société musical indépendante at the Salle Pleyel. However, he decided not to continue his studies. He felt that his gift was natural and spontaneous, and that anyone who understood music should not have to do exercises to learn to compose. In 1928, Jane Bathori took an interest in Leguerney, including two songs during her tour in Argentina, and the following year at the Salle Erard in Paris. In 1932, when his father died, Leguerney took over the family business and stopped composing until the outbreak of World War II. The period extending from the German occupation of France to the end of the 1940s constitutes one of the important periods of Leguerneyâ??s musical life. He began his extended song cycle, Poèmes de la Pléiade, and wrote many songs upon poems of Paul-Jean Toulet. He also continued to compose chamber music, including the Sonatine pour violon et piano, the â??Fantasie pour pianoâ? and the Quatuor à cordes en Ré. An important year for Leguerney was 1943. He met musical colleagues who would become his major interpreters. These included Gérard Souzay as well as his half-sister, soprano Geneviève Touraine; pianist Jacqueline Robin (Bonneau), Pierre Bernac, and Francis Poulenc. Robin (Bonneau) particularly influenced Leguerneyâ??s style. His piano accompaniments were created specifically for her virtuosic and sensitive style of pianism. Bernac observed that Leguerney wrote melodies de pianiste. In 1946, Leguerney created a ballet on the mythological story of Endymion. The premiere was at the Opéra de Paris on 27 July 1949, with choreography by Serge Lifar. The Opéra de Paris immediately commissioned a second work, which was La Vénus noire, based upon a short story by Prosper Mérimée. This ballet was never produced, due to disagreements with the choreographer. Leguerney became discouraged and this situation was to lead to the end of his interest in composing. However, the years 1950-1954 brought Leguerney widespread recognition as he created his beautiful mélodie cycles including La Nuit, La Solitude (for piano as well as an orchestration), Le Paysage, and Le Carnaval, as well as the cantata Psaume LXII de David. Gérard Souzay requested many new works for his recitals and premiered La Nuit, Le Carnaval and

Piano,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1002836 Composed by Kyle Vanderburg. Contemporary. Score and part. 33 pages. NoteForge #6113517. Published by NoteForge (A0.1002836). I spent New Year's Eve 2018 in Nye, Montana, visiting family and friends. One of those friends is an imaging specialist who regaled us with an explanation of his most recent project, which he described as calibrating the moon. Specifically, he was talking about the NASA ARCSTONE mission to calibrate the moon's reflectance to use as an accurate reference, primarily in climate science. The idea is that we have all this data about global warming and atmospheric changes, and a lot of that data uses the brightness of the moon as a control variable, but we don't actually have a precise definition of how bright the moon is. Ever since I was a part of that conversation, I knew that I wanted calibrating the moon as a title, and everything that came after that plays with the idea of moon themes or of doing big impossible-sounding things. When Connor Challey approached me about writing for tuba, Calibrating the Moon was an obvious choice. The work opens with Syzygy, a term describing the straight line between the sun, moon, and Earth that occurs every new and full moon. The movement starts dark and brooding, moves to an energetic middle section, and returns to being mysterious, kind of like a lunar cycle. Fun fact: This movement's theme is actually a tuba setting of the phrase Calibrating the moon. The Second movement, Spectral Reflectance, is slow and shiny. NDSU was fortunate to have portfolio tubist (and Connor's mentor) Sam Pilafian as a visiting guest artist for several years, and I finished Syzygy around the time of his passing. I spent a lot of time thinking about Sam while putting the second movement together, and I quoted a couple of his favorite tuba concerti. The work ends with Libration. If you were to watch a time-lapse video of a lunar cycle, you'd notice that the moon not only transitions from new to full to new, but also sort of oscillates or wags. That's Libration. The movement is likewise off-kilter, playing with the listener's sense of time through alternating time signatures.https://kylevanderburg.com/music/calibrating-the-moon/

It grapples with the unimaginable tragedy of losing a child, the serious concerns about the fitness of the USS Thresher to leave dock for sea trials, the catastrophic implosion of the submarine that killed all 129 aboard, and the communications between Jack and his parents after the Thresher sank. I composed this piece for the five extraordinary voices of VAMP Vocals for their September 2023 concert “Between the Worlds.†The treble voices tell the story and react to the narrative over evocative vibraphone harmonies. In the middle section, the percussionist bangs loudly on metal to sound like submarine pipes, structure, and hull breaking. The loss of the USS Thresher (SSN-593) spurred the Navy to institute the very successful Submarine Safety Program (SUBSAFE). The composer encourages performers to take dramatic license to enhance the emotional impact of the tragedy and the parents’ response. Recording and video will be available soon.Composer websitehttps://adrienneinglis.com/Composer YouTube channelhttps://www.youtube.com/@adrienneinglis.

Hopewell Homestead Sixth Movement from Hopewell Suite for Trumpet Ensemble by Eddie Lewis Hopewell Suite is a trumpet ensemble composition for four trumpets and two flugelhorns. It was composed in 2016 using inspirations Eddie Lewis collected while he was in South Africa for the jazz festival in Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape. Hopewell is the name of the farm where Eddie and his wife stayed most of the time while they were in South Africa. The farm is owned by their brother-in-law. Hopewell Homestead is the sixth movement of the suite. The farm is a traditional one. This is not only a place of business, but a home to the Kretzmann family and my mother-in-law. It is a warm and welcoming home, full of joy and life and......pets.........lots of pets. :-) If you are interested in purchasing the full suite with all seven movements, you can do so at: Sheet Music Plus: https://goo.gl/ry175L (affiliate link).

String Quartet Cello,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1458677 Composed by Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934). Arranged by Stephen Levintow. 19th Century,Romantic Period,Wedding. 6 pages. Cypress Publishing #1037607. Published by Cypress Publishing (A0.1458677). Sir Edward Elgar’s Variations on an Original Theme, commonly known as Enigma Variations, may be the most wonderful musical tribute to friendship ever composed. Each of the fourteen variations is headed with initials or a code name of a family member or friend, with the last one being Elgar himself. The best known variation is the ninth, entitled Nimrod. It represents Augustus Jaeger, Elgar’s close friend and editor at his publisher Novello & Company. In the Bible, Nimrod is referred to as “the mighty hunter”, thus identifying with Jaeger (Jäger), meaning “hunter” in German. The stately and serene variation expresses the depth of the composer’s feelings for his friend, and is often performed separately on solemn occasions. This arrangement is based on the original orchestral score, and Elgar’s own piano reduction, both published by Novello in 1899. Technically it is not too difficult, though with some double stopping to complete the harmonies and for fullness of sound.CYPRESS PUBLISHING is pleased to be the imprint for arrangements for string ensemble by Stephen Levintow. He is a free lance professional violist and violinist specializing in chamber music, who began making string quartet and trio arrangements for wedding, party and corporate events, to expand the repertory or to improve on existing versions. Selections include unusual pieces by both familiar and lesser-known composers, plus standard classical and popular favorites. The goal is to produce high-quality, musically satisfying arrangements faithful to the composer’s original material, yet sight-readable in most cases by working professionals or intermediate to advanced students. The full range of normal string technique is employed, while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity. Melodic material is distributed throughout the four voices where appropriate, to maintain listener and performer interest. All parts and scores are set in Sibelius© software format, with careful attention to legibility and page turns.

This is the famous wedding march from Op. 61 composed in 1842 and commonly performed as a recessional march at the end of a wedding. The piece was originally composed for orchestra then arranged for organ and performed by Mendelssohn himself. Mendelssohn: Wedding MarchMendelssohn’s Wedding March is so popular that it’s difficult to imagine a wedding without it. It seems like it’s been around for eternity. In any case, it was only 150 years or so ago that the Wedding March came about. It was performed in Potsdam for the first time in 1842, as a piece of Mendelssohn’s music for the Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was first used for a wedding in 1858Mendelssohn BackgroundFelix Mendelssohn (1809 –1847) was, by all means, a German mastermind composer, musician and orchestra conductor of the Romantic period. Consequently, Mendelssohn composed in the usual forms of the time - symphonies, concertos, oratorios, piano music, and chamber music. To summarize, his most famous works include his music for A Midsummer Night's Dream, the Italian Symphony, the Scottish Symphony, The Hebrides Overture, his later Concerto for Violin & Orchestra, and his Octet for Strings. His most well-known piano pieces, by and large, are the Songs Without Words. Artistic Standing Musical tastes change from time to time. Moreover, just such a change occurred in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This plus rampant antisemitism brought a corresponding amount of undue criticism. Fortunately, however, his artistic inventiveness has indeed been critically re-evaluated. As a result, Mendelssohn is once again among the most prevalent composers of the Romantic era.Early Family LifeMendelssohn was, in fact, born into a prominent Jewish family. His grandfather was, notably, the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn. Felix was, in fact, raised without religion. At the age of seven, he was all of a sudden baptized as a Reformed Christian. He was, moreover, a child musical prodigy. Nevertheless, his parents did not attempt to exploit his talent.Early AdulthoodMendelssohn was, in general, successful in Germany. He conducted, in particular, a revival of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically with his presentation of the St Matthew Passion in 1829. Felix was truly in demand throughout Europe as a composer, conductor, and soloist. For example, he visited Britain ten times. There, he premiered, namely, many of his major works. His taste in music was. To be sure, inventive and well-crafted yet markedly conservative. This conservatism separated him by all means from more audacious musical colleagues like Liszt, Wagner, and Berlioz. Mendelssohn founded the Leipzig Conservatoire which, to clarify, became a defender of this conservative viewpoint.Mature AdulthoodSchumann notably wrote that Mendelssohn was the Mozart of the nineteenth century, the most brilliant musician, the one who most clearly sees through the contradictions of the age and for the first time reconciles them. This observation points to a couple of features in particular that illustrate Mendelssohn's works and his artistic procedure.Musical FeaturesIn the first place, his musical style was fixed in his methodical mastery of the style of preceding masters. This being said, he certainly recognized and even developed early romanticism from the music of Beethoven and Weber. Secondly, it indicates that Mendelssohn sought to strengthen his inherited musical legacy rather than to exchange it with new forms and styles or replace it with exotic orchestration. Consequently, he diverged his contemporaries in the romantic period, such as Wagner, Berlioz, and Liszt. Mendelssohn revered Liszt's virtuosity at the keyboard but found his musi.
