Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com<br> <br> Contact Publisher Related Scores

CONJUNCTION: The Christmas Star of 2020

Full Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.976734 Composed by Robert Myers. 20th Century,Christmas,Contemporary. Score and parts. 99 pages. WheatMyer Music #6496769. Published by WheatMyer Music (A0.976734). CONJUNCTION interprets the convergence of Jupiter and Saturn near the end of the year 2020 as a celestial metaphor for the good news of Christ's birth in a replay of the Star of Bethlehem. Hence, its subtitle of The Christmas Star of 2020. The music, along with narration from selected Old and New Testament scriptures, delivers a message of hope amid the turmoil and chaos of current times. It's written for smaller concert bands hungry for challenging music. Ample cues and doubling allow for flexible instrumentation while mixed meters, varying tempos and textures, and interesting solo lines provide opportunities for strong players to shine. CONJUNCTION is also available with strings for orchestra.PROGRAM NOTES:2020 is widely characterized for its maladies: murders, burning cities, riots, a pandemic, economic shocks, and political turmoil. For some of us, it also held personal tragedy such as my brother’s passing from COVID. But, 2020 also brought a sign of hope, namely the celestial phenomenon known as the Great Conjunction of 2020. For earth-bound observers, this was the closest approach of Jupiter and Saturn in almost 400 years as they appeared to almost touch in the early evening sky to produce the most brilliant evening star of our lifetimes. The occurrence of the event in November-December neatly coincided with the Advent season, peaking just before Christmas Day. One could hardly fail to note the parallels with the Christmas star of Matthew’s gospel which gave the conjunction its alternate name, the Christmas Star of 2020. Thus, this star spoke, to those with ears to hear, the same message the prophet Isaiah wrote about the coming Messiah, The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. This star thus served to remind us that the LORD has not rejected us; He will show His favor again; His love has not vanished; His promises have not failed; He has not forgotten to be merciful or compassionate; and we are called to remember His mighty deeds (Psalm 77). CONJUNCTION: The Christmas Star of 2020 is inspired by these particulars. For the music, I looked to Gustav Holst’s The Planets for themes that would portray Jupiter and Saturn’s pas de deux. I selected several motives from the corresponding movements mixed and matched in sometimes easily recognized quotations and other times in heavily camouflaged derivations. An exuberant polyphonic passage recaps themes from both Jupiter and Saturn when the music resolves from uncertainty into hopefulness. While Holst’s motives provide CONJUNCTION’s foundation I also used Handel’s Messiah for transitory and climactic material. You will hear his The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light in transitions and a short trombone solo. And a re-harmonization of the opening line from For unto us a child is born brings the music to a joyous climax.Although the music stands firmly on its own, I elected to incorporate some narrative to make the musical sentiment explicit. In a commentary on 2020’s grim events, I took adaptations of Habakkuk 1:2-4 and 2 Tim 3:1-4 and set them over Saturn’s plodding and ominous harmonies. Contrasting replies shimmer with hope as the narration melds Isaiah 9:2 and Luke 1:78-79 over another Saturn motive set against pitch sets from Jupiter’s main hymn theme. Still, it’s the music that tells the story of the Christmas Star of 2020.Please visit my website for a complete score preview: https://wheatmyermusic.com/conjunction-the-christmas-star-of-2020I feel somewhat guilty making claim to this music as almost all the building blocks are taken from other composers. But the end result is neither a medley, nor an arrangement, rather it is something clearly new, so I call it my own with deep respect to those giants on whose shoulders I stand.Robert MyersS.D.G.

The Sundials
Piano Trio,String Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.1004152 Composed by Matthew S…
(+)
Piano Trio,String Ensemble - Digital Download SKU: A0.1004152 Composed by Matthew Scott Phillips. Contemporary. Score and parts. 98 pages. Matthew Scott Phillips #5800833. Published by Matthew Scott Phillips (A0.1004152). Throughout the centuries, civilizations have used sundials to tell time. This instrument consists of a gnomon (Greek for knower), a long pole or incline, whose shadow is cast onto a flat stone or metal plate, that either lies on the ground or is erected onto a wall. This plate is marked with the hours of the day, and the gnomon's shadow passes over the marks. More than just an ancient timepiece, these instruments are doorways to the eternal past, and prophets of the eternal future. They bare witness to the infinite fleeting-ness of the lives of human beings. Unlike a modern watch or digital clock, in which every second enjoys its own momentary significance, the hours as marked by the sundial flow into one another in a continuous stream, that is ultimately timeless. The final hour of any mortal creature is, in this way, no more significant than the first, and all our hours seem insignificant in the context of the cosmos' grandness. Etched upon a great many sundials, in Greek, Latin, English, German, or French, is a motto designed to inspire human beings to consider these truths. Why so many sundial makers felt the need to inscribe on their creations their own philosophies and musings is unclear. Yet, each of these mottos seems contrived to express the contemplations of time and eternity so integral to the sundials' existence. Mottos such as umbra sumus (we amount to shadow) often hold multiple meanings. The we referred to can be the hours, which seem extant only because of the shadow passing over them. Or it can refer to the ephemeral nature of our lives, which on the grand calendar of eternity are so short as to be nothing. Or perhaps it warns that time itself is no more than an illusion; a shadow. Whether they are existential, humorous (I only count the sunny hours), or offer advice (use the hours, don't count them), these mottos are intended to give us pause: to compel us to look for a moment, not at the fleeting significance of our mundane lives, ticked away as they are in tiny hours, but to consider the eternal time that lies beyond us, and to therefore be briefly in contact with it. This composition, approximately an hour long and written for piano trio (Piano, Violin, and Cello), intends as its goal the same purpose as the mottos that inspired it. To transport those who listen to it (listen not merely hear) away from the earthly, and into the cosmic. Each movement is named after a different motto. The mottos, their English translations and the locations of the sundials that bare (or once bore) them is listed at the front. This is one hour, hopefully, that will not simply fade away, but rather will be one spent in the company of the eternal. .

And I sing in a low voice, Until the pain passes and turn, turn-round, how bad the world is Between thoughts and tears, words and music There is Cassandra's vision And I don't know if he can do it, to write about you, you left quickly, And you're perfect in my mind Cassandra is locked up in that room, He hugs himself, tells an existence: Look there, my father and his glass, look at me, the victim of drinking purple bruises, always alone at school, violence continues in indifference, my mother knew but hid everything, the mind that does not hold, and the borderline destroys the spark that was in me, all those dreams of mine and that love that I will never have, I would like to run away but I am chained here, uncontrolled rituals, repeated gestures and a monster closed inside me In Cassandra's vision, she no longer has bars in this room no longer has a body, sex, it is ageless It's a vision but she doesn't know it In harmony with creation, forget the present and the past And the pain comes up and will disappear, It's a vision but she doesn't know it Cassandra does not know, who is about to lose our reality Worn threads Of a fragile puppet He hangs in the balance, embraces a nightmare In his labyrinths, he never finds a way out And pass the margin, cross that limit You feel a flower that Needs no longer has And the wind will follow In front of the mirror, The long hair, Reflect flashes of a thousand crystals You comb them slowly ,, With infinite care, You have been waiting for your love for a lifetime And a carillon that resounds far away, The brush suddenly falls from your hand Because the black man is here, he is already back, He breaks your dream, the charm is broken Cassandra runs among the stars and tattooes them on her skin Bruises and scars no longer has, It's a vision but she doesn't know it In dimensions to explore, How birds can fly Breathe sun, love and freedom And no one will harm you here ... Cassandra stop, Cassandra help me not to regret you Now you can't chain me to you, to your memory that will burn forever Cassandra doesn't know that wings don't, she doesn't Tragic angel who takes flight and then A puppet with broken threads now And time stands still here, like your beat But the vision is mine or Cassandra's, I don't remember anymore, This time changes my perception of the past Faces and names that Time has faded by now And I dance to the ticking of what has been lost souls who are left behind always inside me with their story an eternal tattoo in my memory I shouldn't open that door, I don't want to, but it's the wind that brings me…. and I sing in a low voice until the pain passes and round, round-round how bad the world is ... .. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Contemporary,Multicultural,Patriotic,Traditional,World. 39 pages. Keith Terrett #2941995. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746742). De facto Anthems of the Confederate States of America ''I Wish I Was in Dixie & Taps''- ''God Save the South No. 1'' - The Bonnie Blue Flag, ''God Save the South No. 2'', arranged for Brass Quintet & Percussion. The Confederate States of America (also referred to as The Confederacy or simply The South) had, like the United States at the time, several patriotic songs in use which could have been considered anthems, like Dixie, The Bonnie Blue Flag, and God Save the South, none of which were officially declared (possibly because declaring an official anthem wasn’t as important to a new nation then as it is now). God Save the South does have more of an anthemaic quality in the music and lyrics, and several publications of the song refer to it as a (or the) anthem, and was also the first song to be published in the Confederacy (which was subsequently published in at least nine editions).God Save the South was written by George H. Miles under the pseudonym Earnest Halphin, soon after the war started. Miles was a Marylander, a state that did not officially secede and join the confederacy, but, being a border state, had several citizens with sympathies for the south. An interesting thing to note about the song is the reference to George Washington (the first president of the United States) in the song’s fifth verse. Apparently, the author of the song meant to tie in Washington’s stance as a rebel against the British in the American revolution with the South’s rebellion against the northern United States in the civil war.The music was written by C. W. A. Ellerbock, but another tune by C. T. De Cœniél was also popular at the time as well. (Ellerbock’s version, however, seems to be the original.)For more of my original music, great arrangements and all the national anthems of the world, check out my on-line stores:http://www.scoreexchange.com/profiles/keith_terrethttp://musicforalloccasions.org.ukhttp://www.sheetmusicplus.com/search?Ntt=keith+terrettNeed an anthem fast? The Water is Wide for Viola & Piano

Composed by Traditional Scottish. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Christian, Repertoire, Technique Training, Easter, Lent. Score, Set of Parts. 17 pages. Published by jmsgu3
The Water Is Wide (O Waly Waly)<br> Duration: 5:24<br> Score: 10 pg. 121 ms., MM quarter = 94, final verse MM quarter = 80, common time<br> Solo part: 3 pg.<br> Piano part: 4 pg.<br> <br> A thought-provoking arrangement of a Traditional Scottish Folksong. Probably most widely known as "The Water Is Wide,"<br> it is also well known by it's more ancient title: "O Waly Waly." The tune is also known as " When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "The Gift of Love."<br> This is an original arrangement from the ground up.<br> <br> Programming:<br> If you are looking for something with new contrapuntal and harmonic adventures for a Lenten prelude or a meditation during Holy Week, this will fit the bill.<br> It could also work well in a recital setting because it fits well on the instrument, and provides a chance to show off long, sensitive musical phrases.<br> Some of the figures in the descant verse are a wee-bit more advanced so, this is for intermediate players rather than beginners.<br> <br> Keep in mind these performance ideas:<br> 1. It's a simple tune that needs to unfold in the due course of time, so don't rush it. A slight ritardando at the end of each verse may help if you want to further delineate the verses.<br> 2. There is a lot of interesting counterpoint here, so be prepared to give-and-take on the dynamics more than what I have indicated.<br> 3. The final verse is much slower and more mysterious, and the dynamics are crucial - the quieter the better. Piano - the last chord: take your time on the roll, make it nice and slow.<br> <br> Synopsis of the arrangement:<br> verse 1: Simple quiet duet with the melody in the solo instrument.<br> verse 2: Melody in the solo instrument accompanied by a 2-part canon in the piano.<br> verse 3: Melody in the piano in 4-part harmony.<br> verse 4: 3-part canon on the melody (with a free accompaniment voice).<br> verse 5: 2-part canon with a free accompaniment in the solo part<br> verse 6: Melody in octaves with free bass in octaves; descant in the solo part - loudest verse.<br> verse 7: Very quiet ending verse - Modulates down a fourth, melody in the solo part accompanied by simple quartal/quintal<br> piano clusters over bass chords that suggest submerged church bells.<br> <br> For better insight into the performance of this music: express the emotion indicated by the lyrics:<br> <br> The Water Is Wide:<br> The water is wide, I cannot get over<br> Neither have I wings to fly<br> Give me a boat that can carry two<br> And both shall row, my love and I<br> A ship there is and she sails the sea<br> She's loaded deep as deep can be<br> But not so deep as the love I'm in<br> I know not if I sink or swim<br> I leaned my back against an oak<br> Thinking it was a trusty tree<br> But first it bent and then it broke<br> So did my love prove false to me<br> I reached my finger into some soft bush<br> Thinking the fairest flower to find<br> I pricked my finger to the bone<br> And left the fairest flower behind<br> Oh love be handsome and love be kind<br> Gay as a jewel when first it is new<br> But love grows old and waxes cold<br> And fades away like the morning dew<br> Must I go bound while you go free<br> Must I love a man who doesn't love me<br> Must I be born with so little art<br> As to love a man who'll break my heart<br> When cockle shells turn silver bells<br> Then will my love come back to me<br> When roses bloom in winter's gloom<br> Then will my love return to me<br> <br> The lyrics for "Waly, Waly, Gin Love Be Bonny" from Ramsay's Tea Table Miscellany (1724).<br> <br> O Waly, waly (a lament – "woe is me") up the bank,<br> And waly, waly doun the brae (hill),<br> And waly, waly, yon burn-side (riverside),<br> Where I and my love wont to gae.<br> I lean'd my back into an aik (oak),<br> I thocht it was a trusty tree;<br> But first it bow'd, and syne (soon) it brak (broke),<br> Sae my true love did lightly me.<br> <br> O waly, waly, but love be bonnie (beautiful),<br> A little time while it is new,<br> But when 'tis auld (old), it waxeth cauld (cold),<br> And fades away like the morning dew.<br> O wherefore should I busk my heid (adorn my head)?<br> Or wherefore should I kame (comb) my hair?<br> For my true love has me forsook,<br> And says he'll never love me mair (more).<br> <br> Now Arthur Seat shall be my bed,<br> The sheets shall ne'er be fyl'd by me,<br> Saint Anton's well shall be my drink,<br> Since my true love has forsaken me.<br> Martinmas wind, when wilt thou blaw (blow),<br> And shake the green leaves off the tree?<br> O gentle death, when wilt thou come?<br> For of my life I am weary.<br> <br> 'Tis not the frost, that freezes fell,<br> Nor blawing snaws (snow) inclemency,<br> 'Tis not sic cauld (such cold) that makes me cry,<br> But my love's heart grown cauld to me.<br> When we cam in by Glasgow town,<br> We were a comely sight to see;<br> My love was clad in the black velvet,<br> And I my sell in cramasie (crimson).<br> <br> But had I wist (known), before I kiss'd,<br> That love had been sae ill to win,<br> I'd lock my heart in a case of gold,<br> And pin'd it with a silver pin.<br> Oh, oh! if my young babe were born,<br> And set upon the nurse's knee,<br> And I my sell were dead and gane,<br> For a maid again I'll never be.[4]<br> (Lyrics courtesy of Wikipedia)<br> <br> <br> For more information, please feel free to contact me at: jmsgu3 "at" gmail.com<br> James M. String Quartet - Intermediate - Digital Download By Panic! At the Disco. Arranged by Sarah Cellobat Chaffee. Score, Set of Parts. 21 pages. Published by Sarah Chaffee
"High Hopes" was released by Panic! At The Disco in 2018 as a single from their sixth studio album, "Pray For The Wicked." This upbeat, catchy song soon became a smash hit, reaching number 4 on the Billboard charts and becoming their highest-charting single of all time. This arrangement for string quartet has the exuberant energy, rich harmonic layers, driving beat, and dynamic impact of the original, and it's absolutely as much fun to play as it is to listen to! Great for parties, corporate events, solo & ensemble contests, or even weddings and receptions, it's a guaranteed crowd pleaser and you're sure to get your audience singing along. This arrangement is dedicated to a good friend of mine who was in P!ATD's string section on their "Pray For The Wicked" tour -- Kiara, it was so much fun watching you play this song with them! Rated intermediate, this chart will be playable for students and easily sightreadable for professionals. There is nothing above first position in the V2, viola, and cello parts, and only a few notes higher than that in V1. There are a few tied rhythms in but nothing too complicated.<br> <br> Why choose Cellobat Charts arrangements? For any musician who knows what they're doing, the answer is easy: just listen to them. Every freelance musician has thrown hard-earned money away on questionable, error-filled charts by unknown arrangers from weird corners of the Internet. But watch out -- inferior arrangements not only make gigs less enjoyable to play, but they also make your group sound bad to your client and audience, no matter how great your players really are. That's why Cellobat Charts is here: to provide students and working string players alike with high-quality versions of highly requested music. My arrangements are guaranteed to be energetic, fun to play, and enjoyable to listen to, whether or not you're familiar with the original songs. Hear the difference for yourself! Full videos of many Cellobat Charts arrangements are available on YouTube so you know exactly what you're getting. Click "Watch" near the item details at the top of the page for full video of "High Hopes." Crowd pleasing guaranteed.<br> <br> <br> Sarah "Cellobat" Chaffee earned her bachelor's degree in cello performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music and is now based in Las Vegas. She currently performs with Aerosmith in their "Deuces Are Wild" residency at The Park MGM Theater on the Las Vegas Strip. Sarah is also the principal cellist in David Perrico's Pop Strings Orchestra, a 14-piece band that performs every Friday and Saturday at Caesars Palace, and she plays regularly for Premiere Wedding Music and Bella Electric Strings. Sarah has performed and recorded with many other artists including Halsey, Disturbed, Mötley Crüe, Celine Dion, Kygo, Ricky Martin, Sarah Brightman, Il Divo, and Lady Antebellum. Largo al factotum (Figaro's aria) from Il barbiere di Siviglia - Accessible Accompaniments Edition
Baritone Horn TC,Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1176334 Comp…
(+)
Baritone Horn TC,Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1176334 Composed by Gioachino Rossini. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 19th Century,Classical,Opera,Romantic Period. 13 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #776458. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.1176334). The first of its kind, this is a genuinely playable piano/vocal reduction of Largo al factotum,†the show-stopping first aria from Gioachino Rossini’s famous opera Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville). Most reductions of this aria pose a physical hazard to audition and other collaborative pianists who risk injury by trying to grab every fast repeated note and chord in this extremely long aria, nor do the repeated notes tend to come out properly or sound right on pianos compared to the string instruments for which they were written. With this reduction—which was specifically created to be more ergonomic at the piano and safer to get through on long audition-playing days—pianists may now enjoy playing this aria comfortably, without risking strain/injury. However, it’ll still be a tour de force for the baritone!Note that this score does not make any cuts to the aria; therefore, it is also suitable for recital settings without time limits. All Accessible Accompaniments, including this one, boast several unique features:1. No reduction ever requires stretches of over an octave, not including bass notes meant to be held or “fudged†with the pedal (though octaves may also contain chord tones within them). This reduces the amount of rearranging that smaller-handed pianists must already do. Obviously, further reworkings are to be expected and pianists should feel free to add to or modify what I’ve provided.2. I’ve included less essential, but potentially desirable additional voices/passages in cue-size noteheads so that pianists can easily see them, but know that they are not necessary in a “sink or swim†accompanying situation. Presenting less essential material in cue-size noteheads also reduces visual clutter on the page. 3. In addition to the composer’s markings, when needed, I have included hints on particular notes to bring out when the singer is likely to need them as a pitch anchor or when it is not obvious which line should be brought out within the texture.4. All page turns have been carefully selected so as to result in the least possible disruption to the pianist when possible. 5. When known, I’ve noted alternate cuts that singers might like to take within certain arias. 6. In some cases I’ve modernized spelling conventions for easier readability (for example, by replacing “߆with “ss†in German arias) and occasionally I've enharmonically respelled brief passages for greater clarity. I’ve also replaced some text “cresc.†and “dim.†markings with hairpins, which are easier to see in high-pressure sight-reading situations. About the Arranger: Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo enjoys a multifaceted career as a sought-after collaborative pianist, educational composer, arranger, coach, private teacher, and adjunct music professor. Currently based in the Cleveland area, Ms. DiPaolo has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Ambassador Chamber Players on multiple occasions and as a recitalist, collaborator, and presenter worldwide. Currently, Ms. DiPaolo is an online Adjunct Lecturer in Music at Indiana University; the Principal Theory Teacher at Liberty Park Music, an online-only video subscription-based music school; an invited blog contributor and guest instructor at Tonebase; and a sought-after online instructor of piano, music theory, and composition who includes partimento and historical improvisation in her curricula. For more information, please visit http://ndipaolo.musicaneo.com .

Calisthenics for Treble/Alto Recorder 15 Solo-Etudes, Gallops, Polkas, Variations (notation: treble clef) 15 entertaining solo-etudes: Rondos, Polkas, Gallops, Variations….. all suitable for intermediate to advanced students as well as professionals; as exercises for the fingers, just for the fun of it or as (shorter) concert /contest pieces or encores. What are Calisthenics? You’ve all come across them in one form or another….mainly probably in caricatures of Victorian or Edwardian men in boldly striped sportswear lifting heavy weights or Victorian ladies elegantly waving their arms around(see photo) We found the idea of daily exercises in combination with utterly lovely tunes so intriguing that we decided to call our latest publication Calisthenics The music combines training of speed, thumb technique, interpretation. Short: another great fun and educational publication. The word calisthenics is derived from the Greek, kalos, beautiful; and sthenos, strength; the object of calisthenic exercises being to secure physical beauty by developing the limbs and muscles of the human frame, and making the joints flexible, thereby giving strength and power, and ensuring a graceful carriage, erect bearing, and freedom to the figure. In the words of the old Victorians: The highest refinement of that beauty is unattainable without splendour of activity and delicate strength. Exercise is now recognised to be as great a necessity in woman's education as in man's we are learning that many bodily defects and much of her weak health is attributable to the want of it; more especially in youth, when the frame is growing. Such exercises must, however, be carried out under a system; irregularly conducted, they do more harm than good. The constitution must be coaxed, not strained; the strength not unduly taxed, no over-fatigue ensuing; for exhaustion makes people look worn and old. The exertion must not be too violent, and the health and physical development of each pupil must be specially studied. Early morning or evening are the best times to select, but on no account immediately after a meal. The clothing should not be too warm, nor interfere in any way with the action of the limbs. A musical accompaniment will best preserve the necessary rhythm - the time, four or eight beats to a bar; failing this, the pupils should be taught to sing or count in concert, thereby keeping up their interest and zest. A castanet will, failing better means, help to mark the time with or without music. One of our aims is to revive these compositions and bring them to the attention of players and audiences.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1277132 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 21st Century,Christian,Classical,Latin. Octavo. 128 pages. Adrian Gagiu #868444. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1277132). Missa Solemnis in B major, op. 27, vocal score and piano part (for rehearsal purposes only). Based on its Neo-classical style, this setting of the Roman Catholic mass text could possibly work as a festive mass (missa solemnis) with trumpets and timpani, and its duration would fit such a solemn service. However, its intense and sometimes dramatic treatment and universal addressability due to its well-known and rather concentrated text, yet also due to eliminating the „Filioque†(which would still fit the rhythm of the repeated „qui ex Patreâ€, should any Catholics ever wish to perform this as a mass) make it rather a „liturgical oratorio for all nationsâ€, more appropriate in the concert hall. The work has had a long gestation: imagined in 1984 after the composer’s first contact with Beethoven’s masterpiece, then sketched first in 1987-1989, and many of its themes date back from those years. Its working out is quite polyphonic, discretely modal and cyclical, and also full of centuries-old musical symbols traditionally associated with the setting of the mass text: e.g. unisons for the more dogmatical parts, Baroque dotted rhythms at the Nativity (the first coming of the  King of Kings), „rex caelestis†and also at his Passion (whose setting is discretely inspired by folkloric Romanian laments), the „anabasis†gesture at „Gloria in excelsis Deoâ€, „et ascendit in caelisâ€, „in remissionem peccatorum†and the resurrection, a flute trill standing for the Holy Spirit who has come ’like a dove’ at „et incarnatus estâ€, a cross-shaped texture at „crucifixusâ€, and some word-painting (hushed sonorities at „et invisibiliumâ€, anticipations between orchestra and chorus at „et exspecto†etc.). Moreover, certain symbolic roles are assigned to the instrumental groups when alone (the organ represents God the Father and transcendence, the winds and/or solo voices represent God the Son and humanity, and the strings represent the Holy Spirit). „Kyrie†is restrained and soft, besides the powerful chords opening the respective sections of its tripartite, simple structure, and it leans towards Palestrina’s serene modality and counterpoint. „Gloria†begins with a colorful orchestral introduction depicting discretely the shepherds who kept watch over their flocks right before the Nativity, and then gradually the bright revelation. „Credo†has an orchestral introduction as well, but powerful, recurring and based on the beginning of the plainchant hymn „Pange linguaâ€, made famous by Mozart’s last symphony and by other Classical composers. Both „Gloria†and „Credo†end with extended, powerful and elaborate fugues („in gloria Dei Patris†and „et vitam venturi saeculiâ€, respectively) with dramatic modulations and sometimes with enthusiastic syncopations at odds with the words’ accents, a la Stravinsky. The same sections plus „Agnus Dei†end with soft quartal harmonies suggesting transcendent appeasement (similar harmonies appear powerfully at the beginning of „Sanctusâ€). „Judicare†quotes the beginning of the well-known „Dies irae†plainchant tune, and the Consecration between the „Sanctus†and „Benedictus†sections is represented by a contemplative prelude for solo organ, quoting Lutheran chorales, too. Another long orchestral introduction, suggesting the Last Judgment and based on traditional Byzantine hymns, opens „Agnus Deiâ€, which includes another quotation (the famous ’Dresden Amen’ at „qui tollis peccata mundi†and „dona nobis pacemâ€). In the final section, with its refined simplicity, the choral voices enter in descending order, and the „Kyrie eleison†theme is briefly remembered, then it ends softly and peacefully. Total duration: 50 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is Kyrie.

Soprano voice,Vocal Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799613 Composed by Richard Strauss. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 20th Century,Romantic Period. 17 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #5022029. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.799613). The first of its kind, and the sixth entry in Nicole Elyse DiPaolo's Accessible Accompaniments series of aria reductions, this is a genuinely playable and piano/vocal reduction of Grossmächtige Prinzessin, Zerbinetta's famous aria from Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos (second version, 1916). Coloratura sopranos who love this aria no longer need to fear bringing it in for auditions, last-minute performing engagements, or other situations in which the pianist may have to sight-read from the chaotic and sometimes unplayable vocal score. Pianists may now enjoy playing this aria comfortably, without risking strain/injury.This aria is also available to purchase in smaller sections, as commonly offered in auditions, at reduced prices. They include a score beginning at Noch glaub' ich and one beginning at So war es mit Pagliazzo. To see previews of those sections within the aria, please visit their respective SheetMusicPlus pages. The edition you are viewing here is the complete aria, covering rehearsal nos. 100-130.All Accessible Accompaniments, including this one, boast several unique features:1. No reduction ever requires stretches of over an octave, not including bass notes meant to be held or fudged with the pedal (though octaves may also contain chord tones within them). This reduces the amount of rearranging that smaller-handed pianists must already do. Obviously, further reworkings are to be expected and pianists should feel free to add to or modify what I’ve provided.2. I’ve included less essential, but potentially desirable additional voices/passages in cue-size noteheads so that pianists can easily see them, but know that they are not necessary in a sink or swim accompanying situation. Presenting less essential material in cue-size noteheads also reduces visual clutter on the page.3. When an inevitable page turn precedes a potentially surprising note or chord, I’ve included the next downbeat’s notes in cue-size stemless noteheads at the end of the preceding measure.5. When known, I’ve noted alternate cuts that singers might like to take within certain arias.6. In some cases I’ve modernized spelling conventions for easier readability (for example, by replacing ß with ss in German arias) and occasionally I've enharmonically respelled brief passages for greater clarity.About the Arranger: Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo enjoys a multifaceted career as a sought-after collaborative pianist, educational composer, arranger, coach, private teacher, and adjunct music professor. Currently based in the Cleveland area, Ms. DiPaolo has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Ambassador Chamber Players on multiple occasions and as a recitalist, collaborator, and presenter worldwide. The Iroquois tell a story about seven children who met each day and danced for hours at a time instead of doing chores. An old man appeared to them one day as they danced. He shone magnificently like silver and was clad from head to toe in brilliant white feathers. The old man warned them to stop dancing lest something terrible happen to them. Ignoring the old man’s warning and growing more and more hungry and lightheaded the children began to rise into the air. If only they had listened to me, the old man thought. As the children’s parents gathered, one little boy heard his father’s voice below. The little boy looked down and saw his father. At that instant he fell back to earth. The other children continued to float higher and higher into the sky to become the Pleiades star cluster. The Iroquois call them Oot-kwa-tah and are reminded of these reckless children each time they see a falling star.

String Quartet, String Orchestra - Early Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by Various. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christian, Sacred, Praise & Worship, General Worship. Score, Set of Parts. 60 pages. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications
The Best Hymns of All Time<br> Arranged for Strings by Colin Kirkpatrick<br> <br> Book 1<br> <br> We’re really excited to present our collection of sixty of the best-loved hymns ever composed. The hymns are scored in four parts but could be used with virtually any combination of stringed instruments from string quartet upwards. Book 1 includes full four-part instrumental scores plus parts for 1st violin, 2nd violin, viola and cello/double bass reading from the same part. There’s also an optional but useful simplified keyboard part intended for less experienced keyboard players. The left hand plays only the bass part most of the time, with the right hand part as simple as possible. It could be used as the basis of an accompaniment and means that you can use the arrangements as solos, duets or trios. To make the music accessible to less experienced string players, the range of the notes has been kept fairly low so that many of the arrangements can be played in first position. However, to produce a brighter and richer sound, a few of the more experienced violinists could play an octave higher. You can hear this effect in the audio sample.<br> <br> These arrangements are intended either as stand-alone pieces that could be used as interludes in a service, or they could be used to accompany solo, choral or congregational singing. This is essential music for schools and many churches and contains probably all the hymns you’ll ever need. The score and all the parts are contained in a single 60-page PDF file.<br> <br> Book 1 contains the following twenty popular hymns: Abide with Me (Eventide); All Glory, Laud and Honor (St. Theodulph); All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name (Coronation); All Through the Night (Ar Hyd y Nos); City of God, How Broad and Far (Richmond - Haweis); Fairest Lord Jesus (Crusader’s Hymn); Fight the Good Fight (Duke Street); Forth in Thy Name (Angel's Song, Song 34); Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer (Cwm Rhondda); He who Would Valiant Be (Monk’s Gate); Holy, Holy, Holy! (Nicea); I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say (Kingsfold); Jesu, Lover of my Soul (Aberystwyth); Nearer my God to Thee (Bethany); Now Thank We All Our God (Nun Danket); O Worship the King (Hanover); Rejoice, the Lord is King (Darwall’s 148th); Soldiers of Christ, Arise (Diademata); The Lord’s my Shepherd (Crimmond); What a Friend we Have in Jesus (Converse).<br> <br> The audio samples include Abide with me (Eventide); All Through the Night (Ar Hyd y Nos); Nearer my God to Thee (Bethany), Soldiers of Christ, Arise (Diademata) and What a Friend we Have in Jesus (Converse). The music has been set in string-friendly keys so they are not compatible with the brass or wind publications of the same name.

Small Ensemble Timpani,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.977352 By Louis Armstrong & His Orchestra. By Moises Simons. Arranged by Des McNutty. Contemporary. Score and parts. 12 pages. Des Press #6438143. Published by Des Press (A0.977352). Part of the series A Pulchritudinous Posy of Pleasing Party-PiecesA few fancies for five-part natural trumpet ensemble* with optional timpani. At last: Some new repertoire for the historical natural trumpet! This one-handed instrument was familiar to composers such as JS Bach, Handel, Telemann, Purcell, Vivaldi etc., but was largely neglected after the invention of valves in the early 19th century - and the subsequent invention of the nodal vent-hole systems in the late 20th-century - until recently, when the elusive lost art of clarino playing (in the fourth octave and above) was cracked by dedicated optimists such as Don L Smithers and JF Madeuf. These arrangements are a stylistic departure from the trumpet's golden age of Baroque repertoire, featuring works well known in the 20th century, and provide excellent training for rhythmic precision, style, pitching and team playing. They're also fun, if you like that sort of thing. Advice on tuning up the differently-pitched instruments and a technical tip are included. The current regulations on SMP mean us little guys can only publish in-copyright works one at a time. So, you can collect them all and make yourself a tome! These arrangements were originally written for Lunchtime Tower Music (weather permitting), at the Dartington International Summer School between roughly 2000 and 2010, for courses led by Michael Laird and David Staff. Such performances from the mediæval clock tower involved the various brass and other wind classes playing seriously with an informal atmosphere. Logistical issues, a narrow staircase and the ubiquitous Health-and-Safety regulations prevented the use of timpani on the tower but sometimes larger groups, and those involving vertigo sufferers, played in the courtyard instead. These pieces are the opposite of playing Baroque music on modern, or postmodern instruments. Get them all now and enjoy a refreshing change! Enjoy! DM

Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (Viola Quintet) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (18 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a Viola Quintet, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this selection which are readily available for a wide variety of instrumental.

Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, in addition to this version for a String Quintet, consisting of 2 Violins, 1 Viola, 1 Violoncello and 1 Double Bass, he has made quite a few other arrangements of this sel.
