Published by G. Meredith Publications (A0.1501543). This orchestration is the end product of my book entitled Orchestrational Archetypes in Percy Grainger's Wind Band Music. In an attempt to understand the enigmatic style of Grainger's wind band music, I made a detailed analysis of his recurring orchestrational practices with regard to melody, countermelody, part writing and contrapuntal dynamics. The conclusion is that the Grainger sound is a function of recurring orchestrational techniques, rather than other compositional elements such as melody or harmony. This information was then used to dish up selected Grainger voice and piano pieces in his own idiosyncratic style. I also arranged “British Waterside” and “The Cutting of The Hay” (G. Schrimer). Lord Maxwell’s Goodnight is a reflective, moving piece based on a ballad about Lord Maxwell, who has killed a rival in a long-standing bloody family feud and is leaving for Scotland to avoid prosecution. He bids good-bye to his wife, his lands and his country. Lord Maxwell’s Goodnight appears as Grainger’s British Folk Music Setting No. 42 for high tenor voice or unison male chorus and 4 strings (violin, viola, 2 cellos) in 1904. The original is in the key of F major but has been shifted to Db major in this orchestration. The lyrics of the first verse are: Adieu, madame, my mother dear,But and my sisters three O!Adieu, fair Robert of Orchardstane,My heart is woe for thee, O!Adieu, the lily and the rose,The primrose fair to see, O!Adieu, my ladye, and only joy,For I may not stay with thee, O!.

The song testifies what the Lord sacrificed for us, and how we can live with him, in Heaven, if we only believe. The lead changes from women to men at times. Other times, they're all together. A fun and uplifting song, fairly easy to sing (easy range) for choir or worship team. The congregation will catch on quickly, upon hearing it presented as special music. An excellent song for youth groups. The score of the vocals, piano, strings and drums, and a lead sheet with chord symbols is included. A piano only score is also included. Vocals are often unison, but at times, have two to three parts briefly, for emphasis -. similar to many worship team presentations. However, the song will sound quite good all unison, all the time, if necessary. The music is a tiny bit jazzy with swing rhythms on the eighth notes. Nice jazzy A Men ending. A digital recording of the accompaniment, including piano, drums, and string trio is available under item no. S0.866485. That recording is a nice performance audio, even without the vocals.

She told me that I should write another song called, Oh! My Gosh or Oh! My God. I said I would think about it. Later, I felt as if it was strange to have God's name in the title, so this is the reason why I changed the title to Oh! My Goodness. This is a light, lively song. It is especially for the teen. From ms. 1 to 4, both hands are following the syllables of Oh! My Good-ness with the triads going down from A to G to F and E. The triad movement makes a sound of surprise like a scream. Watch for the coordination between the two hands on ms. 10, 14, 18, In ms. 28 and 29, the same two measures appear again with different fingering. The tempo control on this song is very important. Make sure not to drag or speed up in the middle of the song. This PDF is designed for two sided printing. It is going to look like a sheet music book. They toured the streets of Lima until the first half of the 20th century. Their cries used to be short songs that described the products they sold. There were pregoneros for all kinds of goods, from fruit to potatoes, to drinks of all types. One of the most remembered pregones is the one that advertised a type of sweet roll known as hot revolution, made of sugar, cloves and cinnamon. This piece is based on this tune, mixed with some Peruvian rhythms, like the Marinera and the Peruvian Waltz. In a broader sense, a pregón is an announcement, a proclamation of something good that is coming. Therefore, it seemed very appropriate to me in these times of global pandemic. I hope its light, dance-like character invites people to think of better times to come.

I came up with the lyrics at around 3am in the morning of 3rd December 2014 sitting at a desk in room 703 of the De Syloia Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. Often I find that my periods of working abroad give me the space to think of things in new ways. This song is a good example of that.One look at the first page of the score of 'On That Cross' is all you need to realize that this is not a case of a choir singing with a piano accompaniment. I put the piano part above the choir in order to dispel that misconception. So if it's not that, what is it? I wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to approach a subject from two completely different points of view, without either point of view being compromised by the other, and yet the result can nevertheless be a beautiful synergy. That is what the pianist and the choir are doing here. Each is meditating upon the cross of Christ, but from two totally unrelated points of view and yet somehow combining in a way that is almost hypnotically beautifully. There is little obvious relationship between the choir's and the piano's music; and yet each is reconciled to the other ... and there's a very good reason why I wanted the music to speak of such reconciliation.In late 2014 people in Iraq were being beheaded, crucified and generally killed in the most brutal and sadistic manner possible. Their only ‘crime’ was to dare to call themselves Christians. You can say what you like but in my book nobody has the right to tell anybody else what they should believe, much less murder them on religious grounds. The thing that incensed me almost to the point of incandescence was that the perpetrators of this unspeakable evil dared to justify their actions by claiming that they were acting on behalf of their god. So in such frame of mind I started to write the lyrics to 'On That Cross'.The first words that came into my mind were “Oh men who dare to call on gods to justify your hatred – of this be sure …†and I wanted to follow that with threats of eternal damnation, torture in hellfire and so on. Except that the words that flowed out of my fingers onto my computer screen were not like that at all. “Of this be sure – I love you still, my cross your salvation from all the sin of man.â€It doesn’t get much more powerful than that. I may be incapable of loving the people of ISIS, ISIL, DAESH or whatever one calls them, but my God isn’t. He created them, he sent his Son to die for them … and he is even now ready to save them, as he is you and me. That’s grace.A small group of us sang this at a Good Friday united service in 2016.
