The Versatile Brass Sextet CollectionSuitable for players of all levels (Includes treble clef parts for trombone and Eb bass plus Eb Horn)Suitable as a light concert item, singalong or as part of a Beer Keller SetOom-Pah-Pah is a lively and somewhat risqué show tune with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart and appearing in the musical Oliver!, when it is sung by Nancy and the crowd at the Three Cripples tavern. The word oom-pah-pah is seemingly used euphemistically to refer to both intoxication and fornication; however, as the song points out, the word's meaning is only as dirty as the listener interprets it. Although not an original music hall song, it recalls that genre well and, in terms of both its tempo and suggestiveness, shares characteristics with such late 19th century songs as Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay.In the stage musical, the song opens Act II and does not contribute to the storyline. For the 1968 film version, it was moved to near the end and given a dramatic purpose. Sikes has refused to let Nancy take Oliver out of the pub and, unknown to him, to Mr Brownlow and rescue. He orders Bullseye to guard Oliver while he immerses himself in discussion with Fagin. So Nancy starts the song and gradually works the pub crowd into a raucous singalong, hoping their noise will drown out Bullseye's barking long enough for her to get Oliver away.

Worthing U3A’s Inspired Instrumentalists was formed in 2015 with just 6 members, all mixed ability and wanting to make music together. They now have 36 members, still a very mixed ability group, and includes instruments which are not found in the normal orchestra so arrangements have to be made for them. Since March 2020 they have been in Lockdown and unable to meet. It was agreed that they would continue to make music through a form of distanced learning. They receive an arrangement from me to work on and are given a date to submit their audio file which is then collated into a whole piece for all of them to listen to. This is one of the arrangements they have worked on.

Â Then she starts talking to the flowers, asking them about her lover. Â It concludes with the famous he loves me...he loves me not.... as she plucks the petals from the daisy. Â My arrangement adds quite a bit of drama to the piece. Â I have converted the main theme into an oom-pah-pah waltz and greatly increased the tempo to a brisk concert waltz for the first two verses. Â The B theme, where she talks to the flowers, resorts to a slower waltz ballad similar to the original. Â There is then a brief recapitulation of the oom-pah-pah theme building up to the suspenseful climax. Â I created a lento ending as the answers to her questions slowly unfold. Â This is a great concert piece full of passion and energy that can be dramatized. Â It is also perfect for any wedding today, whether vintage or modern.6 page score; Â 2:30 minutesI have published it in 3 different vocal ranges on this site: Â High - low D to high F#; Medium - low Bb to high D; Low - low G to high B. In this text, the author invites the Holy Spirit to transform her life by opening her eyes, her mouth, her ears. Each stanza ends with “illumine me, Spirit divine!†May that be our motto every day of our lives! The piano arrangement is structured in three sections (one style for each verse). In the first section the hands stay close to the middle register and the voicing is modest. And the oom-pah-pah rhythms will give it a light bounce that will bring a smile to whoever plays or listens. On the second verse the hands move to a higher register where the music suddenly becomes more delicate. Think of a music box! Lastly, on the third verse we pull all the stops! I took this light and playful 3/4 melodic theme and structured a continuous oom-pah-pah timing. Then I created a development section where it goes back and forth between 4/4 and 3/4. A two octave scalar run bridges to a D.S.
