It isn't i compound or triple metre for a start and the melodiy, which is treated in a very contrapuntal style is very angular and ungainly. The Serenade No. 10 for winds in B-flat major, K. 361/370a, is a serenade by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart scored for thirteen instruments: twelve winds and string bass. The piece was probably composed in 1781 or 1782 and is often known by the subtitle Gran Partita, though the title is a misspelling and not in Mozart's hand. It consists of seven movements.The serenade is in seven movements as follows:I. Largo. Molto AllegroII. MenuettoIII. AdagioIV. Menuetto. AllegrettoV. Romance. AdagioVI. Tema con variazioniVII. Finale. Molto AllegroThe work is scored for 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 basset horns, 2 bassoons, 4 horns and double bass. As each one of Haydn's first keyboard sonatas, this particular Sonata Hob. XVI:8 is written in the light, galant style which was very popular in the mid-18th century. As the Classical sonata takes its origin in the Baroque suite, Haydn named his first sonatas Divertimenti or Partitas. It is believed that this Sonata Hob. XVI:8 was intended as a teaching piece for Haydn's students. There exists no autograph version of this sonata, rather, this sonata has survived in the form of manuscript copies made by pupils of Haydn or by his copyists.

The Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Victor Rosenbaum, did the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 with Mana as soloist. My work, Seven Steps To Heaven, for string orchestra was also on the program. After the concert we all went to a local restaurant for a bite to eat, and Mana asked me if I would be interested in writing her a piano piece. I said, Sure!!! For years I have been a fan of Glenn Gould’s recordings of the music by J.S. Bach. I am also a fan of the keyboard sonatas of Bach’s son, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. To prepare myself for this work for Mana, I delved into the scores and recordings of these two awe-inspiring musicians/composers, in particular the Toccatas and Partitas of J.S. Bach. I wrote the entire work during a three-week stay at the American Academy in Rome, 2009-10.
