Mandolin - Digital Download SKU: A0.1017685 Composed by Gordon Jackson. Baroque,Classical,Folk,World. Score. 16 pages. Gordon Jackson #6498403. Published by Gordon Jackson (A0.1017685). Suite in D MinorThe Baroque period in music lasted from approximately the end of the sixteenth century to about the middle of the eighteenth, culminating most famously in the works of Bach and Handel. The suite was a short collection of stylised dance tunes, sometimes (but not here) preceded by a prelude. The suite typically comprised the dances allemande, courante, sarabande, and gigue, to which others may be added. I have added a bourrée and a minuet. Although this is arranged for two mandolins, other instruments can of course be used. I have added a line of mandolin tablature for those who don’t read standard notation. (Actually, I don’t read tablature myself – I used my favourite notation program, Harmony Assistant, to write the score, and it very kindly created the tablature for me!)As a performer of mostly traditional folk tunes, I am driven first by melody, then rhythm, and only then by harmony. For each of these pieces, the melody came first, keeping to the strict rhythmic imperatives of each dance form. Only then were counterpoints added. In this score, the only dance to be repeated is the minuet. Here, the first time through is played on a single mandolin, with rather a lot of double stopping. On the second time through the first mandolin sticks to the basic melody, while the second mandolin plays a counterpoint. Some may recognise the opening bar of the bourrée; it was inspired by a tune by Turlough Ó Carolan (1670-1738) entitled The Princess Royal. The rest, however, is mine!

Flute and piano - Digital Download Composed by Karl Joachim Andersen (1847-1909). Arranged by Kyle Dzapo. This edition: Sheet music. The Kyle Dzapo Series. Downloadable. Op. 56. Musikverlag Zimmermann #Q54914. Published by Musikverlag Zimmermann
German - English - French.<br> <br> Flutists know Joachim Andersen (1847-1909) as the composer of 188 masterful etudes that have challenged and inspired musicians for over a century. These etudes are his legacy, but they should not completely overshadow his 54 works for flute and piano which include both brilliant showpieces and charming miniatures for the salon. Born in Copenhagen, Andersen learned to play the flute under his father's guidance. He became one of the finest flutists of his day and, as a young man, enjoyed prestigious positions in Danish and Russian orchestras. In 1881, he moved to Berlin, becoming a founding member of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra the following year. Andersen wrote most of his flute compositions during this enormously productive and successful period in Berlin. Though his career as a flutist ended in the early 1890s because of a debilitating tongue disease, he continued to compose lovely pieces for his instrument. Because the location of Andersen's manuscript of Opus 56 is not known, the first edition of the pieces, published by Zimmermann in 1894, has been used as the primary source for this publication. The pieces are not difficult as already indicated in the name, but not too easy because a beautiful lyrical tone is needed, you could even call them lyrical pieces as the titles (In Autumn. The Flowers. Under the Balcony. Serenade. From former Times) are not programmatic but rather the expression of feelings.

Fl. Pft. - Intermediate-Advanced - Digital Download SKU: F2.FM493 Composed by Ernest Tomlinson. Flute and Piano. Score and part. 33 pages. Forton Music - Digital #FM493. Published by Forton Music - Digital (F2.FM493). ISBN 9790570483921.All four of these pieces were arranged for concert flute and piano at the request of his daughter Hilary, who is a flautist. Pourquoi Pas? - This piece started life as a violin and piano piece written whilst Tomlinson was on active service in northern France during the Second World War serving as a wireless mechanic in the RAF. His commanding office was a good violinist and had found a local French family who had a grand piano. Hearing that Ernest was studying composition he was challenged to write a piece to entertain the French family. The piece was named after a local cafe much frequented by the troops. Chadkirk Idyll - Written in 2002, this was originally for recorder and guitar and then rescored in 2003 for recorder and string quartet. Naturally, it works very well for flute and piano so this arrangement was made at about the same time. Ernest wrote On receiving the request to write this piece, the description of Chadkirk and it's history conjured up for me an imaginary picture back in history. The mental image of a small and lonely chapel in the river valley at the base of a windswept hillside inspired the melodies around which the Idyll was shaped. Air - This piece started life as a cello and piano piece and has also been arranged for violin and piano. Linda's Dance - During the late 1950's and all through the 1960's Tomlinson wrote much orchestral music intended for use as background music in radio, films and tv. The piece was part of a suite that was eventually published as his first Light Music Suite. He always found titles a difficulty but his youngest daughter, Linda, was very fond of dancing so he simply called this movement Linda's Dance. The original orchestration was for alto flute but the composer was prevailed upon to make this concert flute and piano arrangement.

Gaillarde (La Rocque), First Book of Dances (Pierre Phalèse, 1571) for Wind Instruments

Small Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522179 Composed by Pierre Phalèse. Arranged by Colin Kirkpatrick. Christmas,Holiday,Renaissance. Score and parts. 25 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #6097857. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522179). Pierre Phalèse (1510-1575) was a Flemish publisher and his First Book of Dances, an extensive collection of dances in four parts, was published in Leuven in 1571. They are attractive pieces and are sure to be popular at any concerts, public recitals or end-of-semester events. During the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the gaillarde (or galliard) was a popular dance and a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I of England. This is the 11th dance in a set of 20 gaillardes in the original publication. The title might be a reference to a French surname (Larocque) or it might refer to the small town on the island of Jersey (La Rocque) in the Channel Islands. From the Middle Ages, the its harbour was a refuge for fishing boats. This arrangement is scored for virtually any combination of conventional wind instruments with optional percussion and keyboard parts. The flexible arrangement makes them playable by non-standard ensembles. The optional keyboard part enables you to use the piece as a solo or duet and trio for mixed instruments. This 4-part arrangement is presented in a single PDF file which includes the Full Score; Part 1 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 2 (C, B flat, E flat); Part 3 (C, F, B flat, E flat), Part 4 (C, B flat, E flat); Keyboard and Percussion. A piano sounds distinctly out of place in this music and a digital or acoustic harpsichord sounds more authentic. Most electronic keyboards have a harpsichord option. The percussion instruments used are similar to those found in elementary school music rooms and two or three players are usually required. Other percussion instruments may be added as desired. Dance music is intended to be fun, and we hope that this arrangement brings you just that.

A Guide to Non-Jazz Improvisation: Mandolin Edition

Composed by Dick Weissman. Country. Acoustic Music. E- book and online audio. 128 pages. Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music #20829BCDEB. Published by Mel Bay Publications - Digital Sheet Music
ISBN 9781610652421.<br> <br> The non-jazz improvisation series is a concept that germinated in Dick Weissman's mind while he was attending music school. He wrote a 15-piece arrangement of the old square dance tune, Cripple Creek, and wanted the trombone to take a solo as part of the arrangement. When the trombonist kept playing a bebop solo that was totally unsuitable for the chart, Dick realized that - in addition to the many musicians who do not improvise - there are even jazz musicians who don't know how to improvise outside the limits of their own stylistic backgrounds. The non-jazz improvisation series mostly includes new original tunes that are intended to show how to improvise in many musical styles, including;* Blues* Country* American folk * Latin-American* World music including South American, Eastern European and Asian * Odd meters (playing in a variety of time signatures)* New Age* Classical * Folk-RockIn short, the books are an encyclopedia of virtually every musical style, excluding jazz. Concert Band - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1343777 Composed by Alexander Borodin. Arranged by John Ivor Holland. 19th Century,Broadway,Classical,Contest,Festival,Multicultural,Musical/Show,World. 264 pages. John Ivor Holland #929284. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1343777). The Polovtsian Dances form an exotic scene at the end of act 2 of Alexander Borodin's opera 'Prince Igor'. The work remained unfinished when the composer died in 1887, although he had worked on it for more than a decade. A performing version was prepared by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Alexander Glazunov in 1890. Several other versions, or completions, of the opera have been made. The dances are sometimes performed with chorus and last around 11 minutes. Themes from the Polovtsian Dances have been used widely in popular culture, notably the 1953 musical 'Kismet'; the most prominent example is the popular standard Stranger in Paradise, adapted from the Gliding Dance of the Maidens, which opens this piece. This great piece, a staple of the orchestral repertoire, would form a substantial showpiece in any concert and important solos have been cross-cued for smaller ensembles.

Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1287662 By James Strauss. By Richard Strauss. Arranged by James Strauss. 20th Century,Chamber,Contemporary,Jewish,Sacred. Score and part. 31 pages. James Strauss #878687. Published by James Strauss (A0.1287662). Strauss and the Dance of the Seven VeilsThe Dance of the Seven Veils is a performance by Salome before King Herod Antipas, depicted in modern stage productions, literature, and visual arts. This dance is an elaboration of the New Testament story of the Feast of Herod and the execution of John the Baptist. While the New Testament does not give the dance a name, the title Dance of the Seven Veils originated from the 1893 English translation of Oscar Wilde's French play, Salome, which included the stage direction Salome dances the dance of the seven veils. Richard Strauss also incorporated the dance into his opera Salome in 1905.The concept of Salome's dance involving seven veils can be traced back to Wilde's play, where he was influenced by earlier French writers who portrayed Salome as a symbol of female lust. Wilde envisioned the dance as an act of unveiling, symbolizing the revealing of Salome's true self. He drew inspiration from Gustave Flaubert's story Herodias, in which Salome performs a hand dance to please Antipas. Wilde initially intended to follow Flaubert's version but later changed his approach. The idea of the dance being associated with veils can be linked to the popularity of veil dances during that time, which were westernized interpretations of Middle Eastern dance styles. Notably, the dancer Loïe Fuller was known for her veil dances. Wilde's play did not provide a detailed description of the dance, but it is commonly assumed to involve a series of veils being removed, symbolizing the process of unveiling oneself.Strauss's operatic adaptation of Salome also includes the Dance of the Seven Veils. Although the dance remains unnamed in the music, Salome's sexual fascination with John the Baptist seems to motivate her request, while Herod appears pleased. The visual interpretation of this scene can vary depending on the production, with some emphasizing its eroticism. Strauss specified that the dance should be thoroughly decent, as if it were being done on a prayer mat, but some performances have portrayed it in a more explicit manner.James Strauss's choice to program well-known orchestral pieces for the flute and piano stems from the technical challenges they present, both instrumentally and interpretatively. It allows the flautist to explore different timbres and a romantic style of playing, inspired by Orchestral mass sustained phrases and intense vibrato found in this repertoire. Transcribing orchestral pieces for the flute presents certain difficulties, such as playing loudly and with a full tone in the lower register or producing high notes that gradually fade away. Despite these challenges, the purpose is to challenge the flute's traditional role and explore its expressive capabilities through this repertoire.

Its diversity reflects the small regional and cultural spaces of Switzerland. Influences from other European countries have also shaped this kind of music since the early 19th century. Polka and Mazurka have their roots in Poland, the Scottish in Scotland. The music has been passed on by word of mouth or has been written down in musicians’ notebooks.Between 1940 and 1960, the ethnomusicologist Hanny Christen travelled through Switzerland and collected thousands of melodies from the period between 1800 and 1960. The musicians played or sang in front of her. Some permitted her to write off their own hand-written dance booklets in full. In 1956, Hanny Christen began to record this music with a tape recorder. It is thanks to her that over 12,000 instrumental dance movements of Switzerland and many other pieces of tradition (costumes, biographies, musical instruments etc.) were saved from being forgotten. The instruments used in traditional folk music vary depending on the type of dance and region. Flutes are more or less non-existent. The author would like to fill a gap with this publication. She has therefore adapted one folk dance per canton from the Hanny Christen-collection* for two flutes. The pieces from the cantons of Basel City, Thurgau and Geneva do not come from this source, though. The melodies from the other 23 cantons are taken unchanged from the collection. The second voice was not always composed quite traditional. The melody follows - if possible - a contrapuntal melody of its own and is directed to the flute (difficulty grade 3 +).The editor, Helene Schulthess, is a flutist with a wide repertoire. She lives in Switzerland. She performs as a soloist, makes chamber music and is active as a music teacher. She is involved in various musical projects (www.helene-schulthess.ch).* Swiss Folk Music Collection. The dance music of Switzerland of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. From the estate of Hanny Christen. Edited by Fabian Müller under the auspices of the Society for Folk Music in Switzerland (GVS/SMPS). Music print. Mülirad, Zürich 2002.

Published by Chorister's Guild - Digital (C7.CGB290). UPC: 749193007945.Using the text of a beautiful poem by Shirley Erena Murray, this anthem for intergenerational choirs (children, youth, and adults) features a gently flowing melody that later joins a secondary tune. The piece culminates as both melodies occur simultaneously, leading to a quiet, reflective ending. Adult singers can be substituted in the absence of children and youth choirs. This anthem was commissioned by Choristers Guild for the 2002 Choristers Guild Summer Seminars in Kansas City, Missouri and Grand Rapids, Michigan. Handbell part is AGEHR Level 2+. Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1133711 By Various. By Anonymous, Giorgio Mainerio, Michael Praetorius, Pierre Attaignant, Pierre Certon, Pierre Phalese, and Tielman Susato. Arranged by Alastair Lodge. Early Music,Folk,Historic,Medieval,Renaissance. 50 pages. Wold Meridian #733808. Published by Wold Meridian (A0.1133711). This is a companion to my earlier volume Chording to the Dance Masters which presented 44 of my favourite Renaissance Dance band tunes and arranged them as a single melody line with chords derived from the original harmony lines. In this volume I have reunited 22 of the pieces with the lower parts in the score, so that with more collaborators, the fullness of the original arrangement can be heard. The chords are still present, so if the ensemble is short handed, and lines are missing, the arrangements will still work. What is more, by contrasting the melody and chords with the full scoring, it should be possible to work some light and shade into performances. You can hear all the pieces and their chords on YouTube together with contemporary art and historical background material:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYRWH2nycMkMoIoEYEMVPa_EXY6NVDpNSAs a help to those less confident in playing harmony lines, I have provided links to playlists of videos online for each part of each piece. You will hear the selected line on its own with chords and percussion, with the melody line added on repeats. The final repeat includes the other harmony lines, but the featured line is slightly louder in the mix. The performance starts with a percussion beat introduction to set the tempo.Who were the Publishers and the Dance Masters? What did they do? Sometime around the 1500s, the popularity of dance music exploded in Europe. Dance Masters were collecting chansons and dance tunes from courts and rural parts and were teaching these to new audiences, spreading their arrangements and reflecting the performance styles of the areas from which they had collected the tunes. Publishers were able to take these tunes that were becoming known across the regions and nations and spread them even more widely, thanks to technological innovations in music printing which made it quicker and therefore cheaper to produce collections of these dances in four or more parts. These publishers were often highly accomplished composers in their own right, who were both able to provide distinctive harmony lines and compose new tunes in the style of their sources, feeding the courts with enduring tunes. Composers and printers of this time would often use note values that are double the length of those we would be used to seeing today, and so to make this version more readable, breves have become semibreves or whole notes, semibreves have become minims or half notes and so on. Working with this publication For those just starting out in Early Music, the volume is an ideal introduction, since the ensemble can build from a soloist with accompaniment with the chords alone, and parts can be added in as additional musicians become available. Instrumentation for these pieces was not specified in the original prints. The range of each part is quite limited, and though the harmonies may seem strange at times, key signatures are kind to the less experienced musician. If enthusiasm takes hold, then reproductions of early music instruments are sold by some very talented makers, as well as coming up on auction sites. Otherwise, it is possible to put together a fairly convincing ensemble with recorders, violins, a cello and mandolins, bouzoukis, flutes or guitars and gradually introduce the authentic instruments as they become available.

Large Ensemble Alto Saxophone,Baritone Saxophone,Bass Guitar,Clarinet,Drums,Flute,Piano,Tenor Saxophone - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.876447 Composed by Joe Procopio. Dance,Jazz,Pop. Score and parts. 24 pages. JoeCopio Music LLC #53323. Published by JoeCopio Music LLC (A0.876447). LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) Back to School 2015 From PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES by Joe Procopio LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) is a delightful Latin flavored dance that was inspired by Little Miss Lilly who could tumble on command all by her big self when she was only 15 months old. When I first saw her dance and tumble at such a young age, I was so moved that I wrote this piece to celebrate her ability to amaze everyone with her dancing and tumbling. LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) was originally written and arranged for a small ensemble, band, stage band or combo with flexible instrumentation so that it may be performed with only two Saxophones (Alto Sax I and Alto Sax II) and a standard backup with Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums. In addition, any combo may be augmented by adding any or all of the parts included for Flute, Clarinet, Tenor Sax, and Baritone Sax. This flexible or variable instrumentation of LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) makes it unique and perfect for schools and colleges that do not have a permanent roster of music students entering their music programs annually. It also eases the burden for Directors searching for good music to perform for groups with ever changing numbers of music students. What’s more, LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) has a section open for solos to enable the ensemble to feature players who can improvise well enhancing not only the group’s enjoyment but also everyone’s listening pleasure. This piece is composed in the same style of the other dances in the set - all of which have been performed by College and High School students in many major concert events along the East Coast with great success. It is published separately and in a set entitled PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES PART 1 from the sets PAPA’S FAMOUS DANCES Part I and Part II. Each Part contains 3 Dances. I have adapted the audio here for synthesizer so that it may be previewed. It is one of 6 works named and dedicated to each of my 6 Grandchildren: Lilly, Mary, Lydia, Emma, Joey and Wilson. Instrumentation for LILLY’S DANCE (THE TUMBLER) includes SCORE and parts for: ALTO SAX I ALTO SAX II TENOR SAX BARITONE SAX FLUTE CLARINET PIANO/KEYBOARD - GUITAR - BASS - DRUMS VITA Joe Procopio is a master musician and teacher with proven success for over 50 years.
