For the first time, we are able to offer theatres and interested opera-lovers vocal scores as urtext editions conceived following uniform editorial criteria: * The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition. * For practical use in rehearsal and study, every vocal score includes rehearsal cues and bar numbers throughout. * The publisher has secured the services of renowned musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords. * The forewords are given in three languages (German, English, French). * Uniform and attractive front cover designs with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era underline the series design of the edition. TRISTAN UND ISOLDE Performance directions by the singer Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld are incorporated in the vocal score from the Complete Edition’s Tristan und Isolde volume. He entered these directions into his own copy of the Tristan part which he used at the 1865 Munich premiere. Richard Wagner was deeply impressed by his interpretation of the title role. For the first time in a vocal score of Tristan und Isolde all cuts are incorporated—with the corresponding transitional bars—which Wagner himself made, and approved, in two cases, were actually declared by him to be final. These cuts strikingly document Wagner’s struggle with the final form of the work. For the first time in a single edition all of Wagner’s own suggestions for ossias are found; ossias which evolved from performances under his own direction. Egon Voss writes about this in his foreword to the vocal score: “Such ‘pointers’, as you might say, were current practice in the 19th century which Wagner, as the example shows, did not evade. He was enough of a practical man of the theatre to know that a badly sung top note is worse than doing without it. Wagner even tolerated the transposition of lengthier passages because he was less concerned with the letter of the score than with theatrical effectiveness. [...] The present vocal score goes beyond the Complete Edition [...] in that the ossias mentioned above are indicated in the vocal part itself, in small notes. They concern principally the role of Tristan, but also those of Isolde, Brangäne and Kurwenal. They rest in part on the Tristan edition within the Complete Edition but for the greater part go back to a source which could not be consulted for the Complete Edition because it was not yet accessible. This relates to a vocal score from the estate of the composer Peter Cornelius who was engaged by Wagner as repetiteur at the Vienna rehearsals in 1861-63. That the ossia bars go back to Wagner can be taken as certain, since in some places they are notated in his own hand.†(Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword to the vocal score) The transpositions mentioned by Egon Voss—two by Hans von Bülow for the revival of the work which he conducted in Munich in 1869 and the third suggested by Wagner himself in 1861—are printed in the appendix to the vocal score. The ossias, transpositions, and cuts are available for practical use in the theatre and in rehearsal. The cuts are also incorporated into the orchestral materials for Tristan und Isolde. Published by Songburd Music (A0.1411457). The Two-Part Inventions by Keaton Springfield take their inspiration from the Two-Part Inventions of J.S. Bach.  As students of music become familiar with the inventions of J.S. Bach in the course of their studies, it is unsurprising that they should come to admire and champion these works in music studios and performances. For composers, these works present an opportunity to learn from, model and at times emulate musical styles of the Baroque.  While these two-part inventions are Baroque in nature, musical elements are present that exceed their historical bounds such as the modulations found in No. 5 and No. 6.Performance considerations have been made for the sake of practical instruction, while still retaining a Baroque aesthetic.  For example, typical pieces of the Baroque era are without tempi or dynamic indications.  In keeping with this, the tempi provided in parenthesis should be viewed only as recommended approximations and not as fixed directives.  Liberty is also afforded to the performer and music teacher regarding dynamics, which are entirely absent in the score. Performers are encouraged to seek out their own inspiration on the matter of dynamics and tempi through experimentation and a judicious ear.  The provided ornamentation may be augmented or even done away with entirely depending on the needs and tastes of the performer. While the range of style and difficulty in this collection varies widely, it is suitable for use in music education, worship service, and public performance.  For piano instructors, the following order is recommended to fit a general progressive study: 8, 2, 4, 3, 1, 10, 9, 6, 5, 7, which may be adjusted to accommodate the skills and temperament of individual students.

The text version of Norbert Lammert uses a direct and concise language which reinterprets several archaic expressions of the traditional translation: 'Dein Reich kommt, wenn dein Wille geschieht, auch auf Erden'. Stefan Heucke set the choral parts in major/minor-mode homophony in a deliberately simple way. The organ basically supports the choral setting and expands it rhythmically and harmonically now and then.

English • German • French.The oratorio 'A Child of Our Time' was Tippett’s artistic and emotional response to the events that led to the 'Kristallnacht' pogrom of November 1938. For his oratorio Tippett used as his formal and historical models the Bach Passions and Handel’s Messiah which share with this contemporary morality the subject of the death of an individual set against the universal background of human suffering. Tippett’s use of the spiritual as a contemporary equivalent for the Lutheran chorale of the Bach settings draws his audience more closely into the drama through the spirituals’ ‘unique verbal and musical metaphor’. By 1941, when Tippett had completed the composition of his oratorio, the practicalities of staging a performance during wartime were difficult to say the least. It was, however, through the direct agency of his lifelong friends and professional colleagues, Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears, that the work was first performed in London on 19 March 1944 under the direction of the former Schoenberg pupil Walter Goehr, and with Pears himself as the tenor soloist.
