Tchaikovsky: Scene 10 from Swan Lake for English Horn & Piano

English Horn,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549603 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 16 pages. Jmsgu3 #3513201. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549603). Duration: 2:30, score: 8 pages, solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 5 pages. A well-known favorite masterpiece suitable for a recital or school program. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky is probably the most popular of the great composers in America. His music certainly appeals to musicians. Likewise, it appeals even to folks who don’t normally listen to serious music. This is probably because of his most noteworthy melodies. Above all, he writes with great emotion. This certainly makes a most noteworthy if not an unforgettable impact. Education First of all, He attended classes at the Russian Musical Society. Even more, He also attended the St. Petersburg Conservatory. There he studied music theory with Nikolai Zaremba. He also consequently studied composition with Anton Rubenstein. It seems like Rubenstein came under criticism from a group of Russian composers known as the Five. The Five The Five certainly rejected Western musical influences. They rather sought to use elements from Russian music. They furthermore wanted to use more exotic musical materials. Western Techniques More than other Russian composers, Tchaikovsky studied modern Western music. He certainly develops his music like the European masters. So, rather than repeating a motive, he moves to a new key. He then introduces a different theme in the new key. Hence, he maintained his independence from the Five. Even more, he became the first Russian composer of international stature. Influences Tchaikovsky was probably influenced in his ballet scoring by Léo Delibes. Richard Wagner influenced his symphonic writing. Tchaikovsky’s most famous works include the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker Suite, and Swan Lake. Also famous are the Violin Concerto in D and the six symphonies. The greatest of the six symphonies may be No. 6, the Pathétique. Swan Lake Op. 20 Tchaikovsky composed Swan Lake in 1875-76. To begin with, most noteworthy the ballet failed to attract a positive reception. Over time, however, the ballet became probably one of the most popular of all of Tchaikovsky’s works. The ballet was certainly first performed by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow.

Likewise, it appeals even to folks who don't usually listen to serious music. This is probably because of his most noteworthy melodies. Above all, he writes with great emotion. This certainly makes a most extraordinary, if not an unforgettable, impact. Education He attended classes at the Russian Musical Society and participated at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. There, he studied music theory with Nikolai Zaremba. Consequently, he also studied composition with Anton Rubenstein. Rubenstein was criticized by Russian composers known as the Five. The Five The Five indeed rejected Western musical influences. They instead sought to use elements from Russian music. Furthermore, they wanted to use more exotic musical materials. SATB - Intermediate - Digital Download By Carole King. Arranged by Richard Swan. Score, Set of Parts. 28 pages. Published by Richard Swan
This is the SATB score of the arrangement that I wrote for a lockdown project which I did with my choir, London City Voices. At the time of writing, we've raised over £95K for Women's Aid. It's pretty straightforward, and fairly easy to sing, but it's effective. The altos split for a couple of notes, but it still works with either if you don't have the resources to divide. Piano accompaniment and chords included. You can see many more of my arrangements being sung on www.londoncityvoices.co.uk/media, or you can reach me on @richard_swan on Twitter.

Euphonium,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792469 Composed by Richard Wagner. Arranged by Ralph Sauer. 20th Century,Opera,Romantic Period. Score and part. 4 pages. Gordon Cherry #4988171. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792469). Ralph Sauer has arranged a marvelous song by Wagner, Arrival of the Black Swans or Ankunft be den schwarzen Schwänen for Euphonium and Piano. Arrival of the Black Swans by Richard Wagner was originally written for solo piano in 1861 and first published in 1897. A somber opening is followed by a moving middle section, reminiscent of passages from Lohengrin. This song is in Wagner's romantic style and is for moderately advanced performers and is about 4 1/2 minutes in length.

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1427424 By Josh Groban. By Brendan Graham and Rolf Lovland. Arranged by Richard Swan. Celtic,Contemporary,Folk,Irish,Rock,Singer/Songwriter. 29 pages. Richard Swan #1008150. Published by Richard Swan (A0.1427424). This beautiful song should be sung with a wide range of dynamics for full effect. It's reminiscent of classic Celtic folk songs like Londonderry Air (O Danny Boy), and I've tried to echo some of that sort of harmony in the arrangement. Backing track is available to buy from me if you get in touch. YouTube performance of my choir singing it will be uploaded sometime in the next few months.

Richard Swan #720663. Published by Richard Swan (A0.1119249). Relatively straightforward SATB arrangement (altos optionally split for a couple of notes) plus optional piano part. The piece works very well unaccompanied. I have kept the arrangement to one verse, sung through twice with a dramatic coda and ending. You can watch a performance of the arrangement done by my own choir, London City Voices, in the YouTube link. I have made one or two small edits since that was recorded. I can provide a backing track if you contact me directly.

However, I've added some extra counter melodies and swapped out who gets to sing these. This way, everyone gets to sing a bit of the familiar song, but also some new stuff.
