Nikolai Andreyevitch Roslawez (1880/81-1944) studied violin in his youth, taught violin later and very often even gave concerts himself. The works he left comprise numerous compositions for his favourite instrument: two violin concertos, six sonatas, cycles such as Three Dances (1923) and 24 Preludes (1941/1942) as well as many individual pieces. The two volumes published here for the first time complete the publication of his works for this instrumentation. The different and varied character pieces date from the years 1907 to 1910 and 1930 and show the development of his personal style. Whereas the early pieces are rather traditional, Roslawez' later pieces show his way toward his individual tonal system; the closeness to Skriabin's music is conspicuous. The repertoire for this style is particularly sparse, and this is why both volumes are real treasure chests of character pieces and can be recommended to every violinist.

The pieces were composed individually for different occasions, but they work together somehow and offer the performer and the audience a roller-coaster sensation through the constant change of mood. Danceuphoria is the opening piece, an uneven, powerful dance which immediately creates an uplifting mood. Melodic Sorrow is a piece dedicated to the memory of my father, Konstantinos Nousis. It's one of the first pieces I wrote for guitar as a teenager. Here you can read an evolved version of that first piece which keeps the simplicity of the primary inspiration.Lifeness is an ode to life piece full of rich colors, melodies and harmonies. Meditation, originally written as the theme music for a Reiki Yoga YouTube channel, is a very slow and meditative piece with short melodic legato lines. Hope evokes warmer feelings. It was my goal to write one etude a day and the entire piece was written within a week. Each etude has its own specific mood and character and is focused on a particular aspect of piano technique I was working on in my lessons. I attempted to create in music a lakeidoscope of different colors and atmospheres, which, when grouped together, create a set of short, fun, up-beat pieces.

Arranged standard wind quintetThe Four Pieces for Piano (German: Klavierstücke) Op. 119, are four character pieces for piano composed by Johannes Brahms in 1893. The collection is the last composition for solo piano by Brahms. Together with the six pieces from Op. 118, Op. 119 was premiered in London in January 1894.This is my arrangement of the 3rd piece ,an Intermezzo in C major.The length of the phrase is twelve bars, subdividing into two six-bar sections. The first six bars can certainly be heard as two three-bar units whereas the second six-bar section can rather be perceived as three times two bars. The second six-bar sub-phrase functions rhythmically as a giant hemiola.This rhythmic gracefulness is opposed by the middle section of the piece. Two eight-bar phrases, subdividing into four-bar units, try to ‘correct’ the twelve-bar phrasing.It is arguable that this piece is in binary form and the B section begins at bar 49 where new material appears.Arranged wind quintet.
