The Vancouver Guitar Orchestra asked me to write a piece describing something typically Canadian.The first thing that came to mind was listening to the wonderful call of a loon while sitting around a bonfire; a clear sky evening, on the shore line of a Canadian lake.I tried to imitate a crackling bonfire with a triangle, and the calls of loon conversation, at the beginning and end of the piece. The mid section should show a pleasant atmosphere of simply observing and enjoying the evening in a peaceful manner. A very special thanks to Anna Pietrzak for her inspiration and support for this project.L’Orchestre de guitares de Vancouver m’a demandé d’écrire une pièce décrivant quelque chose de typiquement canadien.La première chose qui m’est venue à l’esprit a été d’écouter le magnifique appel d’un huard en étant assis autour d’un feu de camp, sous un ciel clair, au bord d’un lac canadien.J’ai essayé d’imiter un feu de camp crépitant avec un triangle, et les appels des huards, au début et à la fin de la pièce. La section centrale devrait évoquer une atmosphère agréable où l’on observe simplement et apprécie la soirée paisiblement. Un grand merci à Anna Pietrzak pour son inspiration et son soutien dans ce projet.

Sam Bateman #3075312. Published by Sam Bateman (A0.948105). Sam Bateman a fait cet arrangement en 2012, quand il était toujours à l'école secondaire. (La terminale, pour être plus précis.) C'est un arrangement de l'un des œuvres les plus fameuses de Bach, pour un ensemble qui se compose d'un violon, une guitare et une guitare basse avec 5 cordes. (Si vous possédez pourtant la basse la plus commune avec 4 cordes, vous pouvez jouer quelconques notes qui sont écrites sous la corde mi, une octave plus hautes.)C'est en fait une actualisation - l'arrangement original ne contient pas nuances, puisque Sam voulait rester fidèle à l'œuvre originale pour orgue. L'idée était pour que les musiciens eux-mêmes pourraient décider à quel fortement qu'ils joueraient. Il y n'avait pas legato dans l'arrangement original non plus, puisque, tandis que Sam savait por quoi legato est (pour couler les notes), il les savait surtout du piano - et parce que le piano est un instrument de clavier (et il manque une roue de tangage, contrairement au synthétiseur), un legato vrai est impossible, et c'est simplement émulé en jouant d'un tenuto sur plusieurs notes, alors Sam présumait à tort que le legato ne sois si important. Bien que Sam jouait le violon quand il était un enfant, il ne se souvient pas d'apprendre legato, et c'est seulement quand il a commencé à prendre des leçons de saxophone qu'il comprenait ce que legato signifie vraiment. The mother was unmarried and ashamed and tried to ignore the child as if it were a reproach to her, the child became autistic and unable to react to others. This setting for alto voice, cello and guitar reflect the mood of the poem in all its sadness. The sound sample is a performance by the composer, with Chris Benson on cello. (The guitar's 6th string is tuned to D - much use is made of 12th and 19th (or 7th if preferred) fret harmonics) The pdf file contains score and parts. An instrumental version of the the music, entitled Promenade d'hiver (viola, cello and guitar), is also available on this site.
