Kim Diehnelt #6560423. Published by Kim Diehnelt (A0.809075). Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688 – 1758) was a contemporary of J.S. Bach and Georg F. Handel and considered one of the top German composers during his time. This work has four movements (Vivace-Grave-Fuge-Presto). It was originally for strings and basso continuo; the music is well-crafted and has both a flavor of restraint and seriousness, as well as humor and joy. The Fuge movement is especially enjoyable. It is a refreshing addition to the repertoire for string quartet ensembles who perform at ceremonies, receptions, and other social events. Performance time is about 10 minutes with repeats. The final Presto can be played as a trio (violin, viola, cello). Mvt. 1 - Vivace Mvt. 2 – Grave (2:10 in MIDI recording) iMvt. 3 – Fuge (3:50 on MIDI recording) Mvt. 4 – Presto (6:46 in MIDI recording) This arrangement for string quartet was made at the request of the Hildegard String Quartet in Vermont. As professional musicians who perform for weddings and special occasions, they require high-quality arrangements that capture the full sound, color, and texture of the original work. This early symphony (No. 8) was composed in 1761, the last of a set of three - 'Le Matin', 'La Midi' and 'Le Soir' (Morning, Mid day & Evening). The scoring was similar to the Bach Brandenburg concertos in that the wind players (flute, 2 oboes, bassoon & 2 horns) were treated as soloists along with the leaders of the string sections - except the violas. The musical style however, was remarkably well along the road to Haydn's Classical style. The four movements, Allegro molto, Andante,Menuetto & Trio and La tempesta - Presto which represents a storm. Haydn must have been very pleased with the last movement as he used the broken chord theme which first appears in the flute in his final work, The Seasons, again to represent a storm.The arrangement provides rewarding parts for a quintet of players of advanced intermediate standard and above.

Cantata 156 was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast (72, 73, 111 and 156), it was the last, and the only one scored for solo voice. Like Cantatas 73 and 111, it is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different melodies and choral texts in the second and sixth (final) movements, respectively; the second uses Machs mit mir, Gott, nach deiner Güt (Schein, 1628), which Herr, wie du willt, so schicks mit mir (Binemann, 1582) is reserved for the finale. This version of the piece was adapted for Viola along with a piano accompaniment that comes with the product.

His work as a composer was chiefly dedicated to the violin, including numerous tutorial pieces; he also wrote chamber music and Sinfonia concertante compositions, which were popular in his day. His 36 Capricci (Études) op. 3 are a standard work in the violin repertoire: this piece is No. 14 from that collection and a piano part has been added by Ippolito Ragghianti under the title In Memoriam. This expressive movement should be played entirely on the G string. Edition based on plate no. 02244, first published in 1891 as plate no. 25020.
