The Concertino of Carl Maria von Weber was originally composed in Spring 1811 over the course of three days for German clarinet virtuoso Heinrich Joseph Baermann. It was a particularly productive year for Weber, as he also composed the two concertos for clarinet, a bassoon concerto, and the clarinet quintet, among other pieces. A tour with Baermann from December 1811 through March 1812 performing these clarinet works was a turning point in Weber’s career, after which his music gained popularity and was more universally accepted.Arranged here for Solo Clarinet, Eb Clarinet, 4 Bb Clarinets, Alto Clarinet/Basset Horn/Clarinet 5, Bass Clarinet, Contrabass Clarinet/Contralto Clarinet/String Bass, and optional Timpani.

Arranged symphonic wind dectet (double wind quintet/bass/tuba.Tchaikovsky wrote his Military March in B-flat major (TH 150 ; ÄŒW 52) in the spring of 1893 at the request of his cousin Andrey Tchaikovsky, who was the commander of the 98th Yurevsky Infantry Regiment.Tchaikovsky provided only a piano score, with the instruction that the regimental bandmaster should arrange it for the forces at his disposal. The version published by Jurgenson after the composer's death was scored for piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 4 clarinets (E-flat, B-flat), bass clarinet (B-flat), 2 bassoons + 3 cornets (E-flat, B-flat), 3 trumpets (E-flat), 3 tenor horns (B-flat), 4 horns (E-flat), euphonium, 3 trombones, 2 bass trombones + small drum and large drum.My arrangement has 2 Â Horns in F.The March was published by Pyotr Jurgenson in 1894 under the French title March Militaire, in its original version for solo piano, as well as a full score and parts for military band. The arranger of the latter was not identified.Only the solo piano version was published in volume 53 of Tchaikovsky's Complete Collected Works, edited by Anatoly Drozdov (1949).Further info here.Tchaikovsky also wrote the similar sounding Coronation March TH50.

But I also had a number of players who could move faster and play more challenging rhythms and notes than others. What to do? How about a simple arrangement with flexible part assignments?JINGLE THOSE BELLS! is a super-easy setting of Jingle Bells. The work opens with the traditional unison rendition of the melody, as found in almost every beginner band method book ever written. But then, after a brief pause, the melody is repeated, but now faster and with the addition of a bass line and rhythmic accompaniment. The rhythmic accompaniment is provided by several of your best clarinet, sax, and trumpet players who play the Advanced Part. And if you are short on bass voice instruments, you can utilize the optional bass parts for Alto Sax. Super flexible and a bit humorous, it takes a little score study to realize how adaptable this piece is. Guaranteed to work with your beginners! (PS: the printed music shows Callie May, our cat, as arranger. I gave her credit so my wife could play more than one piece by me at her holiday concerts without looking too biased! Christopher Tin is a contemporary composer who is best known for his choral piece called Baba Yetu.  With an impressive educational background in music composition, English literature, and art history, his compositions come to life with like nothing that I've experienced before. It is simply some of the most beautiful and expressive music I have ever heard.  The Lost Birds is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humans.  Tin’s soundtrack is a fantastic work of art, with its soaring musical phrases that make you feel like you’re flying. The Saddest Noise is a choral piece, with its lyrics taken from Emily Dickinson’s poem, “The Saddest Noise, the Sweetest Noise,†which talks of the relationship between beauty and grief.   The saddest noise, the sweetest noise, The maddest noise that grows, The birds, they make it in the spring, At night’s delicious close.   Between the March and April line That magical frontier Beyond which summer hesitates, Almost too heavenly near.   It makes us think of all the dead That sauntered with us here, By separation’s sorcery Made cruelly more dear.   It makes us think of what we had, And what we now deplore. We almost wish those siren throats Would go and sing no more.   An ear can break a human heart As quickly as a spear, We wish the ear had not a heart So dangerously near.   The Lost Birds soundtrack was sung by the choral group, Voces8, who made the music and poetry come to life in a way that not many other groups could.  It is simply beautiful.This arrangement is scored for clarinet choir – 4 Bb, alto, bass, and contrabass.  There is an optional Eb part to play in addition to, or in lieu of, the 1st Bb part.  This is not a strict transcription - I added moving parts and changed/added notes to make it of more interest as an instrumental piece.  I hope you like it. Duration: 3.5 minutes.
