Published by John Philips Music Service (A0.947280). This is a funky 2 beat built on double (24 bar) blues. It has an optional vocal,( cued in for alto sax) that should be sung thru a megaphone like the old Winchester Cathedral. The title comes from a pattern of speech found only in Chicago where people still say over by here and over by there. It swings well and invites a couple tambourines playing on 2 and 4. This is a fun chart but is very correct musically even if you expect the Blues Brothers to show up when it’s played. It can be opened for solos if needed. Don’t get too serious about the vocal, it’s best with your worst singer, maybe with a clothes-pin on his nose. Enjoy it with your audience.If you want a Maynard or Buddy chart, look elsewhere. This series of charts uses nothing more complicated than eighth notes, are not frantic or screamers, extreme ranges and are hemi-demi-semi-quaver free. They depend on intonation and the players being not intimidated by what he is asked to play. There is no contest to see how high you can go before you need oxygen , how many notes you can play in 9 seconds or before your bell overheats , or how long it takes the audience to cover their earsRelaxed and confident players always play more in tune. Good harmonies, lines and realistic rhythm patterns will produce a good result that will swing and be enjoyed by player and listener alike.

Song of the Jet, translated literally as Airplane Samba) is a Brazilian song composed in 1962 by Antônio Carlos Jobim, who also wrote the original Portuguese lyrics. The English-language lyrics are by Gene Lees.In the biography Antonio Carlos Jobim: An Illuminated Man, Helena Jobim describes how her brother came up with the idea for the song: Tom's many walks from Ipanema to Santos Dumont Airport yielded that ode of beauty... He would head towards the airport, following the water's edge around Guanabara's Bay. The pretext to go there was to buy foreign magazines and newspapers. From Santos Dumont Airport he could observe his passion, the airplane. Yet he still kept some distance from those machines. He was afraid of flying, but he loved their power, splendor, and aerodynamics-man's conquest over machine.In the song, Jobim writes about landing at Galeão in Rio de Janeiro. The airport was renamed in his honor in 1999 and is now called Rio de Janeiro–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport.Jobim wrote Samba do Avião for an Italian film, Copacabana Palace (1962), where it was performed by Jula De Palma and I 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi. The song is connected to a 1785 story published by Johan Gabriel Lindstrom. The song describes how a mysterious fiddler came to the community near Hårgaberget or Harga mountain, and played the fiddle. The youth danced to the tune that the fiddler played and they were unable to stop. Some of the youth noticed a cloven hoof, leading them to believe the fiddler was demonic. Even as morning came, the adults noticed they were all still dancing, and the fiddler still fiddling. Later, the dancers started dropping dead from exhaustion. This original song tells a fairy tail in the style of a Celtic folk song. Both the story and the tune are wholly original and were composed as part of a music production class that Mark participated in during the spring of 2022. This song tells the story of a young boy's adventure in the woods, his skepticism towards what the old folks say, and the results of his failure to listen to them. This piece by Mark R Lewis is arranged for SATB ensemble. All parts get the melody at some point and there are several duets between voices parts throughout the piece. Additionally the accompaniment voices switch between homophonic harmonies and arpeggiating chords several times for increased complexity and interest. The instrumental parts consist of vibraphone, piano, bass guitar, and floor tom parts. Any mellow metallophone would be an appropriate substitute for the vibraphone and the bass guitar part can be played on almost any bass instrument. The optional floor tom could be substituted with any other lower, resonant drum available but should not be a short, sharp sound. All that said, both the vibraphone and bass guitar parts are mostly doubled in the piano or vocal lines so groups that do not have access to those instruments should still be able to perform this piece without concern. This piece is also available for Vocal Trio w/ Mixed Ensemble and the sound files sampled here are from that arrangement. This collection of four short concert pieces for beginners is intended to introduce the new musicians, as well as the audience, to the world of Arabic music in a fun and enjoyable way, and is designed to make the ensemble practice easy and productive. Every piece introduces a scene from Arabic folklore, inviting the little musicians to discover the beauty of Arabic traditions and cultures. In some pieces, the musicians will be asked to perform some simple body percussion, and say some Arabic words, which will add some magic to the music! The first piece titled Dabkeh is a traditional Levantine dance that is still performed at weddings and public events in Arabic countries, in which the dancers hold their hands together and form a circle showing a scene of solidarity and unity. It is a high-energy dance that demands a great amount of physical effort and is usually performed by both men and women. The second piece takes us to a very special period for Arab people, called Ramadan. For a complete month, people enjoy gathering for the Iftar when the sun sets, after long fasting, then attending public events, and organizing cultural gatherings. The third piece is titled Raqsa, which means simply A Dance. The Arabic dance, mainly performed by a female dancer, is full of energy and beauty. Usually accompanied by hand clapping and percussion instruments, and sometimes singing too. The fourth piece takes us to the traditional Arabic wedding ceremonies, which sometimes continue for more than 5 consecutive days. At an Arabic traditional wedding, all the village gathers in the bride's or groom's home, participating in all the details of the preparations for the wedding, bringing food and gifts, and celebrating joyfully with music, songs, and dances.
