It would be great pleasure for the composer if this music means something to those who play or listen to it.Itâ€™s been elaborated on details of playing technique and in order to be performed more easily, itâ€™s been totally rewrote from the original(066). Even 6 parts of mandolin ensemble is able to make more effective sounds with this score than the original. Parts of wind instruments and percussion can be omitted. It was first performed by Keio University at 100th anniversary in2010.

Actually, fantasque in French means fanciful, whimsical or even magical, and the original score is a wonderful set of pieces forming a ballet concerning a toyshop owner who creates cleverly moving puppets. In this arrangement five sections are chosen to make a chamber suite: 1) Overture 2) Mazurka 3) Tarentella 4) Pastorale 5) Can-Can The ballet is full of fun, ending with the puppets seeing off customers who want to separate two of the Can-Can dancers who are in love with each other. Think toyshop and you will understand the marching toy soldiers of the Overture, the dancing dolls of the Mazurka, the hide-and-seek chases of the Tarentella (originally a dance to ward off the tarantula), the cuddly warmth of the Pastorale, and the craziness of the Can-Can! Published by Dacker Music (A0.814731). The music of Paisano Suite was composed in 1982 for the Austin Ballet Theatre on a grant from the City of Austin. The resulting ballet was produced in February, 1983 under the title Ballabile, with choreography by ABT Artistic Director Stanley Hall.This music was originally scored for a small pit orchestra, and it was only in 2012 that it was shortened and re-orchestrated to create this suite for full orchestra. Since the original title is a term used specifically for dance music, and the new version of the work is meant to be a concert suite rather than a ballet, it was also re-titled after the Paisano Ranch, in the central Texas Hill Country, where it was originally composed and which served as its inspiration.The entire nearly twenty-minute suite is actually based on a fairly modest amount of musical material and the eight short movements are thematically all very closely related. The program notes from the premiere read: The pastorale, suggesting as it does the music of shepherds and their pipes, is well suited to woodwind instruments. Mr. Dykins has introduced a lively scherzo as a center section to his pastorale to afford contrast to the somewhat melancholy first and last parts of the movement.
