Piano Quartet - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1329920 Composed by James E. Andersson. 19th Century,21st Century,Classical,Comedy,Contemporary. 35 pages. Sahale Studios #917904. Published by Sahale Studios (A0.1329920). Once there was an oboist who was a member of a chamber ensemble consisting of flute, oboe, cello, and, piano. The oboist was highly skilled; a virtouoso who could ornament without the slighest effort. They were notorious for doing so.One day during dress rehearsal, the oboist, familiar enough with the music began ornamenting and adding stylistic flourishes, becoming increasingly carried away with their part. It finally reaches a point where the others stop playing and let the oboe go completely overboard with a full cadenza. Not far into the solo, the oboe realizes everyone else has stopped playing and stops themself and the rehearsal continues. However, not much farther along, the oboist becomes carried away in their part again, resulting in the other musicians pausing again as the oboist proceeds into another cadenza passage before realizing the others have stopped again. The rehearsal continues, and they all get further along (due to the oboe simply not playing), but when the oboe plays the melody, the ornaments and finesse return in full display, and finally the piano cuts the oboe off. At the slightest hint of an ornament all the other musicians in the ensmeble join in and cut off the oboe. From this, the oboist sinks into low spirits. The rehearsal continues unabated through the next section, and when the oboist enters, they play their part as written, but the ornamentations begin creeping in again. But rather than admonish the oboist the others instead speed the music up into the recapitulation section and for the remainder of the piece and rehearsal they all go wild with flourishes and ornamentations of their own, bringing the piece to a rollicking and lively conclusion.

Woodwind Ensemble Bass Clarinet,E-Flat Clarinet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1256884 Composed by Lon W. Chaffin. 21st Century,Chamber. 71 pages. LCS Productions #850272. Published by LCS Productions (A0.1256884). Imagine a place where cultures are blended and people of all races can laugh, play, sing, dance, and even pray together.  Colores is a musical tale in which children show us how to create such a place.A child walks on to a deserted playground, looking for others.  Another child joins.  They introduce themselves and begin to talk to each other.  A third joins the conversation, then another, and another, until there is a large group of children, creating a colorful, contrapuntal cacophony of vocal chatter.  After the introductions and lively conversations, they pause to decide what to do next.  As would be expected, they decide to just play.  They run races, play chase and tag, catch and kickball, and laugh and giggle until their energy is gone.  Settling down, and wondering what to do next, one child begins singing a tune that is familiar.  …but not to all of them.  So, it’s time to teach the song to everyone. The tune is shared, bit by bit, and one by one every child learns it and joins in.  Before it’s over, their full-voiced singing creates a choral tapestry in which every child adds his or her own color to the musical palette. After a brief conversation, they add their renewed energy to the song they just learned, pick up the pace, and dance.  They twist and spin, jump and swing, making up their moves as they go along.  But, as before, their energy wanes.  This time, as they settle down, one child feels so comfortable with these new friends, he chooses to share his faith in the form of a chant — a prayer. Some join his prayer, as others add a familiar religious tune.  They pray and sing, and their separate experiences combine to produce a stirring, blended chorale.  As they finish, the day ends and they quickly reminisce about the blended experiences that are now behind them.  Before they go their separate ways, they share a moment of gratitude for the place where they can be free to be who they are, together. On a musical note, Colores combines multiple scale structures and varying types of vertical harmonies to give the piece its color palette.  Each of the five voices is set in a different mode, with different tonal centers and sets of accidentals.  The harmony combines both traditional tertian chords with secondal, quartal, and quintal structures. The colors within the music are intended to represent the racial diversity of the borderland from which the composer drew his inspiration.  It is hoped that we can learn from the example of children who talk, laugh, play, sing, dance, and pray together.  …who are grateful for the time and experiences they share.

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1255098 Composed by Ross Fiddes. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 25 pages. Ross Fiddes #848692. Published by Ross Fiddes (A0.1255098). It was in the aftermath of the 2020 summer bushfires in Australia that soprano Ayse Goknur Shanala rang me from Cyprus to suggest I compose a work about climate change, a subject of concern for me.  My research for lyrics did not elicit anything I considered suitable, so I turned to Derek Dowding, a local poet, singer, actor, raconteur, and a person vitally interested in the future of humanity and of the planet.Derek and I had worked together before – he brilliantly performed the role of Abelard in the workshopping and concert performances of my hybrid opera “Abelard and Heloiseâ€, which, in 1997, won the supreme CONDA (City of Newcastle Drama Award)  for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Newcastle Theatre’ against some 200 other stage productions in Newcastle’s bi-centenary year.Derek worked long and late on the lyrics for the work, producing an emotional document covering history, cause and effect.  His words produced musical responses from me which I consider react appropriately to both his words and the subject matter. I hope our listeners will agree. For the musical treatment I had to consider that the length of the work, through-sung, 20+ minutes, required a recurrent grounding to avoid too many thematic ideas getting in the way of the words.  To that end, I created a quasi-reflective section which appears, rondo-style, quite a few times during the length of the piece.  And, for further cohesion, I built an ABA (ternary) section early to address certain word structures.  Mostly, the various sections followed the stanza structure provided by Derek, with some combinations.  My musical style is essentially melodic, but with dramatic and other episodes, be they tonal, astringent, harmonically indecisive and so on.  In building the work I was principally influenced by the impact and flow of the words. The work is quite mammoth for both the singer and the pianist.  I was absolutely delighted that Anna Fraser again premiered a work of mine – in 2015 she marvellously premiered another major composition of mine, reviewed here:  http://soundslikesydney.com.au/reviews/concert-review-the-man-in-the-other-roomacacia-quartetanna-fraser/19830.htmlWe can only hope that the new work ultimately adds to the chorus of warnings and concern about the climactic future that awaits if we continue to ignore or postpone dramatic and urgent attention to addressing the causes of climate change.A living orb cloaked white and blue and greenRevolving and evolving, tight-hugged in orbit flightWe ride her back; dependent, fragile offspring.Suckling all the while …but have we bonded?A world unlike any other world we’ve seenGifted with Water, Air, Earth and perfect Light. The essentials of life. Freely, these gifts she brings.Free for all but how have we responded?                                   Poem© 2020 Derek DowdingRoss FiddesJanuary 2023.

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1411069 Composed by Keiron Anderson. Classical,Contemporary. 124 pages. Songburd Music #993415. Published by Songburd Music (A0.1411069). Keiron Anderson brings us music for the moment, and perhaps no other moment yet in the 21st Century has revealed the vulnerable nature of humanity, and the interconnectedness of our world more than the COVID-19 pandemic, officially announced on March 11, 2020 by the World Health Organization.  The True Heroes is a piece that tells a part of the dramatic story of the struggles, heartaches and triumphs of the world’s medical professionals, and all who were a part of the health care industry to whom this piece is dedicated.  Using a dissonance in the chords, structured upon two perfect fifths a semi-tone apart, Anderson opens the story with suddenness and a pushed tempo that conveys an urgency and anxiety about the growing pandemic, and depicts how the health care workers are not people with super-powers, but rather individuals who are committed to self-sacrifice in using their skills to save the lives of others. The crisis is not over as we reach the middle of the piece where the tempo slows to a more thoughtful pace, allowing the health care worker (and the listener) a moment to rest, to reflect and to meditate, and to give enough time for the emotions to mend and energy to rebuild while the pandemic rages on around them.  Then the music once again resumes its original pace with growing fanfare for the health care worker and their resilience in the face of a momentous task, leading to a more dramatic and triumphal sound and force to conclude the piece.

The Unquiet Grave from American Death Ballads (Downloadable)

(+)
High voice and piano - Moderately Difficult - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8454-2E Composed by David Conte. Secular, 21st century. Instrument part. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8454-2E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8454-2E). English.American Death Ballads was composed especially for tenor Brian Thorsett. We have been frequent collaborators since 2011, when he premiered the complete set of my Three Settings of W. B. Yeats for string quartet and tenor. At his urging, I transcribed and published my Three Poems of Christina Rossetti (originally for medium voice) for high voice, which he premiered at the San Francisco Conservatory in 2014. American Death Ballads was premiered by him at the San Francisco Conservatory, November 1, 2015, with pianist John Churchwell, and at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference in Chicago, July 10, 2016, with pianist Warren Jones. The choice of texts for my American Death Ballads was inspired partly by Copland’s Old American Songs, which I deeply admire, but more by my dear friend and colleague the late Conrad Susa’s Two Murder Ballads. The ingenuity of Susa’s accompaniments for his ballads in imagining anew the original source material owes a great deal to Copland’s accompaniment for his songs. Though the content of my songs is completely original and not based on preexisting melodies, I have tried to expand on this further, as the texts are much longer, and go through many different moods and characters. The four texts I chose include stories about murder, death, and dying. Though two of the texts were written in England, they traveled to the colonies almost immediately. The subjects of the texts had spent time in America, and their stories were well known to Americans.Wicked Polly is a cautionary tale. Polly has lived a dissolute and immoral life, saying, 'I'll turn to God when I grow old.' Suddenly taken ill, she realizes that it is too late to repent. She dies in agony and is presumably sent to hell; young people are advised to heed. My musical setting is stately and preacherly in character for the narrator; for Polly it becomes pleading and remorseful. The Unquiet Grave was brought to the attention of Alan Lomax, the great American field collector of folk music, by English folk singer Shirley Collins. The text is taken from an English folk song dating from 1400. In The Unquiet Grave, a young man mourns his dead lover too fervently and prevents her from obtaining peace. The dead woman complains that his weeping is keeping her from peaceful rest. He begs a kiss; she tells him it would kill him. When he persists, wanting to join her in death, she explains that once they were both dead their hearts would simply decay, and that he should enjoy life while he has it. My setting is in a flowing Andante with a rocking accompaniment. Three voices are delineated here: the narrator, the mournful lover, and the dead lover speaking from the grave. The Dying Californian first appeared in the New England Diadem in 1854. Its lyrics are based on a letter from a New Englander’s sailor to his brother who is dying at sea while on the way to California to seek his fortune in the California gold fields. He implores his brother to impart his message to his father, mother, wife, and children. My setting opens with the singer alone in a moderate dirge tempo, then, joined by the piano, moves through many tonalities and moods before ending with supreme confidence as the speaker 'gained a port called Heaven/Where the gold will never rust.'Captain Kidd was a Scottish sailor who was tried and executed for piracy and murder in 1701. The American connection to this ballad is that Kidd escaped to America and for a time lived in New York and Boston, though he was a wanted criminal by the British authorities and was extradited to Britain, where he was hung at 'Executioner’s Dock.' The lyric was printed in Britain in 1701, traveling to the colonies almost immediately. Though the didactic tone of the text is similar to Wicked Polly, it expresses no regret until the final lines: 'Take warning now by me, and shun bad company, / Lest you come to hell with me, for I must die.' My setting is fast and spirited, expressing the confidence of a man who lived life as he wanted. -David Conte.

Thomas Oboe Lee #431379. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869295). Instrumentation: 3222-4231-timp-2perc-hp-chorus-strings Program note:It has been a wonderful two years of thinking, learning and working on my Continental Harmony Project with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. It is a rare occasion that a composer in the 21st century would receive a commission to write a musical work of such scale: a 40-minute piece for symphony orchestra, 200-plus chorus and a ballet company. At the Bangor Public Library I found some wonderful evocative 19th century texts for the chorus about the city of Bangor and its environs: the Penobscot River, Mt. Ktaadn, the logging industry, the native American culture, etc. At times I felt overwhelmed, but most of the times I was exuberant and quite inspired by the music that came forth in the process. The premiere is less than a month away, and I am looking forward to it. Susan Jonason, Executive Director of the Bangor Symphony, has made the occasion a very public one: a free concert on a Saturday evening! I hope the audience will go home humming the tunes from the work as they walk into the crisp, cool Bangor night.Formally the work is in five movements. The first, third and fifth movements are choral, and the two in between are orchestral. In the premiere, the Robinson Ballet will dance in the orchestral movements. The first movement is about the Penobscot River from winter to spring. The melting of the ice is a harbinger of things to come: warmer weather, for instance; but it has also contributed to a lot of flooding in the city of Bangor and its surroundings. The second movement is a waltz, a grand 19th century ballroom waltz for the ladies of the rich lumber barons. They come to the ball showing off their latest hats and gowns from London, Paris and Milan. The third movement is about the woods and the people who work in them. Thoreau’s text about Mt. Ktaadn is full of awesome thoughts about how nature is beautiful, yet unkind to man. It is followed by a J.G. Whittier lyric entitled The Logger’s Boast. The original song had twenty stanzas to it. I whittled it down to five. I don’t know what the original song sounded like, so I made up my own version of a lumberjack’s drinking song. The fourth movement is a wild, drunken polka. After a long week of working in the woods the lumbermen come back to the city and spend all their earnings on booze, women and gambling. And they dance the night away …The last movement begins with a funeral march for Joe Attien, a native American who was Thoreau’s guide when he came up here in the 1900’s. The work ends with a rousing march, a centennial hymn to the city of Bangor. God bless our city Bangor, now! On this its birthday morn …NB: The two ballet movements, II. La Valse and IV. Drunken Polka, are optional.

The American Seasons (score – violin and string orchestra) MO148AScore (parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor99 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.499760 Composed by S. G. Potts. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period,Standards. Score. 18 pages. S. G. Potts #3512109. Published by S. G. Potts (A0.499760). The Raymond Variations for Piano (Set 1), received its world premiere on 2nd December 2015 at the 1901 Arts Club London, performed by Lorraine Womack-Banning as part of a memorial tribute concert to her late husband Raymond Banning (former professor of pianoforte at Trinity College London). The Variations are based on the three Andantino themes which form a central part of the ‘Raymond Overture’ written in 1851 by French composer Ambroise Thomas: 1811-1896. There are nine piano variations in total; these include a mix of both full and short partial variations (including a very short declamatory two chord introductory variation). The variations are not numbered or set-apart in a conventional manner, rather they form part of a continuous whole, and are separated only by bridge passages and/or cadence points; they last a little under eight minutes in duration, and strongly exploit the passionate elements of Thomas’s themes. They have been written for the most part in an accessible tonal style (with a passing nod to Messrs. Beethoven and J.S. Bach) and are based predominately in the home key of D minor, but they do also take advantage of many 20th and 21st century harmonic techniques where deemed appropriate: e.g. added note chords; cluster chords; percussive chords, and melodic deflection. In particular, the interval of the major 7th and its enharmonic equivalent(s) (the most distinctive interval in the main andantino theme from the overture) is heard in various different guises throughout the variations: this includes its inversion the minor 2nd which has a very distinctive sharp dissonant quality. Much play is made of these intervals – to somewhat humorous effect in variation 8 (the joker in the pack) heard some three quarters into the set, here the dissonant interval is pounded out double forte before hastily leading into some boisterous cluster harmonic instability; then quietly begins variation 9 which duly brings the set to a close. Look out for the sting in the tail!

Instrumental Duet,Keyboard - Digital Download SKU: A0.1497852 Composed by Jenni Roditi. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. 17 pages. Jenni Roditi #1074264. Published by Jenni Roditi (A0.1497852). Piano Duo 2 pianos/4 hands. Curve, Between the Octaves points to a fugal past, where lines enter and build in stately flow. It invites lines to intermingle, without assuming they will all arrive somewhere, or at the same time. A certain intensity builds, then scales, both up and down, free themselves from the discussion of the interleaving lines. The chromaticism suggests curving between harmonies, and is nearly always ambivalent. An assertive chordal climax intervenes to shake off the tensions, yet this peels away into further curvatures that twist and twirl, until a final resting point agrees to present itself. Names of all the movements in the suite Between the Octaves in the right order are Initiate, Surrender, Thread, Curve, Encircle, Ritualise, Ignite. The whole suite follows a long line from movement 1 to movement 7. However, individual pieces are well suited to be played alone too. Piano Duo is ideally two Steinway grands, otherwise, whatever is available. An enjoyment of the tensions and relationships generated between the two instruments: grand-upright, upright-electronic keyboard is to be explored as a positive. Each piece creates its own world in the suite and can be part of smaller subgroups taken from the suite, in any combination, but the order of the pieces needs to be maintained if more than one is played. Here is a taste of the background to the musical world of this 53 minute compositional suite. During a reflective time I read the following: The whole philosophy of dharma art (Buddhist art) is that you don't try to be artistic, but you just approach objects as they are, and the message comes through automatically. (Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, from 'True Perception The Path of Dharma Art.' Shambhala 2008, p.133.) The 'objects as they are' became the 'octaves as they are'. As the pieces were composed the octaves had a centring and clarifying role that allowed other material to circulate around or play against them. They acted as pivots, repetitions, drones, ostinati, pointillist nodes, pedals, melodic features, struts, harmonic turnpikes, breathing spaces, bass lines: musical imperatives. The octaves called the musical shots most of the time. When the music pulled a semitone up or down and away from the octaves (as it did quite often) it was especially telling in the context of the ringing spaces the octaves were creating. I became interested in the subtle dislocation that two pianos could provide. By dislocation I mean a degree of tension between the natural acoustics of the two instruments in the room and the players idiosyncrasies as musicians. The whole point of this work was to examine the nature of my syntax, grammar, and compositional thinking. The title demanded one thing above all: what notes am I going to use between these octaves?? My choice of notes was derived in most instances from the tempo, pitch, and rhythm of the initial octaves at the beginning of each piece alongside the individual word titles that I set out to explore as musical images. The audio was developed from Sibelius software, via MIDI to Logic samples of a Steinway grand piano.

Military Bible Association #1044448. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465850). The History of the Four Immortal Chaplains and the United States Army HymnDuring World War II, four Army chaplains met at the Army Chaplains School at Harvard University. ere, they received training for their assignments in the European theater. They then boarded and sailed on the United States Army Transport (USAT) Dorchester to report to their new assignments. The USAT Dorchester left New York on January 23, 1943, en route to Greenland. She carried about 900 military personnel and was escorted by Coast Guard Cutters Tampa, Escanaba, and Comanche. During the early morning hours of February 3, 1943, the vessel was torpedoed by the German submarine U-223 off Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. As the Dorchester sank on that fateful day of February 3, 1943, the four Army chaplains on board helped their soldiers board lifeboats as they handed out life jackets. When they ran out of life jackets, the chaplains gave their own life jackets to four soldiers that they might live. Then the chaplains joined arms and prayed as they went down with the Dorchester. These were young chaplains, new to the Army, holding the rank of first lieutenant. They included Methodist minister Reverend George L. Fox, Reform Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Catholic priest Father John P. Washington, and Reformed Church in America minister Reverend Clark V. Poling. e four chaplains were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Chaplain (MAJ) James F. Linzey, USA (Ret.), who was one of four military chaplains in his family, composed the United States Army Hymn, “Eternal Father, Hear Our Prayer,” in remembrance of the “Four Immortal Chaplains” on board the Dorchester. Also, James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

Barbara Arens #856152. Published by Barbara Arens (A0.1263171). What are your favourite things about Winter? Snow and frost? Feeling cosy in front of a fire? Having a romantic evening by candle light? Letting your imagination roam to the far north, home of reindeer, endless snowy forests and northern lights? This is what the music in ‘Capturing the Joy of Winter’ is about.‘Capturing the Joy of Winter’ is a collaborative project with the aim of extending and complementing our first book, ‘Capturing the Spirit of Christmas’. It provides a collection of pieces celebrating the winter season. Unlike our first book, which contains arrangements of traditional carols, this book is based on the rich tradition of secular folk music and songs inspired by the season. We discovered highly evocative folk music imbued with the winter spirit from around the world and had a wonderful time choosing just the right melodies to arrange as solo piano pieces. Amongst them are a Nordic reindeer call; a Joik (a hauntingly beautiful form of song from the Sami people of Lapland); an evocative Scottish winter song and an ancient flute melody celebrating the hardy plum blossom.

She was 91 and had been poorly with many different illnesses for the previous 6 months, so we knew it was coming. But the timing and unfathomable sadness of her death, together with the start of a worldwide pandemic, little did I know it at the time, was to bring forth from me a tsunami of music the likes of which I hadn’t written for many years. A set of six solo studies for various members of the clarinet family came first, written between March 20th and April 20th. As I wrote them they were orchestrating themselves in my head and forming something else as well. That “something else†grew and grew, as the Six Studies intertwined themselves around each other and expanded together, joining forces with two brand new themes to form what soon was to become an immense orchestral work. The title was easy. Glastry is a tiny district in the middle of the Co.Down countryside of Northern Ireland, where my Mum was born and brought up. And Pearl was her name. Her full name was actually Margaret Mary Ward (eventually to become Denny when she married my Dad, Colum Denny, from Belfast), but everyone always called her Pearl. The nickname was bestowed upon her just after she was born on February 28th 1929 and stuck ever since. The Glastry Pearl is a tribute to my Mum and the great and mighty person she was to me and all who knew her. It employs at least one theme or motif from each of the Six Studies For Various Solo Clarinets and uses them throughout the work in the from of Leitmotifs. It was only when the work was nearing completion that I began to wonder how to describe it. Freddy Naftel, a good composer friend of mine, suggested that Tone Poem was a fitting description and I immediately agreed. The music itself is completely tonal and highly Romantic, yet also peppered with exciting contemporary disonance. I believe it to be a good, and hopefully fun, challenge to symphony orchestras, both professional and high standard amateur alike. It offers everything from the the somber opening to the hilarious and wildly energetic central Waltz, to the glorious soaring final section, so plenty of variety to please many palates.

Head and Stem #881172. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1290458). BACKSTORY ON “The Dog Had…†Variations The origin of “The Dog Had…†Variations†stems from a frantic voicemail received from the composer’s mother-in-law many years ago while on a visit exclaiming that our dog at the time, Pepper, a chocolate-brown and white springer spaniel, “HAD†an accident of explosive proportions on their basement rug and that we needed to “GET HOME†and deal with it immediately. At first the family was taken aback by the phone message, but ultimately it became a source of hilarity and shortly afterward, the composer’s wife created a rhyme from the message and a tune immediately sprung from that. This tune simply became something our family sung together periodically over many year’s time for amusement until now when the composer came up with the idea to set it to variations for string quartet. In this work, the tune is first heard in simple fashion in its entirety in the viola. Fragments of the tune follow in various guises. For example, the rhythm of the words “GET HOME†as well as “I’VE HAD IT†are prominent thematic ideas used in the piece. There are also a couple of moments where the music sounds weak and demented, but also places where it sounds like a domestic quarrel and the theme is further broken down into fragments. For more information, go to: https://www.danielburwasser.com/To contact the composer directly, go to: danielburwasser9@gmail.comYoutube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@danielburwasser60.
