Whether it was the movie house pianist, in the case of silent films, or the composer of a full score, the musician could, cleverly, portray characters with their individual themes, or leit motifs. The development of the theater organ came about to provide music and sound effects for the first three decades of the 20th Century. The tradition of iconic music themes carried well into radio, television, and in more modern times, video games.Growing up in New York City, I was able to view more than my fair-share of both movie house westerns, as well as TV shows. Saturday mornings were filled with Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid, and Hopalong Cassidy episodes with their own themes. The bad guy had his theme, as well as the good guy. You cheered, or you booed to the one you connected with. Big screen westerns almost always had their theme songs, and almost always sung by Frankie Laine.Western Legends is an homage to the radio, television, and film composers whose scores will always be etched on my mind.

I started off writing this as a Country and Western style piece trying to imitate Floyd Kramer with his hammer on/hammer off guitar style piano but it became more ragtime/stride piano as I went along, but you might still detect a little here and there.I haven't included dynamics, fingering or pedalling and leave these to individual choice. No two pianists agree on these things anyway. I have included chord symbols which I always find helpful when learning a piece. It is stride piano and the left hand can be tricky but it is acceptable to leave out intervals of 10ths and octaves etc and just play single notes followed by a chord. Especially for pianists with shorter fingers.Please note this is just a piano transcription for piano solo and doesn't include notation for the other instruments in my YouTube video. It was written to be a piano solo and sounds perfectly full in that context.

Wimmer between 1991-2007. The original poem is a triolet written by English poet Frances Cornford (1886-1960). She was Charles Darwin's granddaughter. Wimmer set it to music in 1991 while studying songwriting at SUNY Purchase. Sixteen years later, he discovered the three subsequent poems, each written as a rebuke of the original. The collection is dedicated to composer/pianist Roland E. Martin and mezzo-soprano Denise Blackmore who premiered the original song in 1992. The complete song cycle was recorded by the Freudig Singers of Western New York in 2009 on their CD titled, The Phat Lady Sings produced by Mark Custom Recordings #7907 MCD.

The unique aspect of these short hymn-based offertories is their flexible length. When the offertory goes by quickly, as it does in a smaller church or even an efficient larger church, a pianist needs to be able to end a piece quickly, or extend it if there are a few more in attendance. For Solo Piano with Guitar chord diagrams.Traditional dances in ancient Armenia were essential to celebrations, holidays, rituals, social gatherings and more. This medley of Western Armenian music in 10/8 is drawn from the Anatolian song-dance tradition and perpetuated in America. In Sirahar Yem (“I'm In Love”), the Left Hand reinforces the stressed beats within the rhythmic pattern, emphasizing beats 1, 4, and 6. Beats are grouped as 3 2 2 3. Initially, this may be a challenge to play but well worth the effort to expand one’s musicianship skills! While harmony is sparingly interspersed in the inner parts, or created in intervals of 3rds and 6ths, traditionally, the ceremonial/wedding melodies Candle Dance and Hars Oo Pesa (“Bride and Groom”) are monophonic. Due to the mountainous terrain in historic Armenia and challenge of travel between villages, these two dances exist with different melodies, depending on the region. The dance steps also vary by village. In contrast, the use of a sustained note (drone) in the bass clef alters the spirit in Hars Oo Pesa where the key also changes to D major. Whereas the piano has limitations in replicating microtones of folk wind instruments such as the zurna used in an authentic Armenian village wedding, the aim in this arrangement is rather to preserve the spirit of the melody and actively engage the amateur pianist.For more information on Armenian music, refer to : Kazarian, Hachig. She then joined the Spooky Goose Opera team as an online coach/pianist for their Quarantine Concert Series, the world's first livestreamed Zoom production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte (summer 2020), and new opera projects under development. When not on the piano bench, Ms. DiPaolo continues to compose and arrange, and her compositions have been described as very effective with a fantastic amount of intrigue, mindfulness...[and] colorful nuance (Seven Sky Music). Ms. DiPaolo's music has been heard across the world. Along with numerous performances in the Midwest, her commissioned song settings of Muscogee poet laureate Alexander Posey's texts have been performed nationwide, and the Smithsonian Institution procured copies of two of these (Nature's Blessings and A Vision) to archive at the National Museum of the American Indian. Ms. DiPaolo's music also received its Mexican premiere in 2013 with a performance of her Divertimento, written for the International String Quartet of Yucatán. In 2014 Ms. DiPaolo published a set of twenty short pedagogical pieces in uncommon keys, entitled Venturing Beyond, for early-intermediate pianists of all ages, available on SheetMusicPlus and MusicaNeo, and she is currently working on Vignettes, a new set of pedagogical pieces that will introduce intermediate pianists to the Impressionist language of Maurice Ravel.
