The Lady of Spring takes her as an addition to her fantastical garden filled with tales and dreams of the flowers who dwell there. But when Gerde sees the rose on Spring's bonnet she wakes from her enchantment. Her tears spring back the roses who tell her Kai is not dead. She flees from the garden. Gerde grows up in the wilderness and a crow says that he has seen Kai at the Palace of the Queen of Summer. They hurry there to find a magnificent ball in progress. Gerde is introduced to the Kai lookalike but knows something is not right. The Queen of Summer helps Gerde on her way and lends her a coach and gives her a magic red rose that will never fade.As coach searches for Kai, it enters the season of Autumn and is accosted by robber girl and a band of theives. They dance in an rousing, energetic dance taunting her. When the morning comes Gerde tells her fellow captive animals of her quest to find Kai and that all hope is lost. The pigeons finally tell Gerde that Kai was abducted by the Snow Queen many years ago. The robber girl overhears them and has a change of heart letting her go with her reindeer to the far North of the Snow Queen.Gerde finds Kai in the palace of the Snow Queen piecing together the evil mirror. She gives Kai up for dead but leaves the rose of summer beside him. Kai spots the rose and he sheds a tear. This recognizable theme from the 1993 film adaptation of The Secret Garden appears in several different tracks from the score, but most notably in Leaving the Docks and Showing Dickon Garden.I arranged the piece specifically for my 26-string Fullsicle Harpsicle harp, and it should fit on other small harp models with a similar range. But you can, of course, also play it on larger harp models (either lever or pedal), as well.Because the original version was a piano solo, I had to re-organize some of the left-hand chord structures to get it to fit the range of my small harp. But, even with this adaptation, I was able to keep it in the original key (two sharps, so D Major), meaning that owners of Sharpsicle Harpsicle models, and some Roosebeck Pakistani harps, should be able to play this piece, as well as Fullsicle Harpsicle model owners.There are no lever changes or extended techniques, but, at full-speed, the piece can prove much more challenging than it looks at first glance. In particular, I recommend practicing that quick, repetitive Alberti bass in the left-hand with a loose, exagerated oscillation movement to prevent tightness or injury. Also be wary of starting out at a speed that you can't maintain throughout the entirety of the performance. Meteronomes are your friend.Please note that the preview cuts off after the first half-page of score. The inspiration for this arrangement was from Deborah singing Were You There? Acapella in front of the Garden Tomb in Israel. This arrangement is for vocal solo/unison duet plus SATB chorus, acapella.Were You There? is a beautiful arrangement of a timeless traditional spiritual with rich harmonies. The chorus part can be performed with full choir or single voices. At the very end, it splits into six to eight parts, but can be modified for smaller groups. The chorus contains many oohs and ahs until the third verse. A Time to Rejoice! is a dramatic and poignant cantata for children and organ (piano version also available) in which performers and audience embark on an exciting journey through time to witness the events of the first Easter. The time machine is somewhat unreliable, adding humour to the story, and stops are made in the Garden of Eden and Bethlehem before arriving in Jerusalem for Palm Sunday and the events of the crucifixion. It is suitable for performance by schools and children's choirs, suggested age range 8-13 years. The optional second parts greatly enhance the cantata and can be sung by a group of children or even an adult choir.Whilst not a staged production, there is plenty of scope for acting in the roles of the Captains, and props such as tea lights for the opening procession, pilots' hats for the Captains and palm branches for the song The King is Coming.A Time to Rejoice! was premiered by St. Joseph's in the Park School, Hertingfordbury, on 17 March 2023. here are some comments from staff/parents:'A Time to Rejoice! was amazing! The optional second parts greatly enhance the cantata and can be sung by a group of children or even an adult choir.Whilst not a staged production, there is plenty of scope for acting in the roles of the Captains, and props such as tea lights for the opening procession, pilots' hats for the Captains and palm branches in the song The King is Coming.A Time to Rejoice! was premiered by St. Joseph's in the Park school, Hertingfordbury, UK on 17 March 2023. British born Godfrey Barnsley was determined to construct his home on an acorn shaped hill in northwest Georgia despite being warned by his Cherokee neighbors that the land he chose to build on was sacred and that he would be cursed. He built the Italianate style house anyway and sadly many tragedies followed. One was the death of his close friend Col. Richard G. Earle who was killed by a Union sniper in May of 1864 as he rode in to warn the family of the approach of Sherman’s army. Col. Earle was laid to rest in the garden just steps from the back door. Years later the home was abandoned after the roof was torn off by a tornado… it quickly fell into ruins. Today, the lush English style garden and surroundings (but not the house) have been restored to their previous splendor and the site is frequently used for elegant weddings and social events. This musical impression of Godfrey Barnsley’s enchanted garden was released as a single on streaming platforms in July of 2024. The PDF includes detailed fingerings and interpretation in standard notation with tablature. There’s also a version with TAB available on this site. I have converted the main theme into an oom-pah-pah waltz and greatly increased the tempo to a brisk concert waltz. The B theme resorts to a waltz ballad similar to the original. There is then a brief recapitulation of the oom-pah-pah theme, and a soft lento ballad ending.
