Wells (1866 - 1946) published in 1895 The subtitles for each of the six movements are: Part 1 - the Model Part 2 - the Journey Part 3 - the Eloi Part 4 - the Morlocks Part 5 - the Eclipse Part 6 - the Ghost 'The Time Machine' is a science fiction novel by Herbert George Wells, published in 1895. H. G. Wells is commonly credited with the popularisation of the concept of time travel - using a vehicle that allows an operator to travel intentionally and selectively backwards or forwards in time. Ensemble instrumentation: Keyboard(s) - accordion, organ, glass harmonica, vibraphone, piano, toy piano, etc. Flute or tenor/bass recorder Violin or viola or violincello. Wine glass 1 tuned to Bb Wine glass 2 tuned to C - ideally a minor seventh below wine glass 1 Handbells, three players using bows and beaters: Voice or guitar (acoustic, electric or bass guitar) Percussion - Suspended cymbal, low drum(s), whirly tube(s), ‘found’ resonant instruments, plastic bag(s), singing bowl, guiro(s) There is no overall score. Performers (except percussion) play from a series of graphic scores. The percussion parts are written in more traditional notation. It is not necessary for the ensemble to contain all the instruments. If all instruments are available then the ensemble may vary the instrumentation, or omit instruments, for each of the movements, or within movements. The dynamic balance between players should be sympathetic to the forces available. This may mean, for example, that an accordion is muted or sited away from the other players. Effects such as reverberation or distortion may be applied to the instrumental sounds. Variety of expression is encouraged. The narrator’s text readings must each have a duration of under five minutes.For each of the six movements the ensemble begins playing one minute after the speaker. It is allowed for the movements to be performed as single pieces, and without the narration.

The optional second parts greatly enhance the cantata and can be sung by a group of children or even an adult choir.Whilst not a staged production, there is plenty of scope for acting in the roles of the Captains, and props such as tea lights for the opening procession, pilots' hats for the Captains and palm branches in the song The King is Coming.A Time to Rejoice! was premiered by St. Joseph's in the Park school, Hertingfordbury, UK on 17 March 2023. Here are some comments from staff/parents:'A Time to Rejoice! was amazing...the best production St. Joe's has ever put on' Deputy Head.'An absolutely amazing evening! Such beautiful music so beautifully performed. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.808706).     Orville and Wilbur Wright made their famous flight in late 1903; this song was published seven years later: Fred Fisher’s music with Alfred Bryan’s lyrics. The words form a narrative of a young man attempting to get his girlfriend to go up with him in his flying machine. And, that would take much more daring on her part than one might realize today. The year 1910 was still early days for aviation; most airplanes were still made of wood, wire and fabric and looked liked giant gliders. Supposedly, the Josephine of the song was Josephine Sarah Magner, reputed to be America’s first female parachutist. Magner married Leslie Burt Haddock, whose aviation career started in balloons, and made her first jump in 1905. During the next dozen years, she made more than 500 jumps. Pretty daring!    This arrangement is quirky and an absolute delight to play (and to listen to)! The first half is set in the song’s native ¾ time. The takeoff is the introduction, followed by the chorus, then the verse and again the chorus as the melody loops, rolls and spins through the five instruments. A middle section briefly quotes two other aerialist tunes-He flies through the air with the greatest of ease and Up in the air Junior Birdmen-and serves as a transition to cut time. A swing version of the chorus brings us in for a landing and final fade.    The arrangement begins in the key of C major and changes to G major during the transitional section. Suggested tempo is 76 bpm throughout. The arrangement comprises 202 measures: Horn in F plays the most notes, followed by Trombone and Tuba, while Trumpets get off relatively lightly. All notes are well within the normal playing range of the instruments; Trumpet 1 does, however, play A above its staff several times.    Completed in 2021, performance time for Come, Josephine in My Flying Machine runs about 3 minutes, 45 seconds. In Just in Time for Christmas, a group of senior Sunday School students decide that they’re too old to take part in the Christmas pageant. While hiding from their Musical Director, they discover a mysterious machine that takes them on an epic adventure through space and time! Along the way, they encounter a number of biblical characters (including Isaiah, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, the Innkeeper, and the Shepherds) and learn that the Christmas Story is important and real. The musical features a flexible script with parts for every age group, allowing for maximum flexibility with age-range, cast size, and rehearsal time. Each part of the story is followed by an original song sung by the entire cast. Costumes, sets, and props are also minimal, and there are no scene changes, which allow this show to be staged in any space, including traditional church sanctuaries. Just in Time for Christmas features five original songs written and arranged for school-aged children by Joanna Mills. The songs are all set in an accessible range for young children, and feature simple tunes which are easy to learn. This package contains two versions of each song; an easy unison version (some with an optional easy descant or counterpoint harmonies on the final chorus), and a 2-part choir version, which features simple, easy-to-learn harmonies. This allows you to mix and match your arrangements to suit the abilities of your singers and your rehearsal time constraints. For those students who do not read music, the lyrics are included in the script. The piano accompaniments are at an intermediate level and guitar chords are included, which allows older youth to participate as musicians (or allows experienced accompanists to learn them quickly).
