A new set of 3 beautiful sounding Corelli Trio Sonatas for Trombone Trio transcribed by L.A. Philharmonic Principal Trombonist, Ralph Sauer. Opus 1, No. 2 in D major, Opus 1, No. 3 in G major, Opus 4, No. 1 in C major. Each trio of about 8 minutes in length is in a 4 movement structure of Slow- Fast-Slow-Fast. There are many great pure chorale harmonies, plus each 2nd movement has a contrapuntal style to it, which is great for building up keen ears and ensemble sense. These sonatas are of moderately advanced difficulty, in tenor and bass clefs. Endurance is not a problem because of the masterly editing of Mr. Sauer, who is legendary for his transcription skills. These trios can be performed by most College/University students and some keen high schoolers. Range goes from a pedal A for Bass Trombone to one high D for the 1st part, but most of the tessitura is in a normal range.

Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 was completed in 1812 and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Symphony No. 7 was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, directed by Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his “most excellent symphony,†and a music critic of the time reported it as the most melodically rich and comprehensible of all Beethoven’s symphonies.

Johannes Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 3, expertly arranged by American composer P. F. Strohm for a trio consisting of two tenor trombones and piano. Brahms was enthralled with the rhythms and melodies of Hungarian music. He originally wrote his 21 Hungarian Dances for piano four-hands, and loved performing them for his friends. P. F. Strohm has placed the first six of these musical gems into a new setting of two trombones and piano, drawing from the original piano score; from the violin and piano arrangements made by Brahms' friend, Joseph Joachim; and from Brahms' own solo piano arrangements. These new arrangements are for skilled performers on all parts. Written for and dedicated to Mark Kellogg and Larry Zalkind at the Eastman School of Music, the dances are excellent for recitals and contests, and make wonderful encores. It can be freely played by beginning students, because of the ease imposed on the piece; however, this does not prevent it from being played by professionals and music teachers. It is also ideal for academic recitals, student method and ceremonies that are arranged in the same way as the piece contains. The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument.

It is often performed at wedding ceremonies slowly and reverently, challenging the effect suggested by Bach in his original score for voices with trumpet, oboes, strings, and continuous bass. This is one of Bach's most beautiful cantatas, made famous by the Jesus the Joy of Men chorus. It was originally composed for Advent 1716 in Weimar. Years later, already in Leipzig, Advent was tempus clausum, there was no music in the churches. Bach then reworked it for the Feast of Mary's Visitation. It is the final chorale of the cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben. Although it is the 32nd cantata composed by Bach, of those that have survived, it was given BWV 147 in the complete catalog of his works.
