As can be seen from the dedication, this piece is the first violin concerto Mozart wrote in spring 1766 while staying at the French court for several weeks when he came to Paris for the second time with his father and sister after their return back from England. The work probably came into being because the astonishing abilities of the young artist were often called into question and he was therefore set a task which had to be completed in the presence of the commissioner. And this is how Mozart composed this violin concerto for Madame Adelaide of France, the eldest daughter of Louis XV.

They were originally ascribed to earlier composers, such as Gaetano Pugnani, Giuseppe Tartini and Antonio Vivaldi, and then, in 1935, Kreisler revealed that it was he who wrote the pieces. When critics complained, Kreisler replied that they had already deemed the compositions worthy: The name changes, the value remains, he said. He also wrote operettas, including Apple Blossoms in 1919[8] and Sissy [de] in 1932, a string quartet, and cadenzas, including ones for Brahms's Violin Concerto, Paganini's D major Violin Concerto, and Beethoven's Violin Concerto. His cadenzas for the Beethoven concerto are the ones most often played by violinists today.He wrote the music for the 1936 movie The King Steps Out directed by Josef von Sternberg, based on the early years of Empress Elisabeth of Austria.Kreisler performed and recorded his own version of the first movement of Paganini's D major Violin Concerto. Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799) drew attention to himself even as a child due to his musical talent: At the age of seven he took violin lessons, only three years later he was hired as a violinist in Vienna and played little solos. His numerous compositions and particularly his 'singspiels' (song-plays) were very popular with the audience: Ditters von Dittersdorf's comedy 'Der Apotheker und der Doktor' even outdid Mozart's 'Le nozze di Figaro' in contemporary popularity in 1786. In 1766 Dittersdorf wrote the Violin Concerto in C major while being in service as leader of a music band in Großwardein, a post he had accepted in succession to Michael Haydn. The solo part was probably played by the composer himself at the first performance. The concerto is a work that is fun to play: A pleasant, particularly concertante Allegro moderato is followed by a playful cantabile Andante and a Presto as virtuoso finale.Das Violinkonzert C-Dur schrieb Dittersdorf im Jahre 1766 in seiner Zeit als Leiter der Musikkapelle in Großwardein, eine Stelle, die er in der Nachfolge von Michael Haydn angetreten hatte.
