Laura Chegwidden #3468130. Published by Laura Chegwidden (A0.812099). Handel wrote 3 suites of Water Music, of which the D major suite is the second. It contains the famous Alla Hornpipe in D, along with four other movements, including a Minuet, Lentement and Bourree, along with one unlabelled movement. It is a fantastic example of a Baroque Orchestra suite written by one of the Masters of Baroque Music and is ideal for events like weddings, school concerts or functions. It functions easily both as a concert piece and background music for events like wedding receptions.The arrangement goes for approx. 6 min not including repeats. This purchase includes a score and parts for all performers; violin 1, violin 2, and cello. It would work best for players of an intermediate to advanced level. It is set in the key of D major, which is the original key that the suite was written in.Laura Chegwidden is a pianist, cellist, double bassist and singer from Newcastle Australia. Edition based on Ms. D MÜu, ms. 775Score (20 pages) and Parts (friendly performance edition): Violino principale, Violin I, Violin II, Violin III, Viola, Violoncello and Harpsichord.The Violin Concerto in A major (TWV 51:A4), which has come to light only fairly recently, does not take as its musical model the song of the nightingale (as in ‘La Bizarre’ [TWV 55:G2]) or of the goldfinch (Vivaldi), but the croaking of the common frog, also called ‘Reling’ in certain regions of Germany, whence the concerto’s subtitle. Nothing better could be expected of a composer who found inspiration even in crows and in the out-of-tune playing of village musicians! Although this concerto, which the manuscript attributes to Telemann, bears traces of his personal style, other features, such as the exceptionally high solo part, leave room for doubt. At a structurally important point in the first movement the soloist produces no more than a succession of repeated notes, ‘a-a, a-a’, which infect the other parts as well. Of course, this is the vowel that the frog croaks, given a distinctive tone-colour by use of the open A string and stopped D string. But worse is to come. In the second ritornello the orchestral violins ‘forget’ the beginning of their theme, whilst the cello inappropriately pushes its way into the foreground. The setting of the second movement (Adagio), probably a moonlit stretch of shallow water, then audibly inspires a pair of courting frogs to make sweet music together. We are given the opportunity to rejoice in their croaking offspring in the concluding Menuet and its rapid Double. This movement entirely dispenses with concertante sounds of nature and thereby betrays its origins in the suite, where it always takes its accustomed place in Telemann’s music. If we knew that a satirist was at work in this ‘Relinge’ Concerto, someone who was deliberately exhibiting all these deviations from good taste, then we could infer with some certainty that the composer is indeed Telemann. Since his own concertos ‘smack of France’ (as he puts it in his autobiography of 1718), we may most likely credit him with permitting his not at all ‘sullen old heart’ a little joke at the expense of the relevant concertos of a certain Italian composer… – Peter Huth (trans. This Air from Handel's Water Music is notated for 8-note (one octave, C major diatonic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Included in this set of scores is a 2-page combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-page, 1-staff score for each instrument. This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. For beginning musicians, this same set of scores is available (sold separately) with color coded noteheads.Each instrument part uses all 8 notes: C D E F G A B C* where C* is one octave above middle C. The two parts are interchangeable. Though this sheet music is notated for Handbells and Boomwhackers®, this arrangement is playable by any 8-note, C major diatonic scale (one octave) instrument such as a xylophone or glockenspiel.The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. For more advanced players, each person could be assigned two notes for a total group size of 8 players. For beginners, it is best to assign one note to each person. At one note per person, a group of 16 players would be required. This was the only movement performed publicly during Saint-Saëns's lifetime, as he considered the rest of the suite too frivolous, or too silly, for his career as a serious composer. Understandably so, as it is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, depicting a swan gracefully paddling across the surface of the water, with a calm, gentle mood. Quite ironically, the piece is in G major, which has gained a completely different meaning in Internet culture.
