While setting this piece for Brass Quintet, I decided to use Euphonium instead of Trombone to allow for a more fluid sound. It was included on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and an orchestration featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Sting in 1973. This arrangement won an Oscar and reached No.3 on the US single charts. This version for Bassoon with Piano accompaniment has been arranged to best suit the key and pitch of the solo instrument and includes all four sections of the original composition.
