The parts are differentiated so they can be assigned to players based on your ensemble members' current playing skills. Lo-fi music aesthetics correspond to many of my favorite things about OSRS. It is filled with repetitive or meditative patterns, enjoyment can be experienced without perfection, there is ample opportunity for creative freedom, and there is far more depth to be discovered than the casual observer likely imagines is possible. The jams are meant to be fun for the performer and allow for creative freedom within the composition’s given restrictions. Imperfections are accepted. Prioritize enjoying your instrument and the music.Bankstanding is for flexible instrumentation but was composed with the solo alto saxophone in mind as the performing force. It may be performed on any instrument or instruments. Octave transposition to play in a comfortable range is encouraged. Repeats are performed as many times as desired by the performer. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, written by the Father of English Hymnody, Isaac Watts, in 1707 and later matched with Lowell Mason’s 1824 tune, HAMBURG, has long stood at the forefront of English hymnody.This arrangement, taken from my Passion Week cantata, Wounded, Bleeding, Still Proceeding, allows the full talent-spectrum of the Body of Christ to contemplate His sacrifice and offer their devotion.The first two stanzas feature an alto/soprano duet, set in a minor key with frequent diminished and augmented chords to reflect the despair and loss of a witness to the crucifixion. The entire third stanza, set for SATB chorus, never really moves off the F minor tonic until the end. That, and the relentless pounding of the bass line, ponders the witnesses anguish and our vicarious experience of it through Scripture. So, sing these stanzas sadly – they are sad! When the choir enters, be sure to observe the swelling crescendos/diminuendos as the sorrow and love mingle together.The fourth stanza offers optional congregational participation and may be used to provide a responsorial to the Word of God or a preparation for the Table. The choir sings this stanza in four part harmony as the congregation joins on the melody. It stays in a major key and closely follows the traditional consonances used in Lowell Mason’s harmonization; thus, the choral parts will feel familiar and the congregational melody will flow naturally. Take the text literally (Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.) and sing it firmly, enthusiastically, passionately, but never triumphantly. Sing it as a song of personal devotion to commit all that you have, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, to the one who humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross (Phil 2:8b) so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (2 Cor 5:21)The music is well within the grasp of any ensemble competent with traditional SATB anthems. The piano/organ accompaniments are straightforward yet very colorful. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross is an unapologetic Christian worship anthem suitable for sacred services, yet does not compromise on artistic expression.The parts provided in this version include a full score, a piano-vocal octavo (which may be performed alone), and organ and timpani/percussion parts. Neither organ or timpani are required but adding either or both provides a deep and rich experience. Parts for reduced orchestra (strings and single winds) are available separately.

The low register version is ideal for players with limited experience - it stays entirely in the low chalumeau register and doesn’t cross the break at all. The high register version (an octave higher) is mainly in the clarion register, but it does cross the break here and there, and requires a little more skill.The Guitar is tuned down to 6=D and has the 3:3:2 rhythm that gives this piece its real sense of fun. Although the music reaches the fifth position in places, it’s generally in first and second position to give access to a deeper bass-line. Note that the guitar part requires a Capo on fret 1, and the position markings are relative to the Capo. This is not really suitable for absolute beginners as it goes into 4 sharps, but with a little perseverance it should be playable by most well-practiced groups. The main tune stays in the 1st part throughout, but other tunes appear as we go through the repetitions (Row your Boat, Frere Jacques) to help keep your place. p>The piece opens with a single part (1) which is joined by other voices one at a time for each of the first four verses. Care will need to be taken to count the bars as the number of men increases. There's a lot of fun to be had from playing this piece. If you want to add some cuteness, the lyrics are provided so parts can be sung.

Each of the scales required for the improvisers is a melodic minor-derived scale, giving the whole piece an air of both openness, with the wide melodic intervals, and also a darker color, with those chords and scales in play. There are SampleSolos for the piano and 4th trumpet. Changes are included for an additional trombone solo, if desired, no sample provided. The main statement segues directly into a mixed soli that alternates tutti and mixed soli sections. Then, it's on to the blowing choruses, each with the background. No soloists will be required to play in the background, so everyone stays fresh. The melody returns, in a layered and stretto sort of way, with the final theme's second half returning to the altered voicings that are so characteristic the piece. Approx running time is one minute per chorus. Audio clip is just the piano solo, with backgrounds, so as to be able to hear those backgrounds clearly. Ranges are conservative, high and low. Rhythm section Uni-Part for bass, optional guitar, and even piano and drums if you wish, for simplicity's sake. All parts are two pages, rhythm section are three. MBB.
