Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). Par BRUCKNER ANTON. Anton Bruckner (b. 4.9.1824, Ansfelden, d. 11.10.1896, Vienna) didn’t have it easy. Throughout his life, the Austrian composer was plagued by self-doubt. Anton Bruckner came from a simple, rural background. After the death of his father, he was accepted as a choirboy at the monastery of Sankt Florian in 1837. After several years as a school assistant and his own organ and piano studies, he first worked as organist in St. Florian, then from 1855 as cathedral organist in Linz. Introduced to music theory and instrumentation by Simon Sechter and Otto Kitzler, he discovered Richard Wagner as an artistic role model, whom he admired throughout his life and also visited several times in Bayreuth. In 1868 Anton Bruckner became professor of basso continuo, counterpoint and organ at the Vienna Conservatory; ten years later court organist; and in 1891 finally honorary doctor of the University of Vienna. He was considered an important organ virtuoso of his era, but had to wait a long time for recognition as a composer. It was not until Symphony No.7 in E major, composed between 1881 and 1883, with the famous Adagio written under the effects of Wagner's death, that he achieved the recognition he had hoped for, even if he was reluctant to accept it given his inclination towards scepticism and self-criticism. Anton Bruckner was a loner who did not want to follow a particular school or doctrine. He composed numerous sacred vocal works, such as his three masses, the Missa Solemnis in B flat minor (1854), the Te Deum (1881-84) and numerous motets. As a symphonic composer, he wrote a total of nine symphonies and many symphonic studies from 1863 onwards, tending to revise completed versions several times over. Bruckner's orchestral works were long considered unplayable, but in fact were merely exceptionally bold for the tonal language of their time, uniting traditions from Beethoven through Wagner to folk music, on the threshold between late Romanticism and Modernism. Anton Bruckner composed about 40 motets during his lifetime, the earliest a setting of Pange lingua around 1835, and the last, Vexilla regis, in 1892. Thomas Doss has compiled some of these motets in this volume for symphonic wind orchestra. These motets show many characteristics of personal expression, especially Bruckner's colourful harmony in the earlier works, which is in places aligned with Franz Schubert (changes between major and minor; and movements in thirds). Later works are characterised by many components which, in addition to the expanded stature of the movements, include above all a sense of the instrumentation as an outward phenomenon and the harmony as a compositional feature that works more internally. Some aspects of Bruckner's work are the result of his long period of study, which familiarised him not only with the tradition of his craft, but also gave him insights into the 'modernity' of his time in such composers as Wagner, Liszt and Berlioz. From this developed his personal standpoint, which always pursues the connection between the old and the new. / Date parution : 2023-07-31/ Répertoire / Concert Band/Harmonie

Prayer to the Power of Love. Par BORTNIANSKY DMITRY STEPANOVYCH. The Ukrainian Dmitri Bortniansky (1751-1825) received lessons at the local singing school in his hometown of Hlukhiv, and soon his extraordinary talent was recognised. He was somewhat of a child prodigy, writing his first opera at a young age. Following his studies Bortniansky was appointed court composer and Kapellmeister of the Imperial Chapel Choir. In the period that followed, he wrote - in addition to a number of operas, instrumental works, and a cycle of songs - more than a hundred religious works for a cappella choir, in which he combined Russian-orthodox and Ukrainian traditions with late 18th century European music. The appealing melody of Ich bete an die Macht derLiebe (Prayer to the Power of Love) became well-known, especially in Germany, in combination with German text by Gerhard Tersteegen. This arrangement by Michael Bilkes reflects the atmosphere of the original work very well. / Niveau : 2 / Hymnes et chorals / Répertoire / Concert Band ou Harmonie

Par SNEDECOR PHIL. Many years ago, on a suggestion from Marine Band tubist John Cradler, I wrote a quirky collection of tunes set in the lower register of the tuba That book, published in 1991, 'mimics to be popular beyond my wildest dreams with players of all age levels and ability. Its success exposed a void in studies with actual music in the extreme lower part of the tuba range, a part of the instrument that is so important in the music of Prokofiev, Wagner and other composers. The ability to read notes (on sight!) of 4 and 5 ledger lines had only been previously addressed with repetitive exercises and academic method books. The embarrassing gap between that first volume and today's long-awaited and requested second book is only the fault of yours truly, who until recently didn't think there was a sincere desire for a second book. When I did decide to start writing, I was conflicted over which direction to go: Low Vol. 2? Low(er!) Etudes? Higher Lyrical? Orchestral Excerpt-Based Etudes? Duets? I finally decided on this combination of Lou/(er!) Etudes with accompanying duets that give the player a break from the ultra low writing, and provide a chance to revisit the well-loved tunes of the first book with fresh harmonies. I hope you enjoy what I've finally come up with and accept my apologies for taking so long to do it! My sincere thanks to tubists everywhere for making these tunes part of your music-making over the years. This long-awaited Low(er!) Etudes for Tuba includes more of the melodies Phil Snedecor is known for composing. Always harmonically fresh and melodically surprising, these tunes pose challenges beyond the ultra low notes and offer new discoveries upon each reading. Also included are companion duets to the original Low Etudes for Tuba. A great book to keep on the music stand in your studio! / Niveau : 4 / Etudes et exercices / Etude / Trompette

9790365070909. Nico
Schoeters took his first
percussion lessons with
Eric Buyle in the Academy
for Music and Word in
Boom, near Antwerp, after
getting the hang of it
through private lessons
by Jozef Vervliet.
Afterwards he continued
his music studies at the
Royal Conservatory of
Antwerp, where he was
taught by Leo Ouderits,
Carlo Willems and Koen
Wilmaers. In 1998 he
graduated there with
great distinction as
Master in percussion.
After cooperating on
various projects in
Belgium and abroad as a
freelance percussionist,
Nico took up a position
as a percussionist in the
National Orchestra of
Belgium. However, despite
of all his achievements
as a percussionist, Nico
Schoeters didn’t
take his first musical
steps by playing
percussion, but by
playing the piano. His
love for the piano
remained a common thread
in his musical career.
For example, he played
numerous gigs as a
pianist with his jazz
quartet ‘Just
Friends, consisting of a
number of top musicians
who are his friends. In
addition he started
composing piano works in
2012. Cosmopolydian is my
first composition for
symphonic windband. It's
a solo piece for flute
and vibraphone which is
dedicated to Inge Smedts,
principal piccolo at the
Royal Wind Band of the
Belgian Guides. It is
written in the context of
a musical project
‘Cocktail Maison'.
This project includes a
concert on May 25th, 2017
in De Singel in Antwerp
where this work will be
premiered, a CD recording
and a concert tour. All
the pieces for this
project are new
compositions by Piet
Swerts, Jef Neve, Klaas
Coulembier, Etienne
Houben, Bart Watté,
Jan Huylebroeck, Francois
Glorieux and myself. All
the compositions are
inspired by a cocktail.
My choice is the
Cosmopolitan, but the
non-alcoholic version,
the mocktail actually.
The title Cosmopolydian
is a nod to the lydian
scale which I used as a
base for the majority of
the piece. The idea
behind the music is an
image of children
enjoying themselves,
worry-free, during the
holidays. Tired but
satisfied, they go to
sleep and have wonderful
dreams. The next day they
wake up to start a
beautiful new day.The
work is constructed in a
typical ABA form. A quick
first part:
‘sparkling
allegro', which of course
should sound very light
and playful. A slow
middle part warm adagio,
in which the beautiful
dreams become audible.
The last part is a
re-exposition of the
first part in which
eventually all the themes
merge into the final. $134.00 - Voir plus => AcheterDélais: 1 to 2 weeks | | |

Carl
Hauptmann
Wordsworth 'introduced' a
new type of poetry, based
on the speech of the
common man. This was his
answer to the poetry of
the classicism which was
bound by rigid rules. His
definition of poetry was:
the spontaneous overflow
of powerful feelings from

In het laatste vak

the dreaming country
sleeps. By the path
the shadow black and hogh
of a beach. a wisp of
a white smoke creeps to
the dark'ning sky.
Where the valley is the
darkest hued countless
little lights shine
silently. O my
soul! Drink of
solitude!
Carl
Hauptmann
Wordsworth 'introduced' a
new type of poetry, based
on the speech of the
common man. This was his
answer to the poetry of
the classicism which was
bound by rigid rules. His
definition of poetry was:
the spontaneous overflow
of powerful feelings from
emotions recollected in
tranquility.
My
heart leaps up when I
behold a rainbow in the
sky
My heart
leaps up when I behold A
rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life
began. So is it now I
am a man. So be it
when I shall grow
old, Or let me
die! The Child is
father of the Man.
And I could wish my days
to be Bound each to each
by natural
piety.
William
Wordsworth
In a
truly poetic manner
Harrie Janssen has
transformed the
contemplative thoughts of
the poets into two
compositions for Concert
Band.
Two
Symphonic Interludes is
gebaseerd op gedichten
van de Duitse dichter
Carl Hauptmann (laat
Romantiek) en de Engelse
dichter William
Wordsworth (vroeg
Romantiek).
Carl
Hauptmann had als kind
een zeer zwakke
gezondheidmaar was zeer
intelligent. Hij
studeerde Filosofie,
Psychologie en Biologie.
In het laatste vak
promoveerde hij. Het
huwelijk zorgde voor
financiele
onafhankelijkheid zodat
hij zich kon richten op
zijn verdere studie.
Hauptmannschreef enkele
romans, toneelstukken,
poëzie en
wetenschappelijke
werken.
NIGHT -
Carl Hauptmann
Twilight floats above the
valley's night mists
are hanging, there's
a whispering brook.
Now thecovering veil is
lifting quite: come
and look! See the
magic land before our
gaze: tall as dreams
the silver mountains
stand, crossed by
silent silver paths
shining from a secret
land. Noble, pure,
thedreaming country
sleeps. By the path
the shadow black and hogh
of a beech. a wisp of
a white smoke creeps to
the dark'ning sky.
Where the valley is the
darkest hued countless
little lights shine
silently. O
mysoul! Drink of
solitude!
Wordsworth
'introduceerde' een nieuw
soort poëzie,
gebaseerd op de taal van
de gewone man. Het was
een reactie op de aan
strenge regels gebonden
poëzie van het
Classicisme. Zijn
definitievan poëzie
luidde: 'the spontaneous
overflow of powerful
feelings from emotions
recollected in
tranquility'.
