Florent Schmitt was born in Blamont, Meurthe et Moselle (France) on September 28th, 1870. He composed in every musical form with the exception of opera. From 1929 to 1939 he also worked as music critic for Le Temps, though not without controversy, as he was given to shouting out his opinions from his seat in the hall during the performance (the music publisher Heugel, in fact, referred to him as "an irresponsible lunatic"). Florent Schmitt died in Neuilly-sur-Seine, on August 17th, 1958.
