Added by rkmyers, 14 Aug 2012 This is a powerful arrangement when you tell the story behind the songs. It was at the height of the American Civil War that Longfellow penned the words to ?I Heard the Bells of Christmas Day.? The third verse captured the contrast between the message of ?peace on earth? and the violence of the war. To some it appeared that God was dead, or at least uninterested in the affairs of men. But the fourth verse puts it in perspective. God is not dead. He is not uninterested. God has a plan and a purpose and ?the wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will toward men.? However, for peace on earth to become a reality mankind must first be in a right relationship with God. That is the whole reason for the First Noel or the first Christmas. It marked the arrival of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who came to proclaim the Truth and to make atonement for mankind?s sin against God. Your feedback is always welcome.
