Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750) was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist of the Baroque period. He enriched many established German styles through his skill in counterpoint, harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms, and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France. "Ach Gott, vom Himmel sieh darein" (Oh God, look down from heaven), BWV 2, is a church cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach. He composed the chorale cantata in Leipzig for the second Sunday after Trinity and first performed it on 18 June 1724. It is the second chorale cantata from his second annual cycle, of chorale cantatas, based on Martin Luther's hymn Ach Gott, vom Himmel sieh darein, published in 1524 in the first Lutheran hymnal. "Durchs Feuer wird das Silber rein" (Through fire, silver is purified) is a Tenor Aria (Mvt. 5) for Tenor, Strings & Continuo. Although this piece was originally created for Voice (SATTB) and period instruments, I created this unusual arrangement for Tuba & Strings(Violins (2), Viola & Cello) at the request of a listener.
